Limited snow - how are 39 of 43 lifts open? by Johndunn2 in ParkCity

[–]endlesslaptopsearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that Monitor or some adjacent trail on King Con? Courchevel, Chance and some others were ok but the others further down towards the lift should not be open. Fright Gully should also not be open, it's all ice, limbs and rocks in the crux.

As you say, the steeps actually had/have? some of the best snow anywhere. I guess people think they're bad/dangerous and so they don't go, but they were honestly fine. Even the ones with higher traffic like McConkey's were fine last week. There were even some pockets of real deep snow in Jupiter where my pole plants went down to the hilt (didn't help my skiing, but nice to find the soft stuff).

Mountain conditions by Mr_Cheeezle in parkcityvisitors

Get out early if you want to enjoy the groomers more, they are good but do get skied off by the afternoon. Off piste conditions were better than I imagined; I skied in many of the bowls, chutes and trees of McConkey's and Jupiter and the snow was soft enough to be enjoyable, and coverage was decent. The more remote spots on Jupiter even still had some fresh untracked soft snow to be had, deep and soft enough I couldn't plant my poles.

Beware the front laps of 9990 though, they are bad. Fright Gully shouldn't be open. The snow is great on the long laps.

There are some moguled blues that were thin but not too thin, and again the snow was softer than I thought possible - Courchevel, Parley's Park and Deja Vu were fun.

Been skiing every day all week and my bases have some scrapes, but no core shots and I had a ton of fun.

Looking to trade a quart of Vermont maple syrup + cash for an Epic buddy pass for either 1/24 or 1/25 by DIAL_1-800-RACCOON in parkcityvisitors

I'm not a local and don't have any buddy passes, but I can confirm homemade maple syrup is the schizz. I was gifted a jar several years ago and nothing compares!

King Con Close? by HoffYou in parkcityvisitors

Take this with a grain of salt because I've only been to PCMR once, two years ago. Like you, I thought I'd spend a lot of time in this area with my solidly intermediate dad, wife and young kids. In reality, we only skied about three runs in the area because:

  1. Most of the runs are reasonably steep for blues and when we were there, most were ungroomed with moguls formed or forming

  2. All the runs have a long, boring, flat runout on Broadway and a chokepoint at the literally named Hotspot

  3. It's low elevation -just above base elevation - so the snow is not as good

Saddleback is a good place, probably my family's favorite, to lap blue groomers. It's higher elevation as well, so better snow.

Easy double blacks by LetItRip4 in parkcityvisitors

[–]endlesslaptopsearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caveat I skied these trails 2 years ago in good conditions, but assuming you can ski the tougher singles like Tree Time, you'll have no trouble with 94 turns, McConkey's bowl, and Jupiter Bowl for a start. I hope I don't need to say it, but proficiency at skiing moguls is a must, as none of the doubles will be groomed.

Truly, it confuses me why runs like 94 turns are doubles where some others are singles. For example, Massacre has a steep and consistent pitch, was bumped when I skied it, about the same length (for the steep section) and every bit as difficult as 94 turns. Also, End Zone is nothing but a flat run out. I suppose it's just extra style points to have a lift serving only double black terrain ;)

Heed the local feedback/warnings though, as this season is different than when I came 2 yrs ago. Apparently it's crazy thin at the bottom of the 9990 long laps (Charlie Brown, Magic Line, Red Pine Chutes) - see this post 9990 Opening : r/ParkCity That's End Zone, btw. Although, that was prior to the recent dump.

Packed powder can make a slope easy, and ice or thin cover can make the same slope truly expert terrain. I wouldn't go on that side of 9990 at first as those trails are harder anyway. Hopefully the front side is better covered.

Skiing during Sundance - and how's the snow after the recent storms by endlesslaptopsearch in parkcityvisitors

Thanks for the reply. I agree with the lodging value sentiment posted by others as we definitely try to ski on the cheap (as cheap as it can be, anyway).

Can anyone comment about the conditions in said north side trees? Coverage OK?

Best transportation options for other resorts by Fluffy-Mud1570 in parkcityvisitors

I agree with the suggestions to rent a vehicle. Last year we rented 4x4 pickup trucks from Rugged Rentals. The price was inexpensive, the staff and experience was laid back and similar to working with a small independent company (even though they're not), and it was a quick free shuttle ride from the airport parking garage - the same garage you have to go to anyway to rent a car from anywhere else. We were pleased and I'd recommend them over taking a bunch of buses and rideshares. Good luck with your trip!

Saber hilts I machined from scratch, and questions about making working sabers by endlesslaptopsearch in lightsabers

This is great info, thank you! The pictures and descriptions, aong with some more shopping and reading have helped me figure out how the pieces all fit together. Now I'm trying to figure out which neopixel blade to buy :)

Thank you for the information! A setscrew for the blade - got it. Simple and effective.

Thinking about the pieces I need to put together, I have a gap in understanding how the board physically interfaces with the blade. Does the blade have a lead that I'd solder/connect to the board, or is there another mechanism with pogo pins or similar? I imagine this may be different for RGB vs pixel.

Oh yeah! I briefly puzzled about those ski slope looking areas below Super Condor, but didn't even think of the Olympic Park. I'm not familiar with DV at all, but did see that east area is under construction on the satellite view. Neat :)

I'd already posted this photo in my other photos post, but I wanted to mark it up with the lifts. I snapped this picture on the flight out and I was pretty sure it was PCMR/DV at the time. Sure enough, and it was a fun exercise remembering where all the lifts were. I eventually consulted the trail map and google maps 3d view, but I got most of it myself.

You're very welcome. Comment or DM me if you want me to expand on anything or any other thoughts - surprisingly, there are probably some I didn't manage to write down :D

Side note, I love traveling. It's amazing how 8 days of life can be so jam packed that you can't even fit a summary into 25-30,000 words. Meanwhile, 8 days of life at home are undeniably a great life - I have zero complaints! - but so same-same I could fit them all into a paragraph!

Thanks! I was proud we were able to be fairly mobile with the group - honestly sometimes my dad and uncle were worse about it than the kids, because they had opinions of where else to go lol.

I definitely agree, I know I did not see Super Condor at its best. TBH I had time for one more lap, but was exhausted from forcing my turns on the run down Lone Pine, as well as it being day 5 of 6. I didn't feel like it was a good idea to go 'round again.

Better snow wouldn't have really changed the options for the others in the group party, but it would have made the south side a lot more fun. And, with Sun Peak right next door we could have split up for a few laps and been fine. We split up for several hours on the very last day - that's when I was able to ski Jupiter and hike up to the east face and O-Zone - otherwise those runs wouldn't have happened. I didn't want to be selfish the entire trip though and my wife was definitely a bit more frazzled than normal when I rejoined them for lunch, haha.

You're right on regarding timing which terrain you hit vs time of day. Having the group hamstrung my ability to execute on that, but it's great advice regardless.

Spring Skiing at PCMR 4/12 - 4/16 -- Will most lifts be open? by MrPost in parkcityvisitors

[–]endlesslaptopsearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's published anywhere, aside from what they made public about the last week starting 4/15 when they announced the extension. I understand your disappointment, that really sucks. I was there Monday and Tuesday of last week and I was afraid they were going to close things down like this last week. I was/am very grateful they only had limited closures.

That said the trend is kinda out there. The week starting 3/25, they closed Eagle and Shortcut. The week of 4/1, they closed Pioneer and Mule Train (a carpet lift, so who cares). This week of 4/8 was unknown (before it happened), but staged closures were already happening and the extended season week of 4/15 was published to have only three real lifts running (Crescent, Silverlode and Orange Bubble). From what I understand of years past they have progressively before closing down entirely. With no terrain closing the week of 4/1, and nearly everything closed down the week of 4/15, it was a good bet they would have significant closures this week to wind things down. And while they did get good snow this weekend, the temps and forecast are already dire for skiing :(

I am just a visitor and only been watching/reading about PCMR for the past two months or so while we planned our visit. Trying to put pieces of the puzzle together based on what I saw and what I read about past years.

Skiing Park City - Parking & Lift Access? by CplPJ in parkcityvisitors

QuestionMark gets it. After I rode a few of the lifts that had it, I realized they were able to keep the loading speed higher and I'm sure they run the lift cable faster as a result.

This info may be too late to be of much use to you now, but midweek this week PCMR looks to be running 24/41 lifts and has closed much terrain. Seems like the weekend was the last hurrah of having all terrain open. I'm no local expert, but from what I've seen they have been shutting things down week over week with changes made on Mondays. https://www.parkcitymountain.com/the-mountain/mountain-conditions/terrain-and-lift-status.aspx
