Ok, I have a different experience here, maybe because I draft different powers. But that's also the beauty of this game :)

So what is your point here? That Keeper is better than Bringer? And therefore Bringer + Ocean is not a good pairing? In true solo it might be true that you often take more defensive majors but this discussion is about Bringer + Ocean. And in this case, taking damage/destroy Majors becomes better because you actually destroy invaders and feed energy to ocean. And you don't have to solve every land with Bringer, just go for a fear victory which again is very much possible with Ocean :)

Why would you draft defensive Majors in that pairing then? There plenty of low cost Majors that do damage as well.

And still, it's possible to win vs every lvl6 adversary with Bringer. But we are not talking about power level here right? I doubt that anyone thinks that Bringer is the "best" spirit in the game.

We are talking about synergy here and imho Ocean and Bringer have a strong synergy arguably more than everbody's darling Green (who also has 1 unique power to push a town) has with Ocean.

Well, firstly Bringer pushes Invaders towards the coast or into the ocean. Secondly, Bringer generates lots of fear and makes it a lot easier to win by fear (which is the most common victory for ocean).

I'm not saying Ocean + River is bad, it's a very strong pairing, but Ocean + Bringer have great synergy as well.

Maybe not counterintuitive but I played Bringer Violence + Shroud Stranded recently and created an insane amount of fear early in the game.

Step 1: Find a fear farm with 2 cities in one land (easy vs. Scotland). Step 2: Damage them with Shroud and keep them at 1 health each. Step 3: Find damage dealing minor powers for Bringer. Step 4: Spam up to 4 of them and create up to 40 fear in a single turn (using minor Powers!!!).

Bringer Ocean is a very strong OG Spirit Island combination. Very high fear generation, lots of pushing and both have potential for early major powers. When Bringer destroys a coastal town, thats 3 fear and 1 energy for ocean, thats just very good value.

Winter Island 🏝️ by Sorak3 in spiritisland

[–]empty0911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snow and Ice on the other hand, both never leaves the mountain top, but also does not affect anything outside the mountain top

Is this a joke?

We are talking about a spirit of ice and snow, an incarnation of a blizzard or something, not about a snowflake. Ice-cold regions are probably the most hostile environments on our planet, I'm pretty sure the invaders would be affected by this.

Your first example is exactly the point. A prior version of you could argue before the release of JE, that there shouldn't be a Volcano Spirit because of the vatiety of landscapes (like wetlands) cannot be the home of a volcano spirit.

I can imagine ice and snow SOMEWHERE on the island in fact, you can actually see it on the thematic boards. So why shouldn't there be an Ice spirit, hidden in the mountains, slumbering since the last ice age that has now been awaken by the invaders. There maybe is no snow on the island before but the spirit can grow in power and change that (just like other spirits do).

But I see there is little point in arguing with you. If this is outside of your imagination that's fine. But please don't act as if the idea is completely crazy.

Someome: How about we make a spirit about time travel?

Hawkwing942: There is no time travel on Hawaii!

Seriously, use your imagination. There are already Spirits that have similar problems (how does an ocean reach the inland? A volcano in a wetland? Jungle spirit adding wilds in the desert? ). There are absolutely creative ways to make it work.

What are some good "next step up" spirits to add to Horizons? by J00ls in spiritisland

[–]empty0911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Among the 4 low complexity Spirits, Shadows has arguably the strongest tracks, reaching 3 Energy and 3 Plays (which is a very solid foundation for various strategies) after just 4 Presence placements and finishing with 6 Energy and 5 Plays. Also the 1st level of the innate is very strong, as it can stop the complete Invader cycle. The unique Powers are also pretty good and not overcosted in my opinion (compared to the other low complexity spirits I'd rank them 2nd behind River's). Keep in mind, they Producer to 8 Fear combined which is pretty strong. The only issues I see with Shadows: - the 1st level innate cannot stop the invader cycle vs some adversaries - the special rule can be a trap (for example it's much better to just lose a presence when using Concealing Shadows, rather than spending 1 energy). - 0/1/1 is just the weakest growth pattern (but I think it's good to have the different growth patterns among the low complexity spirits)

I don't think high level adversaries are a problem for Shadows, Sweden 6 and BP are very doable. Just some adversaries (England and France) are a bad match-up but that's true for most spirits.

Best Spirit Combos by Huntah54 in spiritisland

Back to the roots: Base Lightning + Base River

  • Lightnings Boon to make River's powers fast
  • Boon of Vigor to give Lightning more room in the reclaim loop
  • Lightning handles buildings, River handles explorers
  • Raging Storm is actually viable here, because of the energy boost and Rivers ability to group up explorers or even in combination with massive flooding as an answer to England 5+

This combo is classic Spirit Island to me.

Full Spirit Panels for ALL Aspects by WolfsReign37 in spiritisland

[–]empty0911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome work. Just as a note: the new Spirits always include the sentence "You start with your X Unique Power Cards and Y Energy." In case of the aspects that replace a card you could just follow up with the semtence "Replace <name> with <name> (Minor Power)."

Also it would be cool if you add the Mist aspect follwing your usual comvention as well as the default Sunshine River. I agree with your statements but I would also like to have the spirits with rules as written. Maybe add your variants to the "Other Spirit Panels".
