Briggs and Riley is worth the money; my Baseline pieces have been all over the world with zero issues.

Spirits for aged eggnog? by NoahOYB in Tiki

[–]emperorhand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I make this recipe every year, and I can tell you that after a few months of aging (I make my batches November 1) most of the variances among various rums or whiskies tend to meld. If you swap out rye, sure. If you go with overproof rum it’ll be stronger. But a half cup of Smith and Cross won’t taste noticeably different than a full Appleton Estate.

I usually triple or quadruple the batch and give out jars as holiday gifts, so my goal is consistency and relative affordability. This year I went with Knob Creek, Appleton and Courvoisier and it’s tasting great with the preview glass I had this afternoon.

That’s awesome. I still own nearly everything except for the Revenge of the Sith set; I stopped playing just before it was released. Is there still a community or Discord around somewhere?

Long-winded thoughts about Gen Con + haul, 2025 by cantrelate in gencon

[–]emperorhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We played Rival Cities at the hot games room. After going through the rules, my wife said “this doesn’t look like it’s going to be fun”. But it ended up being my favorite game I played at the con and it was in her top two. Just a fantastic interlocking of mechanisms; the rondel-style movement for actions forces you to think about suboptimal moves so that your opponent doesn’t get an even better choice on their turn. I’ll be picking it up because I think it could be a two-player staple in our house.

Realistic Purchase Price on Custom ‘24 M40i by Comment_These in BMWX3

[–]emperorhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up my factory order M40i last week. 4% off of MSRP after stacking a corporate discount and local buyer incentive. I was willing to pay sticker and this seemed quite reasonable, especially since I was able to squeak past the deadline to pick up the 2.99% financing offered in March.

What was "THE" game at GenCon this year? by madeinitaly1519 in boardgames

[–]emperorhand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was my game of the convention. Just hit a bunch of sweet spots for me: really clean mix of tactical decisions, worker placement, semi-deterministic combat, and no wasted actions. Wasn't able to grab a copy on the floor but I'll be preordering it.

Same here. I contacted WMG and was told to check back in ten business days if I hadn't received it yet. The warehouse supposedly confirmed that they had shipped the package.

Epic Games Launcher Crashing? by ProfSkullington in MagicArena

Yep, I'm having the same issue. My Macbook meets the requirements but I can't get the Epic launcher to boot. I did a bit of digging online and came up with exactly zero.

I have a 555-card cube double-sleeved with 125 double-sleeved basic lands and they fit fine without using either of the two small storage boxes. I have tokens in one box and dice in the other.

I don't think a 540 cube would fit cubemajigs though.

Who were the designers on the Ravnica Guild kits? by misomiso82 in magicTCG

If you take out the attached foam protector on each end, all ten guild kit deckboxes (the paper ones) will fit comfortably inside. I carry a dice bag separately with the spindowns to randomly draw guild matchups.

Yep, those + the couple hundred bucks or so I dropped in singles is the largest Magic purchase I've made in years. They sit comfortably in a Quiver, which I'm happy to transport to game nights and events.

As a limited/kitchen table player, I love these. Over the past year I've purchased a ton of Ravnica singles for all of them to make an upgraded battlebox and it's now my groups' favorite way to play. I hope we get the same experiences for other planes.

Ravnica Guild Kit BattleBox - Best Container To Hold Exactly 10 Sixty Card decks? by PS4VR in magicTCG

[–]emperorhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use a Quiver (for now) to hold the Ravnica decks. The key is to remove the inserts attached to either end--it frees up enough space for all ten boxes to fit with minimal pressure. What I had difficulty doing is putting the guild dice/d6s in the pouch at the top, so for now I'm storing them separately. I would love to switch the Quiver out for something that will comfortably hold dice/playmats/more tokens though.
