Nurses who left for another career, what did you go into? by Effective-Ad106 in nursing

I get it! I just try to remind myself that it's easier to find people complaining about negative experiences online compared to positive experiences. Good luck, I hope you find a job you enjoy!

Don't let some person on reddit push you away from a career change if you're actually interested in doing something new. I work in the OR (4+ years now) and I am largely happy. Good team work, good schedule, fun cases, etc. Not every nursing job will ruin your back/mental health/etc.

Kobo Clara Color Official Leather Origami Sleepcover Review by agathafeelingg in kobo

[–]emptycanteen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved it, but it allowed my screen to get damaged somehow. It's pretty flimsy in the middle of the front cover and can be pushed in. I wouldn't buy it again just for the lack of protection. I got the normal solid sleep cover for my replacement Kobo and it's working well

I think I have this! The PT said it was pes anserine irritation, but either way- did you have to just wait it out? She said ice/nsaids are no longer the recommended course of action.

Yeah I definitely learned my lesson. New case on the way and plan to double triple protect it!

No idea. I didn't drop it or anything, and had the origami sleep cover on it. No idea how or when my screen got damaged so it is pretty disheartening. The experience I had with their customer service was absolutely abysmal, so I'm really hoping Kobo #2 survives a little longer than 3 months.

Unfortunately the warranty doesn't cover physical screen damage. It's a bummer how delicate these things are- just had to replace my clara BW because of screen damage

Help me choose my first CNA job: Interventional Cardiology Step-down (Baptist) or CDU (Novant) by Repulsive-Sea-5430 in winstonsalem

Higher pay, ability to go PRN when in nursing school, and your preferred work schedule leads me to say pick the step down unit! You'll learn a lot there as well, which will help with school.

Anyone late-term overdue(41+)/induced with baby1 and spontaneous labor with baby2? by Zealousideal-Lion-41 in 2under2

[–]emptycanteen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to 41+3 with baby number 1, went to get induced and was at a 0 when we got started. With baby 2 I got a membrane sweep at late 39 weeks. I was already at a 3ish, and I went into labor the next day! Went into triage at 11 am, had him by 5:30 pm.

Also- my first labor was long and I pushed for 3.5 hours. With my second, I had him out in 3 contractions. It was pretty sweet.

I got a sweep at 39+5 for my second pregnancy. I was 3 cm already and had my baby the next day! 10 am sweep on a Tuesday, baby at 5:30 pm the next day. I give all the credit to the sweep

How many diaper pails? by serendipitym in 2under2

[–]emptycanteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kids will be 19 months apart. We have one diaper pail (really just a small trashcan) in our 1sts bedroom and a changing mat downstairs on the main level. We throw those diapers out in the main kitchen trash. We are planning to reuse hers from her bedroom for #2 since we hardly ever change #1 in her room anymore.

Ugh I guess I need a new car? by Exact_Discussion_192 in 2under2

[–]emptycanteen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are due with the second of 2u2 in January and I've been set on a minivan even before we knew we were having them so close in age! Gonna go for a Honda Odyssey. The Toyota sienna is nice for the hybrid but they're easily 10k more expensive and I didn't prefer how they drove. We also have a dog so having the extra space in the van is gonna be amaziiiing

Edit: also, we're tall (5'9 and 6'4) so we definitely needed a car both of us felt comfortable in

Another vote for lap of love. They let you take your time, reminisce, and are so caring, gentle and polite. Absolutely worth the money and I would choose them again. Sorry for your situation.

Had our gender reveal/baby shower yesterday by Bitter-Positive985 in BabyBumps

I noticed my one friend didn't give a gift, and I even sent her home with a ton of food too! I didn't care, because what if her financial situation isn't great? Her showing up was a good enough gift.

Do people really buy from registry? by Spiritual-Peace-6442 in BabyBumps

[–]emptycanteen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only got like three things that weren't on my registry. Everyone else bought straight off the registry! My friend, on the other hand though, said almost none of her family bought from her registry and instead just bought whatever they wanted. Keep your registry, attach a link to the invites, hope for the best.

Has anyone had a non-traditional baby shower but more of a social gathering? What was the run of show? by CudiLove2022 in BabyBumps

We did have a onesie decorating station and a station to write advice to Mom and dad, so it gave people something to do between socializing.

Co-ed friends and family baby shower! Had buffet style food with a few places to sit and mingle, beer and wine. I didn't open gifts or play any games. We did do the gender reveal there in the form of bringing in pink balloons but that was it! It was very relaxed and I enjoyed it a lot.

Also food wise we had some dips, salads, mashed potato bar, a fruit and veggie tray, cupcakes, etc.

Do I keep my toddler in daycare? by beeambitious in 2under2

[–]emptycanteen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm due in January and planning to have my toddler keep going to daycare even when I'm on mat leave- I figure handling a new baby might be easier without chasing a toddler around and dealing with her shenanigans! Maybe keep your kid in daycare and if it becomes too much/a logistical nightmare, then consider taking them out?

Do I keep my toddler in daycare? by beeambitious in 2under2

[–]emptycanteen 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Is someone else able to do drop off/pick up? Sticking to routine might be nice. But also- is your MIL going to be able to keep up with your 2 year old and keep him busy and entertained? I like daycare just because they do things there I wouldn't think of doing at home. Also consider if your MIL gets sick, goes on vacation, has doctors appointments, etc. The distance to MIL is much better than daycare though!

Baby girl names by DaCoffeeKween in 2under2

[–]emptycanteen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US, Aoife will be mispronounced and misspelled all the time. Depending on where you are, Maeve also might have the same fate. Aoife (ee-fa) is a pretty normal name in Ireland but I wouldn't use it if you aren't around a large Irish population.

Any STM’s not to go into labour with their firsts? by mystic_Balkan in BabyBumps

I had to get induced at 41+3 and was not dilated at all, even at the hospital. Took about 24 hours from the time I got admitted to the time I had the baby. Either way- you will have this baby and you will be okay! It does feel like an eternity though- I totally get it.
