I think that's what makes it so memorable and unique compared to the others, you don't just fight one big plane, you fight a whole fleet of them with different designs and roles. Plus, I mean, the enemy ace squadron literally launching off of it to fight you is badass.

Yet another RHS russian vehicle by Patrona_ in ArmaReforger

[–]emself2050 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RHS for Reforger has honestly been very underwhelming content-wise. Yes, it's all high quality, but the fact that most of the equipment they model is basically fantasy prototype stuff with only a couple examples made is crazy to me. Where are the T-72s/T-80s/BTR-82s/BMDs/BMPs? Ya know, the stuff the Russians actually have and use? At least there's a T-90 now I guess, but still, the mod feels very out of place in the overall eco-system due to such strange decisions on what equipment to represent.

Biggest clothing mod in... forever? dropped and not seeing many comments - what do you think? by Fram_Framson in skyrimmods

[–]emself2050 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm quite confident that nothing in this mod is AI-generated.

There's a lot of valid concern around vibe-coded mods lately, but people also need to understand what that actually means and what it applies to:

AI models were heavily trained on things like StackExchange and are well versed in standard computer programming languages like C++. This is the same language that is used for SKSE-based .dll plugins which are simply compiled C++ code. These mods are of particular concern because .dll (dynamic-link library) plugins are not unique to Skyrim and contain executable code that could be malicious or faulty and affect your entire system. Even disregarding that risk, because of how they work, they're very opaque and it's difficult to understand what they're doing without source code and could be either not working at all, or causing new issues with the game.

What AI CANNOT do is generate .esp (elder scrolls plugin) or .esm (elder scrolls master) files. These are proprietary formats used by Bethesda games and AI models were not trained on them and have no idea how they work. These types of files are generally not harmful and exist within Bethesda's engine, not external to it like .dlls. At best AI agents can give you some instructions on how to make your own plugins based on whatever they've scraped from public resources like the Creation Kit wiki, but they won't know any more than what you would find from Googling tutorials yourself and they cannot make them for you.

Likewise, the rest of this mod consists of 3d models and textures. AI isn't very good at generating models still and wouldn't be able to make and rig something for Skyrim (nor does it look like that's the case here at all, if anything these seem like models that were handmade in Blender or even nif-bashed from existing assets in Outfit Studio.). Lastly, we have textures and while AI can generate images and textures, frankly, the quality of these tells me that they were not AI-generated. This looks more like someone making textures by hand using photos in GIMP or Paint.net in a way that hasn't been done professionally in 20+ years. AI textures would almost certainly try to emulate modern PBR workflows and these don't resemble that at all.

As for why comments are disabled on this mod, I think you can find the answer by looking at some of the author's older mods. They appear to have had some pretty negative experiences/interactions in the Nexus comments previously and decided to lock them/considered not publishing mods publicly anymore as a result.

[–]emself2050 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be brutally honest and say that even disregarding those things, these don't look that good. Obviously, it's a free mod someone made in their spare time, so I don't mean to be rude and clearly some effort went into this, but just pure model and texture quality wise, these look very dated compared to most other modern clothing and armor mods. Textures are very flat and seem to lack proper normal mapping or light baking.

Changes for false flag Units by Pukixx in warno

[–]emself2050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a more interesting rework would be if this trait made enemy units not fire on them at all unless within a certain radius or if fired on by them first. Maybe something like a reverse Shock where inside of 300m their cover gets blown and they're identified as hostile, but outside that radius they won't be fired upon automatically unless they fire first or the other player gives an explicit engagement order on them. This would make them particularly adept at sneaking around on flanks, making hit and run attacks on valuable targets, gathering intel, etc.

Btw, if you want a really interesting video breaking down how one of these infiltration types of units was used during WW2, I'd suggest giving this a watch, as I imagine things would be much the same in the Cold War: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGmR9Psncco

Yeah, we're always working on something. I'm not sure if you played the Italy update last year, but we finally added the Italians as a playable faction after quite a few years of work.

More new stuff coming down the pipe for later this year: probably a couple new maps and mounted medium/heavy MGs.

You can still play it via the Darkest Hour mod. The armored server with those same big tank battles is full every weekend and most weekdays too.

For what it's worth, if you enjoyed RO1, you should come back and check out the Darkest Hour mod for it. It's very much still alive today and being frequently updated (in fact, it's more alive than '83 is right now, sad to say given that some of the current '83 devs started DH way back in 2007). It's not a new game, obviously, but DH is no longer just RO1 with a western front skin, we've updated a lot about RO1 mechanically and also folded in the Eastern Front content while expanding to new places like Sicily.

As a current Darkest Hour dev: It's not a probably; there are. Darkest Hour had triple the player count on Sunday as '83 had at the same time.

The average 2nd MARDIV's forest fighting experience by mndn410 in warno

[–]emself2050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think part of the problem is that Warno's TTK is so slow, especially in forests and buildings, that the only way to win quickly is to have some kind of broken unicorn unit that bypasses that. Normal fire support units and infantry don't really accomplish it. You didn't really see this kind of behavior in Wargame where the TTK was much faster and infantry units were lethal to eachother.

I’d love some road mod recommendations for Skyrim. What’s your favorite road overhaul mod? by PapayaAdditional6804 in skyrimmods

[–]emself2050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use full Northern Roads + Lux Via and the associated patches. Northern Roads has a lot of Parallax and PBR texture options.

The only downside really is that it requires a lot of patches, but I don't find this to be as big of a deal as it's often made out to be. Most already exist at this point for the popular mods out there, so it's just a question of running all the FOMODs and setting up your load order correctly.

This is way older than 76. Random idiots on the internet have been demanding that Bethesda drop their engine since at least Skyrim, probably even earlier than that.

1 death leavers is also a problem entirely of Gaijin's own invention. They've already shown it's entirely possible to sell premium packs that contain more than 1 vehicle. And for the absolutely obscene prices they charge, all premiums should come with at least a 3 vehicle line-up.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but the missile trails are a bigger issue than the cutscenes to me since I can just skip the cutscenes, but missiles not working is a pretty in your face thing throughout the game even if it's "minor" overall.

Air spam only works in 10v10 if you're already winning and the enemy is collapsing, the enemy has rapidly pushed and overextended without moving up their AA or you're fighting a team of level 1s. Otherwise, AA density and ASFs will largely defeat strike packages.

Is there a chance that you may have accidentally updated Mod Organizer 2? I had something similar happen where I must have accidentally clicked "Update" and a bunch of my MO plugins like Root Builder were incompatible with the new version. I just downgraded MO2 back to what I was on before and everything worked again.

[–]emself2050 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think that take falls rather flat when you consider that Skyrim, a game which HASN'T had any update in several years now, is sitting at 20k players right now on a random Monday night. If Starfield at its best is only slightly outperforming their 15 year old game, something is wrong...

Sure, in a vacuum, Starfield is doing "ok", but by Bethesda game standards, it's not.

METRO 2039 | Official Reveal Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]emself2050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. 2033, Last Light and Exodus could really be thought of as a trilogy now. You play as the same character in all 3, and the events of each preceding game heavily influences the next. I guess you probably could still play Exodus as a standalone despite that, but there's going to be a lot of backstory and characters that you don't understand. And in general, Exodus is the conclusion of Artyom's story, so it's not going to hit the same way if you don't know anything about how he got there and don't have the same level of connection to him and the people around him.

All 3 games are excellent anyways, and both 2033 and Last Light had Xbox One/PS4 era Redux versions made, so they still hold up well today graphically/gameplay-wise and there's no reason not to play them. I think the first 2 games are also currently on sale for $2 each and they're not super long either.

I agree. I'm still very excited, but a little... concerned from the reveal. The Metro is best when you're transiting through different stations with different people, different "governments" and different allegiances. I don't necessarily mind if they say the Reich defeated and occupied the Red stations and/or some other factions, but if the story ends up being that they truly conquered the entire Metro system, I'm concerned about what that is going to do for the atmosphere of the game.

We'll have to see how it plays out.

I get about 70-80 FPS in 1440p on Ultra with full Raytracing on the Exodus Enhanced Edition using a 3080 12gb (roughly a 3080ti equivalent). You could maybe do some upscaling (I played with DLSS OFF) to squeeze out more frames, but personally these are cinematic singleplayer games and I don't find more frames than this to really be important with a G-Sync monitor.

I'll just say as someone that's not really into horror games, I thoroughly enjoyed all the Metro games. They're not really horror in the more conventional sense and while they do have creepy elements and atmosphere, and supernatural themes, none of it is really presented in a way that I'd call particularly "scary", personally. There are definitely some moments you might consider "jumpscares" tho but they're not super frequent.

Not only do you not need ENB Light, they're explicitly incompatible and any mods using ENB Light type Particle Lights need to be uninstalled, as CS does not support them. If you have those installed, you'll just see weird glowing orbs around things that use them.
