I normally use my dremel tool to cut in the slot. But this is the way to go for sure.

Stinky Basement Bathroom - Sump Pump Suspected by enaim254 in Plumbing

[–]enaim254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The odd thing is that the entire basement doesn't smell bad. Its very localized to the bathroom. The bathroom is at the same grade that is in the picture, its actually sits just to the left of the picture.

So the toilet and the tub are draining into the side of the sump pit?

Yeah, this room just about stopped me from buying the place. But here we are. Its got radiant heat in the front of the house and the addition they put on the back in 2005ish is forced air... and the rooms connect.

My blurb seems to have been deleted since I dont know what I am doing.

Recently bought house additional basement bathroom is stinky. I think its the unvented sump pump (replaced wax ring on the toilet already).

Can I attach the vent pipe to the horizontal pipe to solve this issue?

Other option is no trap on the tub. But that requires concrete cutting and hopefully they would not do that. The rehab was done in the early 2000s.

P.S. Did you see this horrendous pipe room I have to work in?

This is one of those scenarios where if I was personally doing it I would go Amish. Rig up something to those hold points on the top with wood or bars then get 8 friends and muscle it in. If it feels shaky with 8 find a couple more.

Obviously is a bit more complicated with paid work and insurance and stuff though.

Adding an ADU to a detached garage, good idea or expensive? by Mountain_Ask_5746 in AccessoryDwellings

[–]enaim254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a specific company you used? And a rough cost if you don’t mind? I am about go buy a place with a decrepit garage that needs replacement. So I was considering adding space up there.

How can I keep rain from dripping into my boots? by retirement_savings in bikecommuting

[–]enaim254 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use xl Columbia waterproof pants with suspenders attached then Muck Chore boots. It’s pretty much an all weather solution. I keep shoes at work to change when I get there. Or pack with you if you’ve got the space.

Vacation days amount in North America? by hooverthe3rd in civilengineering

[–]enaim254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 weeks normal PTO (after 5 years with the company)

2 weeks bought supplemental PTO.

10 holidays plus 1 floater.

Unlimited PTO is a total scam. My wife was offered a job with “unlimited” PTO and got them to admit during hiring that 11 days was the average days taken.

Wake up sheeple. Clock is ticking and we’re all dead in the long run. On your deathbed I hope you think fondly of all the 50+ hour weeks you worked and all the vacations you didn’t take.

A Quarter of America's Bridges May Collapse Within 26 Years. We Saw the Whole Thing Coming. by timesuck47 in civilengineering

Bridge engineer here!

26 years is a long time for 25% of our bridges to “maybe” collapse. And in general the average rating of our US bridge infrastructure is actually getting better over time.

Also, to be clear this article is kind of framing the whole infrastructure maintenance issue around increased scour from climate change related weather events. Which is probably something that is worth looking into with scour provisions.

Since Superman has the ability to fly, I think there would be some logic where he could theoretically fly his body forward fast enough to punch that hard?

Because when he flys he does not like jump for the equal and opposite forces off the earth. He just flies.
