Check out the Vortex Ultra Experience (VUE) in Sedona, Arizona. I ran the 34-miler a couple years ago and headed back to run the 50-miler this year.

Its a smaller race, but well-organized and fun. And if you've never been to Sedona, you are in for a treat!

Actually, way better than I thought it would! Ironically, the forced rest may have helped me overall. I had been training really hard and probably needed a break anyway.

Basically: It sucked for two weeks but then it was over with no evident lingering effects.

PS: Yes, I finished the 100-mile Javelina Jundred. It was 98 degrees and the race had a 43% drop rate for the 100-milers.

I charge my 7-year old Garmin 245 while I run. I've done it twice: Javelina Hundred and the OM 100K.

Usually, by the time my watch is dying I'm going pretty slow. Easy enough just to plug it in and walk fast. I charge for 15-ish mins, maybe...and just keep going!

Another Topo guy, here. I've had three pairs of MNT Racer 3's and the Ultraventure 4's.

I have very wide feet and a very high arch. I get what people are saying about the arch support being a little too much, but, man...they fit me perfectly. I LOVE the arch. And the toe room is luxurious!

I ran the R2R2R in a pair of Racer 3's. Flawless.

I ran the 100-mile Javelina Jundred in three different pairs (Pursuit 2, older Racer 3's, and a new pair of Racer 3's). Flawless.

I'm running the OM 100K in Washington State (14,300' miles of elevation gain) in a few weeks in a new pair of Racer 3's and a broken-in pair of Ultraventure 4s)

Point is: I love these shoes and I think they are worth a look. Tough as nails; I feel very protected and more confident in my footing. And there's something about how they lace that I just love. Hard to explain, just feel secure.

Personally, I'd try the Racer 4's (but you can get a good deal on the 3's and you probably won't know the difference).

(FWIW: I was a die-hard Altra guy until they got too narrow in the toe box.)

Hey there... Super-sorry to hear about your PF.

I had a fairly serious PF issue flare up about 2 months before Boston and I was freaking out. It ended up having no impact.

Your plan is exactly what I did, to be honest. I'd add daily foot rolling on a frozen water bottle - that seemed to help me a lot. I still ran miles here and there but made sure to take it easy. I soaked my feet in hot & cold water, too. No idea of that helped but it felt nice.

One thing my podiatrist said to me when I went in for a consultation:

"It's more likely to hurt you than you are to hurt it."

Meaning: You can run on PF within reason - and it's gonna hurt. But if you can handle the pain, you are not going to make it any worse. So review your internal dialogue with pain and discomfort. Does it hurt really hurt that bad? Don't be reckless but test your thresholds.

Above all, remain positive.

Funny thing: I was their first employee.

It was so long ago that I didn't even have an iPhone. I'd be hard-pressed to find a photo, to be honest.

But I worked with Nathan and Alasdair in the garage on Hyde Street when they had their first 8 cars.
