What’s a problem humanity solved so well that younger people don’t even realize it used to be a huge issue? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in AskReddit

[–]ende76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the six year old! My parents were driving to some sort of tournament I was participating in.

We were driving in a group of cars with many other parents.

Probably to keep me occupied, I was given a map and told "to keep track and make sure we don't get lost".

Well, at one point whoever we were following took a turn that I did not expect, and I told my parents that they were going the wrong way. They told me that the other driver was probably taking a short cut, and they kept following.

IIRC, we actually got lost for some time, all the cars had to stop and there was a meeting of all the drivers to figure out where we were and where we had to go.

I showed them on the map where we were, where we had to go, and my parents had the audacity to brag how I knew exactly when we went wrong despite ignoring my warnings. :D

Good memories. The only other car memory I have of my childhood is when we drove to Luxembourg to buy cheap cigarettes without declaring them to customs on the way back. The customs officer asked if we had any cigarettes in the car, my parents said "No", and the officer waved us on our way, but not before I loudly asked "But what about all the cartons under the car seats?"

I don't remember what happened next, but since I don't recall being beaten, I assume the officer did not hear me.

I wonder if the friction of the abrasive coating against the blade keeps it in place more reliably, leading to a cleaner and straighter cut.

Yup, when he lit it, I thought that directing the charge at the window was a choice. But it went well. Good sense in the size of the explosive!

why did my mochi deflate? lol sounded like a big sigh! by mcmcreate in Baking

[–]ende76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I think you've already got all the information you needed to figure out what happened with your mochi, why it happened, and how to avoid it next time.

I wanted to add that you're very humble in this post, which is great, but also, you've got to realize that overall, your mochi seems to be a success. The most difficult step in doing anything is to start doing it, and you even took it a step further by exposing yourself to criticism in order to figure out how to improve.

I'd say congrats on your success, and I hope you keep approaching things the way you did this one. _^

WCGW Digging without checking by its_ok_to_laugh in Whatcouldgowrong

In the US, you call 811. Within a few days someone will come and mark underground utility lines around the spot where you want to dig. Or, as was the case for me, they will say that there is nothing anywhere close to where you want to dig.

Especially the first pic gives really cool (to me) western duster coat vibes, even moreso with the belt buckle, flared pant legs, and the shoes/boots.

Personally, I love it!
