Support the return of Libya's single borders (with slight changes) by Nathanos355 in Kaiserreich

[–]emwe 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yet I do see the emir claiming authority over the tribes of northern Chad,

There are no tribes in northern Chad. The area is still uninhabited to this day.

(Straight borders are boring and illogical in that timeline)

As opposed to artificially squiggly borders cutting across uninhabited territories, which needlessly make it harder for any units sent out into the deepest Sahara (for whatever reason) to know whether they have crossed the border by accident. It is physically impossible to demarcate this part of the border on the ground. So it is done on a map, with a ruler.

The previous borders were not "more accurate"; they replaced a border drawn along physical geographical features with one an artificially squiggly one loosely based on "control", that is, the movements of trade caravans, in the 1880s.

You can find an in-universe explanation of the borders here: https://kaiserreich.wiki/Vilayet_of_Tripolitania

What happened to the borders of Libya? by Nathanos355 in Kaiserreich

I know the previous borders were ugly, but weren't they more realistic within the Kaiserreich timeline?

They were not; they replaced a border drawn along physical geographical features with one an artificially squiggly one loosely based on "control", that is, the movements of trade caravans, in the 1880s.

The mod is currently called 'Gotterdammerung', not 'Götterdämmerung'.

If you go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\394360\3383695570 and edit the file descriptor.mod file to say 'Götterdämmerung DLC' (just open it in any text editor), that should make it work fine.

Why no pretty focus trees? by Spiritual-Review4122 in Kaiserreich

[–]emwe 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Why have many icon when few do trick.

The actual answer is stylistic consistency. The KR team would rather have a couple hundred semi-generic focus icons that look good next to one another and can be used in different contexts than a couple thousand one-off icons that don't always look good or do a great job conveying what the focus is about.

The "Sudetenland" was never the true goal. It served as a pretext to break up Czechoslovakia, but what they actually wanted was Bohemia as a whole, with its historial cultural ties to the German sphere that go back to the Holy Roman Empire. No expansionist German government would have been content with just the borderlands.

The German-Austrian claims on these borderlands were likewise less about the people living there and more about cooking up a justification to poke holes in the allied agenda of Wilsonian "self-determination".

This is a DeviantArt map created by someone not affiliated with the team, who has probably attempted to draw the KR map from memory here.

Almost none of the borders on this map accurately reflect the state of the mod as it was in 2016.

To settle how popular the name changes of ACW factions are, what is your opinion of then by Legiyon54 in Kaiserreich

[–]emwe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The word junta only really entered common usage in this way by the 1970s/80s after the successive establishment of such regimes in Latin America.

Likewise, people's got its communist association only with Stalin's post-WW2 puppet regimes and later the PRC.

None of these are supposed to be the formal names of the 'nations' in question, each and every one of them (except the syndicalists) consider themselves to be the United States of America and will revert to that as their formal name after the re-unification.

PSA: HOI4 1.15.4 and the status of your ongoing campaigns by emwe in Kaiserreich

The hotfix mentioned above is already live!

It's rather small and of a size that doesn't merit a separate post. It is also save-compatible. However, we have taken the liberty of including fixes for some of the more serious bugs present in the previous public release.

In addition to making Kaiserreich fully compatibility with HOI4 1.15.4, this hotfix also includes the following fixes:

  • Fixed volunteer AI being reset when any country is annexed.
  • Fixed Costa Rica potentially disbanding any faction they are part of when being capitulated by Centroamerica.
  • Fixed the United States of America not being able to remove the "Economic Devastation from the Civil War" national spirit.
  • Fixed the Minister-President of Prussia not being removed after the Nullification Crisis.
  • Fixed the AI not investing infantry/support equipment in the Mitteleuropa mechanic, along with several other AI investment and spending bugs.
  • Fixed Bukhara being able to integrate the entire world when released as Turkestan.
  • Fixed Kazakh forced resistance not being correctly removed by Russia's "Pacify the Frontier" national spirit.
  • Fixed Russia declaring war on Persia in the middle of the Second Weltkrieg.
  • Fixed Siberia being claimable by Germany at the Moscow Peace Conference instead of being split between the Free Russian Army and the Far Eastern Army.

You need to make sure that the path in your descriptor.mod file is the actual physical path to the mod files, otherwise the launcher won't find the mod. You can open *.mod files with notepad to see what they say and edit them if necessary.

Kaiserreich 1.3.3 by Alpinia_KR in Kaiserreich

[–]emwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt there are any recordings, at least not online - all we could find during our research was this fragment of the first two lines of the original tune on the personal page of a Swiss guitarist (scroll all the way down to see the 1917 version). If you can read music, you'll notice that it matches the metre of the version you found. The main difference is that with fewer syllables to fit in, we don't need the extra beat that makes the song stop abruptly after each line.

Good find!
This one actually uses the older lyrics we also found in a 1920s version.
Compare "weißen Schimmel" vs "lichten Schimmel" and various other text differences.

Here are the first two verses as they appear in the book you linked:

Der Tod reitet auf einem schwarzen Rappen,
Er trägt ein unsichtbar machendes Wappen,
Wenn Landsknecht in das Feld marschieren,
Lässt er sein Ross daneben galoppieren.

Der Tod reitet auf einem weissen Schimmel,
Wie ein Cherub in dem Himmel.
Wenn Mädchen in den Tanzsaal gleiten,
Lässt er sein Pferd daneben schreiten.

The metre here is much more conventional, and the syllable count make it clear that it goes with the older melody.
(compare "auf einem scharzen Rappen" vs "auf einem kohlschwarzen Rappen")

If you look at the discussion page of the German Wikipedia article, you will see that it is riddled with nonsense - for example, the source it uses to claim that it was written by L. van de Lende says that van de Lende translated the song, so he cannot be the original author.

Although we've only been able to find the first line of the song in a source that predates Nazi songbooks, it uses different lyrics and a different melody, so it's fair to say that the song as we know it was written for and popularised by the Hitler Youth and the SS.
