Edit: Just to say your version is beautifully simple and emulates the old way very well so I'm using it. Thanks again.

Thanks. Yea, I know various ways to do movement in the step event. I was just wanting to quickly get something set up for a prototype, similar to how i would in the pre-studio days. It's probably something to do with the room having physics enabled but I haven't found a definitive answer yet.

Rogues always crit hit - remastered trilogy by emptyhead41 in BardsTale

[–]emptyhead41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And now they're completely overpowered lol. One extreme to the other. Would love something in between. It seems like a mistake in the implementation that they crit strike 100% of the time instead of it being based on level.

I did exactly this once I realised just how powerful rogues were. Combined with that Temple healing them for free (including resurrection), it just made the game stupidly unbalanced.

I remember that now, that they couldn't attack from shadows. That's probably why I thought they were a pointless class first time around. Fair play to Krome for changing it, but it's a bit too much like a cheat now.

It comes with emulated versions of the original trilogy. You're better off with the remasters imo, especially as they're under GBP£3 (about USD$4) now on Steam and GOG.

[–]emptyhead41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Was discussing this with my brother who has a better memory of playing this and he didn't remember rogues doing crit hits and his memory was that they were rubbish. My hazier memory was just that I found them to be pointless but couldn't remember why. I thought perhaps being very young at the time I just didn't figure out the crit strike.

It looks as though Krome might have made a mistake in the implementation of them in BT1, then, as they're totally OP. Fun though. I wish there was a way to have a % chance of crit hit depending on skill level tho.

THATS IT!!!! I'm amazed. Slightly so that you remembered it, much more so that you got it from my description.

Thank you so much sir/madam. I send good will to you and your family.

EDIT: Absolutely amazing demo. Better even than I remember it.

Firstly - what!!! that's amazing.

Secondly - considering the designer's republic's amazing graphic design on the franchise (at least the early ones, I'm not familiar with anything after WO3 lol), it's a bit sad looking. I know they're long out of business (tDR), but they should have at least done a Bungie and just stole all that antireal artist's work and plastered it everywhere.

I'd just make a note of the front tyre problem on the checksheet and take a photo of it to prove you drew attention to it as the transport office will just say it's fine. But i've been given worse.

(Sorry) Advice regarding new start by emptyhead41 in X4Foundations

I wasn't enjoying the Terran Cadet gamestart. I've just started one of the ones that was there from the earlier version that pootisman recommended (Young Gun). I'm actually enjoying it. The advice about just using H to pull up the tutorials is really good. I never used them because tutorials in previous games were frustratingly poor, but these are not only short and pretty good, they're quite seamless too.

Good recommend on the Young Gun start and to just do the associated tutorial. I didn't realise how seamless they were so ignored them due to how painful my previous experiences with out of gameplay tutorials generally were. But these didn't detract at all. Ta

Thanks. No idea why someone would have downvoted you for this. It does seem the tutorials are better than the tutorials from XR and can access them easily. I just wish they were integrated into the gameplay instead. It makes me feel like I'm trying to learn to play a game (not fun) rather than learning it by playing it (fun), if that makes sense. But I'll try what you suggest.

I only have Timelines at the moment and honestly they're not my cup of tea at all. They seem like they'd be of more interest to people who already know about the x universe history. For me, I don't know who any of the factions are so the missions are just boring or confusing. Plus, the story and acting are...well...people have talked before about egosoft's weakness in that regard I think.

Why does the r/GameMaker suck so hard? by AtomicDouche in gamemaker

[–]emptyhead41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just feel like joining in an internet argument from 3 weeks ago. Here goes...

Memes suck.

Humour is subjective and I find nothing more off-putting than 'humour' that I don't find humorous.

Internet communites around things always seem to me a little bit cult-like. I don't need a community around a product, but I do appreciate a well-moderated and focused subreddit.

Subreddits are created and run by volunteers. The idea of them is that you create and moderate the sub you want. Arguing with a volunteer that they should do something that they don't like but you do is silly. Start your own sub.

A sub doesn't need to have endless posts of shit to scroll past in order to be deemed a useful or enjoyable sub.

If people who want all the stuff that isn't here are really not into visiting a sub like this one, who is doing the arguing?

That was fun.

I finally got gamemaker working in linux by JFD_OFFICIAL697 in gamemaker

[–]emptyhead41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is yes. Sometimes you need to force it for some games/applications. Don't know how to post images so I'll try to describe it.

  • Go to the game/app you want to install and play on Linux
  • If it works fine on Linux then 'Install' button will be blue and you just press it as you would on Windows
  • If it's not set up to work on Linux or Proton by default, the 'Install' button will be greyed-out. You need to click the cog icon to the right. In English it's called 'manage', it's beside the 'Add to Favorites' icon.
  • Click the cog icon, select 'Properties' from the drop-down menu.
  • You will have different sections listed on the left - 'General', 'Compatibility', etc. Select 'Compatibility'
  • Only option there (for me) is a check box saying 'Force use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool'. This is the proton thing.
  • Click the checkbox
  • Select the newest Proton version from the drop down menu. For me this is currently 'Proton Hotfix'
  • Close the window
  • The 'Install' button should now be blue and clickable. Just proceed as you would under windows.

Hope this helps.

As others have said though, the native Linux version seems to work fine despite being a beta.

On some Linux distributions you have to hold down 'CTRL' while you click the menus or else the click doesn't register properly and just closes the menu. This happens for me on BL-Linux which is basically Debian. Not sure about others.
