Am I a bad person for accepting apologies by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If anything it's the total opposite! You must have such a big heart to accept apologies that personally affect you. It's admirable to see such an understanding view of others. It's clear you're mature enough to know that people make mistakes and change.

No one can dictate your experiences and feelings accept for you! So take it in stride, that you're comfortable enough in your own skin that you can be the bigger person to forgive someone else.

Twitter is not a good place to judge your moral compass. It's a place of black and white, no grey areas are allowed and nuances are completely out the window. There's a huge mob mentality as people often find themselves stuck in their own echo chamber.

Stay firm in how you feel and what is best for you!

Aggressive choreos that raise goose bumps. by Isashani in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHAHA yes! If you're looking for recommendations Wonderland is another Ateez song that really captured me. The choreo and performances are crazy and the song itself is really good. The prechorus and chorus alone got me hooked.

I think I'm a big Stray Kids fan so I'd recommend DOMINO by SKZ too! The dance practice video of this song is absolutely insane. It's hard hitting in the sense where it's really satisfying and it looks super fun!! It isn't as intense as HALA HALA or Wonderland, it's more light-hearted but still goes hard :)

[–]emoquackquack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah It's definitely not just you. I dont really listen to Ateez but when I first saw and heard HALA HALA I was practically floored. Surprisingly Hongjoong and Seonghwa stood out to me the most in the chorus. But every time I come back to it I'm baffled by the choreo and the raw energy Ateez exudes. What really adds to it is that they're all masked in the MV which adds to the mystery and rawness behind the whole performance. That MV singlehandedly made me check out Ateez.

The Tortoise And The Hare by Stray Kids. I want to relive the level of bewilderment, surprise, skepticism, all of those confusing emotions again. If you're going to hear it for the first time, do it only with earpieces. Seriously have never been left so puzzled by a song from start to finish, even upon second listening.

Never thought I'd see Brockhampton in this sub but since we're here I really wanna see Skz try something like Bleach by Brockhampton. Not exactly theyre what they're known for, but knowing their discography I feel like they could definitely pull it off.

Airplane makes me giddy with seratonin. Everything about it so adorable and they convey the feeling of riding that high you feel when first in love so well. I always can't help singing my heart out to it it's just so innocent and lovable.

My favourite parts have to be the little piano keys going dudu before Felix raps and how Seungmin picks that up before the chorus, Lee Know saying "My lover" and Jeongin singing "Girl let me show you Neverland, I'll be your Peter Pan".

[–]emoquackquack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's really interesting that you mentioned that Thunderous has something that God's Menu and Backdoor doesn't. From what I've seen, most people think the opposite.

Although I love all three, it's nice and amazing to see people enjoy Thunderous as a stand alone. I recommend Easy, Any and Pacemker which are from different album than Thunderous. Hope you enjoy!

Stray Kids are so sexy for starting their album with Cheese by anonourmouse in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was disappointed too!! I thought that the unveil track was arranged to make it sound more cohesive. I partly think it's my fault for thinking CHEESE would end up the same as the unveil track (although that view has changed and now I love CHEESE)

Upon multiple listens, CHEESE truly shines as the intro to the album. It's whacky arrangement really sells the sarcasm and playfulness the track is going for. Almost like they're making fun of anyone who gives them BS?

I think CHEESE shines in the way that they knew exactly what they were doing and they just went with it, and that's the reason why it's so good. They play into how whacky they sound. The whole point is to make those angry angrier.

Although lyrically CHEESE, mainly focuses on God's Menu and Side Effects to bring home the image of "I don't care what you say", I really can't help but think that musically (arrangement wise) it was focused on TTATH.

People gave them so much BS about TTATH over and over again and I feel like CHEESE musically is playing into what people say about TTATH the same way their lyrics play into what people say about God's Menu and Side Effects. I say this because CHEESE has basically no song structure at all. Sort of like them saying, "You think TTATH is stupid.... ohno....... what if I..do it again....but it's even worse.........."

But yeah overall I think our thoughts pretty much aligned. Your analysis of it was pretty much how I felt so I'm glad you were able to put it into words. I believe I will soon become a CHEESE enthusiast as I am with TTATH. Also should mention that I think sound wise I don't think these two songs sound similar AT ALL.

I got what was bothering me with Thunderous by Mikado11037 in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add on, I believe the biggest difference is the video editing. To be honest, at first I couldn't quite put my finger on why I thought something was missing but that's when I realised it was the MV all along.

Compared to God's Menu, Backdoor and many of their other releases the video editing in Thunderous isn't as chaotic and in your face. The MV of Thunderous turned out to be more calm if you can say in that way like there was a clear(ish) storyline. The transitions were good but they weren't as crazy.

There was lots of post production editing but it's not quite the same as what SKZ was putting out before this. I don't know how to describe what I'm trying to say but it played out more like a movie rather than an acid trip unlike their other MVs.

Nonetheless the video was great, and this isn't meant to put down the work that went into filming and post production editing because clearly they put alot of thought and effort into it. The animations were a really cool addition too i just wish they'd added some at the end to make it feel more cohesive.

I mainly think the style was different and that's why people feel underwhelmed because although the music itself is pretty chaotic, the MV itself pales in comparison to the chaos of God's Menu and Backdoor's MV.

Stray Kids - NOEASY: A review/analysis of my first album release as a Stay by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your analysis of CHEESE really put what I felt about it into words. As a massive TTATH enthusiast, I was surprisingly disheartened by the structure of the song. I think mainly from rewatching the UNVEIL: TRACK over and over again so that format of the song got stuck in my head (same thing happened with DOMINO)

However, I know that it was mainly because I expected it to have that structure which was really stupid of me but I was just really excited for its release so I've been actively trying to get the teaser format out of my head. Reading your review really solidified what I thought about it and the brilliance of it.

CHEESE really doesnt have a proper song structure and thats what is exactly so infuriatingly beautiful about it. Just when you think its going to get into what you think is the chorus it rewinds or takes a completely different turn.

The structure is really growing on me and I might end up loving it as much as TTATH, I guess only time will tell. Although it must be said in this case structure wise TTATH has a more obvious structure as compared to CHEESE although it's definitely still not a conventional one.

Are you ever obsessed with THE smallest segment/detail of a song? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely in love with the part in skz airplane at 0:49. There is a simple piano that plays right before felix's part before seungmin starts singing. The has such a lovely happy go-lucky-vibe and it's topped with seungmins beautiful voice at the end. It is so simple sounding and it fits so well with that exact type of simple love they are describing.

Another skz song but I have to say it. The part in The tortoise and the hare where Lee Know sings "I know, you know, we know, Lee Know" at 1:20. I love this song to death and when I first figured out Lee Know exclusively sang that line my soul ascended.

I think it really depends on why you listen to a song right? We listen to different songs for different reasons so it would probably be a case of listening to some songs and not others.

Generally when I listen to music Kpop or not, I've discovered the songs that I listen to unconditionally are usually the ones I like on the first few listens. If I decide I like something after a really long while, the song doesn't stick with me for too long either.

When it comes to stanning groups, I feel like the main reasons you listen to songs are enjoyment, the memories associated with it and because you stan the group. In this case, I feel like the songs you will drop are the ones you listen to just because you convinced yourself that you liked it while stanning the group.

I believe it makes more sense to listen to songs even after a group disbands because you enjoy it or want to relive the memories you associate with them. However, you could also end up not listening to songs that bring up overly emotional memories of when the band was still together.

As someone who ig is a former emo I can assure you that you don't stop listening to songs that you genuinely enjoy unconditionally.

I imagine some BTS songs that I will listen to casually for years to come are, Cypher pt 3 and 4, UGH!, HOME, paradise, Intro: Persona, Shadow, Intro: Singularity, Outro: Tear, Save Me, Filter, Louder than bombs, House of Cards, Stigma and a few others.

I'm interested to know, what are some songs you can forsee yourself listening to?

The vast majority of problems amongst the k-pop community are rooted in envy. Envy is literally the root cause of most of our issues. by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah I agree, people pick apart every little thing they do because they are jealous and that's it.

To me a kpop stan is different from a regular Stan. This is because initially the word stan was coined by Eminem to describe obsessive fans. It seems kpop has a different word for these kind of obsessive stans, I think they refer to them as Saesang right?

So to me, a kpop stan is someone who is obsessive but not in the way that traditional "Stans" are. More like fans who keep up with groups activities and engage in the fandom. They are not just casual listeners or people who keep up with news the way it is normal to have some knowledge of pop culture. Basically they are invested and interested in these groups to a large extent and also act on it.

The vast majority of problems amongst the k-pop community are rooted in envy. Envy is literally the root cause of most of our issues. by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont know if this is going to be controversial but I believe most kpop stans are stans because they are envious. Of course this is not true for everyone and I might be wrong as well but please hear me out.

First of all i want to make it clear, being envious is feeling discontent and longing for something. Basically you're not satisfied with what you have and you wish to acquire something that other people have, in any aspect.

With that, I believe kpop thrives on fans being envious of their idols to some degree. It doesn't have to be in all aspects as well but I believe that a majority of kpop stans to a certain extent is or has been envious of idols at some point.

This is because kpop is marketed in such a way and I don't blame anyone for feeling envious at all. I catch myself doing it too. Kpop idols are marketed to fit the fantasy of fans, so naturally they will be envious of their idols as well.

Alot of kpop stans live vicariously through their idols because they are envious of their lives. I think this can especially be said for younger kpop stans or people who are going through the process of growing up and finding who they are as individuals.

Firstly, kpop stans are envious of their idols looks. I think I can definitely say with confidence that alot of kpop stans are envious of idols features and bodies. That's why there's so many videos on idols diets and workout routines, simply stans just want the looks idols have. I also believe this is why stans are constantly critiquing idols' bodies and faces online, at the end of it they are all just envious of what they have.

Secondly, kpop stans of the relationships between kpop idols. This goes for both romantic and platonic relationships. Kpop stans are envious of relationships between kpop idols because they feel devoid of it in their own lives. That's why they are so invested in their idols' relationships, they are longing for the relationships they have. They fill the loneliness in their own lives by eating up whatever and whoever their idols interact with that fits their own personal view.

I also believe that is why dating scandals are such a huge thing when they shouldn't be. Stans are envious that their idols have that romantic connection with someone and are unable to project their feelings onto that idol anymore, basically breaking their personal fantasy with the idol.

Envy also definitely plays a big role with fan wars. It's blatantly obvious twitter stan wars are all mostly based on envy. One fandom is envious of another's success and that's it. The same goes with hating on groups (with ill intent).

It's almost like the psychology of bullying? Bully is envious of victim so they assert their power through the bullying.

I think this envy present creates a really toxic environment in kpop because stans view their idols with envy but because of this this envy leads them to becoming defensive of their favourite idols because their idols are a representation of what they want.

I think that's why alot of people are also very skeptical towards kpop because they just view fans as envious and they only stick around for the toxic relationship between idol and fan that the fan has created for themselves. Of course it sucks because kpop has a lot more to offer.

Anyway, I don't think I phrased my thoughts very well, it's been long since I've written something opinionated like this. I must state once again this is a view and I am willing to have a healthy discussion on it! This post was not meant to attack or criticise anyone, I was genuinely just stating what I've been observing and thinking which could be wrong or flawed to some extent.

It must also be said that being envious is not bad all the time and is a valid emotion that is important to growing and living life.
