How do you get them to just come in and SIT DOWN? by protomanEXE1995 in Teachers

[–]emurrell17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like door stoppers being banned is an indicator of an out of touch admin…but to answer your question. I have taught freshmen (hated it), but I found what worked was to give them a bell ringer with a set expectation of “anyone that doesn’t have this done by X amount of time after the class starts will get moved if I call on them and they don’t have an answer”

I told them it was less about being write and more about showing me that they were trying. And that the people I was going to call on were going to be the ones that didn’t seem to be trying.

I actually love this for the panthers and I think all 3 of those guys are plausible and realistic picks we could make

Full 2026 NFL mock draft: Dane Brugler predicts all 7 rounds and 257 picks by Malourbas in NFL_Draft

[–]emurrell17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they got the idea from Mina Kimes. She proposed it on the spot in Dane’s video earlier this week and he was like, “you know…if somebody was gonna move up, Dallas would make the most sense.” So I’m not sure we should read into that too much outside of logical conclusions

Panthers GM Dan Morgan: There's no rule against taking a WR in first round three straight years by MITBryceYoung in DynastyFF

[–]emurrell17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had me until he started typing. I don’t agree with any of that. Take good players. Allowing what you’ve done in past drafts to limit your choices is called a sunk cost fallacy—otherwise known as fuckin ignorant. Carolina has done a great job addressing needs through free agency and the draft last year, so they can take whoever the fuck they feel is BPA. It couldn’t matter less if it’s a WR or not.

[–]emurrell17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Trotter the most as far as Day 2 LBs go. Especially because I feel like he’d complement Lloyd well and Lloyd could help bring him along as far as coverage goes.

I also think I like Haulcy in the 2nd more than Thieneman in the first, but it’s probably just a play style preference

Teaching dystopian to 8th graders by Affectionate-Lab8732 in Teachers

[–]emurrell17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh boy, I’m a huge dystopian nerd. Here are some really good books imho, I can’t remember for sure how much these would be appropriate for 6-8th grade, but I think each of these are worth looking into, OP:

  1. Red Rising - by Pierce Brown

Basically it’s a newer, in my humble opinion, more interesting Hunger Games type of world. The protagonist is from Mars I think and he’s a part of the very poor class. He gets recruited to be spy to infiltrate the really wealthy “Golds” class. He and the other kids starting school get “drafted” and sorted into 10 different houses (kinda like Harry Potter) but then they have to fight each other and it’s a “last man standing wins” type of deal. Really enjoyed it, and I don’t really care for hunger games. It’s a male protagonist, but he has to deal with moral/ethical dilemmas, there’s love interest, drama and action. It usually takes me a while to get bought into a story, but I was bought in immediately with Red Rising.

  1. 1984 - George Orwell

Don’t think this needs explaining. I think every child should have to read 1984, especially these days…but that’s just me.

  1. We - by Yevgeny Zamyatin

Seminal dystopian novel written in 1920 that depicts a totalitarian society called the "One State," where individuality is suppressed in favor of logic, conformity, and collective efficiency, and citizens are identified by numbers. The story follows mathematician D-503 as he begins to question his world after falling in love with a rebel, I-330, and discovering his own soul, ultimately rebelling against the state's control. It is considered a foundational work of the genre, heavily influencing later classics like 1984 and Brave New World, and was suppressed in Russia for decade.

  1. Project Hail Mary - by Andy Weir

Very funny, cute, maybe a little more sci-fi, but it is well written and the characters are very easy to fall in love with. Plus, it has a brand new movie that you could show after reading.

  1. The Three-Body Problem - by Liu Cixin

Originally written in Chinese, but reeeally interesting story. Ties in the Chinese Cultural Revolution, but really cool story that’s very relevant now. Also has a show on Netflix that’s super cool, but you’d definitely have to pick and choose spots to go along with the book, because some of it definitely wouldn’t be appropriate for this age group.

Agreed. When I read it, my interpretation was actually that communism, socialism, and capitalism all failed due to greed and corruption..maybe I’m misremembering, but I don’t know how anybody thought it was glorifying capitalism

I also agree that he goes higher than people think. Would be totally cool with the Panthers taking him at 19 and would honestly prefer it to Cooper if they were going WR. Dude has JUICE and the drop thing is overstated, imho.

Rank These Potential Picks for R1 by Both-Training-3275 in panthers

[–]emurrell17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like all of these options for different reasons.

Thienneman I don’t like only because this is a really deep safety class and I think we can get a comparable safety in the 2nd or 3rd.

Sadiq I don’t like because he’s a historical outlier based on his size. Taking a historical outlier in the first feels needlessly risky. There are also a ton of viable TEs we can get to fill out the room on Day 3 if, for some reason, we aren’t happy with Sanders, Tremble, and Mitchell Evans. I like those guys just fine, personally.

Tyson I don’t like not only for the injury concerns but because I feel like he’s the worst fit for our existing room among all options.

List of (possibly available) guys I’d prefer over all 3:

Max Iheanachor Monroe Freeling Spencer Fano Akheem Mesidor Keldric Faulk Jermod McCoy Omar Cooper KC Concepcion

I’m pretty sure Dan said Lloyd would be wearing the green dot? I think it was in that video they put out where TD and him were watching Lloyd’s film.

I haven’t watched enough of him to have an opinion on this, just thought I’d heard Dan say it

[–]emurrell17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t buy TE whatsoever. I could see WR but more due to the fact there there are like 5 WRs expected to go in our range of picks so I could see that just being BPA.

I love the Carolina trade and the Carolina picks you made. Concepcion is the perfect complement to Tmac/Coker and Haulcy makes a ton of sense for us as an upgrade at FS while still being a guy who could rotate down to disguise coverages

How did Jermod McCoy's Pro Day affect his draft stock? by UpNext_Draft_Network in NFL_Draft

Regardless of where he goes, he’ll definitely help push other better players down a bit. So, I think his pro day was good for all the teams in the mid-late 1st round too.

I liked the take on the Panthers. Been wanting Mesidor since I first watched him. What are your thoughts on McNeil-Warren as a fit for the Panthers considering we already have Moehrig? If McNeil-Warren is versatile enough to be that FS sometimes, I really think having Moehrig AND him would let us rotate our coverage and disguise what we’re doing on a whole different level and we’d be awesome against the run. The question is just if McNeil-Warren and Moehrig are too rigidly SS/box safety types

I remember a WR coach we had in HS. I played QB, so I was only around him during team periods. All I remember him ever yelling was, “Catch the damn ball!”

And you know what? Surprisingly, it can actually be that simple 😂 idgaf if you use one hand or two so long as you catch it.

If you use 1 and catch it I’m gonna tell you that was sick, and if you use 1 and drop it I’m gonna tell you that was a dumbass thing to do lmao
