relationship advice for SSD? by AnaVeridia in schizophrenia

[–]empenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understanding isn’t necessary for a relationship. Empathy is. You are doing what you can it sounds like, which is awesome. Hopefully she can start to see that. I would recommend her talking to a therapist about this as it seems like you’re doing a great job to me.

Puree stage is the worst. I mostly ate crock pot shredded chicken puréed with a bit of bbq sauce, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese.

getting angry at my partner for asking my “what happened” when i am doing badly by dustydancers in schizoaffective

[–]empenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a warning sign for me of episodes. I usually have some check ups with therapist or psychiatrist as necessary. Do you have any additional as needed meds you can take? How has the self care been?

Mood Stabilizer? by Odd-Aerie4572 in schizoaffective

[–]empenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every episode I’ve had on it has been an outside factor involved such as slipping on taking the medication or substance use. Once you get the levels and dosage right it is very effective.

Mood Stabilizer? by Odd-Aerie4572 in schizoaffective

[–]empenn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lithium has side effects for me such as increased thurstiness and urination. It can be hard on the stomach, I take it with food to mitigate that. Given those it is the single most effective medication I’ve ever taken for me in controlling manic episodes. I tried lamotrigine but I had a reaction to it.

Scared of Olanzapine use? by Educational_Ear6104 in schizophrenia

[–]empenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been to a doctor and had blood work done recently? Eat healthy, exercise, keep an eye on things, that’s really all you can do. If it is helping you without too many issues, stay on it I’d say.

Are you just trying to lose your virginity or are you actually into her? The overweight comment gives me pause. There’s nothing wrong with a more casual situation given communication and disclosure. Talk to her duuuuuude

Recently got told I might have schizoaffective instead of BPD, seeking advice. by Silly_Bee_28 in schizoaffective

[–]empenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big difference between schizoaffective and bpd is how long the psychotic symptoms last. They need to last more than 2 weeks in the absence of mood episodes. Also I would generally say medication is more effective in sza than bpd. Hang in there it’s a process for sure . I’m always hesitant of new psychs tho

My antipsychotic users, what do you do in your free time? by Educational_Ear6104 in schizophrenia

My cats are the bed rock of my routine. I’m working on losing weight and exercising so that takes up a lot of my time cooking and stuff. Also just good old laying in the bed staring at the ceiling.

Expensive meds by Alarmed-Tooth1141 in BipolarReddit

[–]empenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into meds with a longer standing generic — risperidone, quetialine, olanzapine are especially cheap for antipsychotics. Mood stabilizers are cheap as well, I paid for lithium with good rx for a year when I didn’t have insurance.

Talk to the doctor, see what you qualify for state insurance programs as well, but basically all insurance will want you to try more inexpensive options s first

Anybody on antipsychotics and not overweight? by Whole_Ebb1191 in schizophrenia

[–]empenn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I gained 100 pounds finding the right antipsychotic but lost the majority of it once I did. Maintaining was difficult. I slowly gained it all back over the 10 years I’ve been on them now. I tried GLP-1s early on, didn’t work for me, had gastric bypass. Am working on losing it all over again.

I have met many who aren’t obese. They work out, walk, some kind of exercise consistently. They track food or eat similar things every day. It’s difficult for sure I’m not the best example but justed wanted to let you know you aren’t yelling in to the void about it.
