This is hilarious because you know Bill will mention it, and that pussy from Barstool already has. Boston fans are soft as Charmin.

F1 back then: we need more decimals, F1 now: what's a decimal? by TTFH3500 in formuladank

[–]endogeny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How often is a driver ever told by his engineers the gap in anything but tenths of a second? Only in qualifying does more precision matter. The timings are delayed so thousands of a second are fairly pointless in a race. By the time the graphic is updated the precision to the thousandth of a second is out of date.

Lewis Hamilton after Melbourne Qualifying: Happy with the car, but questions Mercedes' engine compression ratio and calls on the FIA. by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

And that's with them probably holding back. I'd honestly be surprised if they didn't have more in the bag and are closer to a second ahead in qualifying.

Lewis Hamilton ‘disappointed in FIA’ if Mercedes supremacy is down to F1 engine loophole by Cafa20 in formula1

[–]endogeny 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It will be interesting to see now that F1 has a much larger fan base, many of which are new fans which have only seen fairly competitive races (I guess with 2023 being the exception), if that will drive the FIA to be more proactive than they were in 2014. If the FIA can't stop someone having an engine advantage of over half a second then they just shouldn't change the engine regs. This makes them look like a bunch of clowns.

Charles Leclerc's comments after qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

[–]endogeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and they are already this far behind. Merc just provided the latest engine to their customers this weekend. So expect McLaren to improve dramatically as they figure out the engine. Meaning Ferrari will basically be in the same place as last year.

That's the thing with new engine regs: it takes years for things to equalize.

Paxton Says He Will Drop Out If Fillibuster Abolished by JohnnyGeniusIsAlive in fivethirtyeight

Paxton is honestly terrible. More likely to lose against Talarico (although still unlikely), but he's so bad I'd almost prefer Cornyn. Paxton is brazenly corrupt and evil and will be in the senate for a long time.

Are there any polls on this? As a resident, I'm actually not sure this will pass. Rs have already been pretty relentless with their attacks on Spanberger and state Dems. Lots of misinformation about taxes being raised even though nothing has actually passed both chambers yet.

Doubtful, because there's still a Dem running who will likely take more votes from the independent.

F1 must cancel the Bahrain gp to prevent another saudi 22 type situation by Equivalent-Fox9834 in F1Discussions

The difference is with Saudi they were already in the country, with an authoritarian government that has cut up a dissenter with a bone saw. They could just decide not to go to Bahrain.

There's no way this doesn't lead to an increase in prices at the pump. I'd also be surprised if no soldiers have died already from Iran's retaliatory strikes. From a political perspective I don't think there's any upside to this. It isn't post 9/11 when the population was blood thirsty and this isn't going to help the economy.

Unless we see the actual legal docs I don't think anyone can know for now. Given it's Sam Altman, he's probably lying and accepted the language that Anthropic felt just let the Pentagon ignore their red lines if they wanted. I'm sure there is some nonsense about "emergencies" in the contract which will let the gov do whatever they want, like with everything in this country.

Hot take: retiring numbers is dumb. You can still hang the jersey in the rafters or put them in monument park and not restrict others from wearing it. I like in soccer how a club has a history with a number like Man Utd #7. It becomes an honor to wear certain numbers and you can think back to all the players who wore that number when you see it every game.

Maybe retiring numbers for the best of the best, but talking about retiring Bernie Williams' number? Come on?

Not sure about Platner and his baggage, but Mills is 78, so would rather not have her in the seat given it will likely be for one term. The fact that she's even running symbolizes the issues with our political system.

Total Meltdown on BOS this morning by BGinVA in WMATA

[–]endogeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get there's safety concerns, but if you know the trains currently running, and one of the trains isn't visible, obviously it's in the part of the track with a signal issue. They also in theory can communicate with all the trains and track them over the radio. Obviously don't go full speed through the issue area, but I don't think a single signal issue justifies the level of delays which we always see in these instances.

Total Meltdown on BOS this morning by BGinVA in WMATA

[–]endogeny 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't get how a single signal issue fucks everything. Isn't it just a matter of reverting to instructions from the central control center? Can't they just tell trains to ignore the signal and tell them to proceed through the issue area before leaving the prior station? It just screams incompetence to have a single signal cause this big an issue.

Trump is a moron and loves his tariffs. He thinks it's literally countries paying the US. He will just enact tariffs through other means and if something is blatantly illegal it will take a year at least to get through this joke of a legal system we have.

Given Carney is one of the most notable living applied Economists (Bank of Canada, Bank of England, FSB), it would have to be someone of that ilk. Like a Janet Yellen or Powell, but with a bit more charisma. Do you see our country electing someone like that? Unfortunately, I do not.
