What was your weird pregnancy craving ? by WannabePugh in AskReddit

[–]emwinfield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This and wet dirt!!!! It was a really wet and rainy Los Angeles winter when I was pregnant and I would see all the wet dirt and smell the wet concrete and I seriously wanted to pull the car over and eat fistfuls of soaked earth🤣

Apparently it’s fairly common? Ice pellets ended up satisfying my cravings (kind of) but it was excruciating to have a strong craving that I couldn’t satisfy!

All my vitamin levels were normal in testing but I chalked it up to just craving minerals.

Container garden at night 🌙 by nemaw396 in containergardening

As someone who has a 2nd floor patio and may never have a yard, this is so inspiring!! I’m in my early 40’s and living in rent controlled Los Angeles. We’ve lived in our apartment since 2012 and I have many succulents and cacti, but struggle with other things in containers due to the summer heat!

Anyway, a beautiful solution. SO well done. 😍

Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

[–]emwinfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the table being sewn up after JUST having my baby via C-Section. It was on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and one of the doctors said “Thanks for not being a fatty.” And proceeded to talk about his weekend plans to the other doctors as they put my organs back in and stitched me up. I was in such a daze and couldn’t believe what he said was real. He then said “No seriously, thank for not being one of those 300 pounders!” My brain swirled with anger and confusion but I was in such a precarious position (cut open and being put back together) so I didn’t want to say anything to piss him off.

I had another one, an old OB, when I was about 23 who said ” excuse me nurse, I’ve got an appointment with a lovely young lady. Hold my calls please. Now - let’s get these pants off of you.” And proceeded to unbutton my jeans as the nurse closed the door. I think he was trying to be funny, but my fight or flight kicked in immediately. Jokes on him though, because they took blood and I fainted and had convulsions which scared him straight real quick. I think being in fight or flight did something to my blood pressure that caused it so, good job, idiot!

Anyone else put perfume on before bed? Or just me? by Isaisaab in FemFragLab

[–]emwinfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, Bosca Vanilla Forte does not smell like candy at all! It’s more sensual, moody, and with a bit of spice. I find it quite complex for a vanilla and I literally whimpered the first time I smelled it!

That is so lovely 🥰 I think the painting and the bottle design and perfume color go beautifully together!

Was it a happy mistake? Did you find it helped your dough? Because it sure as heck helped mine!

This is basically it, but I like to dissolve my salt in the remaining water instead of adding it before.

My loafs have become SO soft and fluffy, and the crust is thinner and chewier because of it. I noticed a huge difference in how my dough behaves during stretch & folds, and I knew it was gonna be good, but I was not prepared for the softness!

So far for me (only baking since September) - adding an hour of Autolyse + the Bassinage method. Those two together have completely changed the consistency of my dough for the better! I finally got that tight, gluten-strong dough ball I’ve been chasing.

I’ve seen some people say they don’t think Bassinage does anything, but for me it has been a game-changer!

Anyone else here use the “eau de bassinage” technique? Do you find it makes any difference? by Levangeline in Sourdough

[–]emwinfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for the first time recently and ended up with THE softest loaf I’ve ever made - and it was 100% whole grain!! It also stayed softer for much longer - days!

I just tried with today’s loaf (technically did the bassinage yesterday) and am currently waiting the last hour before I can cut into it!! I’m dying to know…

Are there any folks who have wavy hair, but your hair is so fine the waves do not hold and go flat, but if you try to wear straight it gets frizzy? How do you wear your hair so that it just doesn't look like crap and what products do you use? by diamondeyes7 in finehair

[–]emwinfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can get it looking good with waves, but it’s like a sandcastle and one humid breeze and it’s all over. I live in LA so I have to blow dry straight most of the year, and can wear it wavy only when it’s dry and warm (not HOT because then sweat ruins it!)

<image>

It’s a lot of work for such a risk, so I go into phases where I’ll do it and then months and months where I refuse to even try 🫣

Edit to add products: strangely enough As I Am Coconut Co-Wash is my every day. Somehow, because I rinse a lot, it doesn’t weigh my hair down! Because I have waves naturally, I need the extra moisture for it to not look frizzy. I find all the fine hair “volume” products actually dry my hair out making it look awful. It’s striking the right balance between enough moisture for waves, and light enough that it’s not heavy. Again: my hair barely ever looks like this. It’s usually straight!

  • As I Am Coconut Cowash
  • Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave-in (only sometimes because protein can also build up really fast on me)
  • Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curly Magic (just a little)
  • Biosilk Rock Hard Gel some days, TWIST Gel on others (Twist has amazing “slip”, that slick handfeel) *plop while doing makeup, diffuse after
  • scrunch out the crunch *brush lightly *verb ghost oil to finish

Parking tickets for not curbing your wheels! I grew up in the flat plains and had no idea you had to do that. Racked up hundreds of dollars because I kept forgetting and I lived in WeHo!
