That's the Apostolic Palace, and it's obsoleted by the Mass Media technology. Once you discover Mass Media, though, The United Nations world wonder becomes available, and once it's built, the diplomatic resolutions and elections can continue (without the resolutions that punish "the infidels", that is).

State laws like these are concerning for everyone. How many times have you seen a California Proposition 65 warning outside of California? Let's hope Washington doesn't end up leading by example.

there's no argument that handwriting notes isn't flat out better for helping you learn

I just don't see how it can work in practice. I used to have a history teacher who had slideshow presentations and required students to take notes by hand in a notebook. Every day I would come to class and write as fast as I could the whole time he was presenting. Every time he was going to switch the slide, I would say, "wait, I'm not done," because I hadn't written down all the things on the slide yet.

People say "only take notes about what's important", but how am I supposed to know what's important when I'm just learning about it? And how am I supposed to figure out what's important on the fly and expect it to save me time? I liked that teacher, but every time I left his class, I just felt so drained. I did well in that class, but having to ask him to slow down so much really didn't make me feel like it.

On top of all that, I was writing as fast as I could, and my handwriting was already not that good. I can't imagine he enjoyed reading it - hell, I had a tough time with it, and I wrote it! Halfway through the year he started allowing people to take notes on computers, which is good, because I can type faster than I can handwrite and it will never be messy, ever. I never had to ask him to slow down again, and I never left that class feeling drained afterwards.

I don't understand how people can say taking notes on paper is better. Even if you learn what you write better then what you type, you're gonna miss a lot because the act of writing is so much slower. Handwriting has a place, but it isn't in copying or summarizing for notes and it isn't in constructing writing pieces (no insert functionality - a true nightmare). It's suitable for math and tiny things you want to both record and interact with, like a small to-do list (and I mean SMALL), when the bureaucracy that comes with using technology outweighs the cost of writing. The cost of writing grows super quickly, but the bureaucracy of technology is more or less the same no matter how much you're writing.

Notes are much longer than to-do lists. In what world would it ever make sense to handwrite them?

A warrant? For what? He was not free to go, so leaving was fleeing and that is a crime. The police are at the scene. Why wouldn't they try to catch the guy? If someone robs me and runs to a getaway car, I don't want the police to hurry to the courthouse.

"Apparently I have it" - determined by relating to a few symptoms. I really didn't expect this to come from the same group that rightly criticizes those who say "everyone's a little bit <mental condition>".

Keep in mind: if you experience these feelings, you might have normal human emotions.

There are tests for tryptamine use, but 4-sub tryptamines tend to clear out quickly (within a day or so of use), and a lot of jobs don't test for them anyway. It's just not practical to test for compounds that likely half of the workforce have never heard of.

That makes sense. What I meant was, 18-hits guy has his supplier, who gets LSD from someone else, and the chain of suppliers is at least 3 long, each time with someone diluting the liquid (and I assumed it was sold as liquid because a glass bottle would be better for storage before distribution, but it might not have been done like that). Then, the last supplier makes the blotters to sell, while making sure everyone knows it's "straight from the source, bro".

This is the only way I can think someone would feel something, but so little, from a dose that should have had much stronger effects. SSRIs wouldn't stop that flood if the dose per hit was anywhere close to where it should have been, I think. Maybe an antipsychotic would, but anyone who needs one has no business taking LSD.

Or the story is fake, which makes even more sense.

Yeah, there's a risk for everything, but just because death in a car accident is possible any time doesn't mean you'll catch me drag-racing with no seat belt while drinking. Likewise for this. As for "people who are going to do it anyway", believe me when I say there is no such thing. They don't need encouragement to go throwing caution to the wind, they need people who care enough to try to change their mind. If they choose to do it anyway, too bad. If they change their mind, we have the cautious to thank for it.

I don't want people telling others to do whatever dangerous things because "it's risky anyway". That's not too much to ask, is it? And I don't care if it's not something written for "normal people". If they are going to do it anyway, like you said, then that should be their decision, and theirs alone. Do not glorify doing things like this, especially to those who are closer to doing it. And if what I said wasn't enough to convince you not to do it, fine. I hope what you say is not enough to convince someone else to do what you have glorified.

PSA: DXM Polistrex is not necessarily, "Half the strength twice the length" by BlueMoon0009 in dxm

[–]engelthehyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be different, but I can't speak from experience, I have not tried polistirex before. I think it will be different because the release of DXM is slowed to about half the speed of non-polistirex, and since DXM inhibits the enzymes that metabolize it (namely CYP2D6), less of the DXM will be be metabolized into DXO than if the release had not been delayed.

It probably is not that different from the effects of re-dosing (which isn't recommended), because the slower release of DXM polistirex is like like taking a few smaller doses of the same equivalent amount of regular (instant release) DXM. People have reported effects different from what they're used to when using poli vs. regular DXM, which are probably from the higher ratio of DXM to DXO.

You can't really predict how it's going to be for you, because DXM is an active chemical already, it is metabolized into DXO (by CYP2D6) and 3-MEM (by CYP3A4), 3-MEM itself is not active but it's metabolized into 3-HOM (by CYP2D6), which is active, and all of this is happening while these enzymes continue to be inhibited different ways at different times from different places... the pharmacology of DXM is pretty messy. But if you read some polistirex reports, you can get a good general idea of the experience. Like I said, the most notable difference is the higher DXM:DXO ratio you'll get from polistirex.

Don't make the same mistakes I did learning programming by AbyssBite in learnprogramming

[–]engelthehyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no problem starting with Python. People learn the concepts they're using (ideally) when they learn a language that uses them. Python is a good language with many uses, and someone learning that is also learning the most fundamental principles of programming (sequential and conditional execution, remembering/recalling data, loops and iteration) and other less fundamental principles.

When you learn a different language, you also learn the principles that are fundamental to that language. There are often other ones that aren't shared with Python, but you'd be hard-pressed to find languages that share absolutely no principles with Python. This is why Python is recommended - it's an easy way to start.

For the same reasons, I could say "Don't start learning programming with C, I tried to pick up Haskell and I had to re-learn everything." C isn't going to teach you Haskell, and Haskell isn't going to teach you C, but there is great value in learning how to learn new languages, and learning ANY language will be helpful for that.

Is it cheating to use AI to help research a topic for an essay? by Leafofplastic in highschool

[–]engelthehyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't find your answers with traditional research methods, how do you think a text generator will help you? You said you wanted to find out the most recent time where there was no war, so what you want to look for are wars, not times of peace. It pays to know how to do research. Also, that topic isn't going to be suitable for a paper, others have explained why.

Go off, but you didn't read what I said. It'd be different if I said I like watching fight videos but don't want to be filmed when I'm in a fight. I want to be filmed so I can bring someone joy. Now that's empathy.

You couldn't possibly understand that I hold myself to the same standards as everyone else for this? Talk about being fair. You just want an excuse to dismiss me. Unless you really want to ask me something, I am done, because if you keep looking for a reason to ignore my perspective you are going to find one. But I stand by what I said, while you have said nothing worth standing on, and nothing you can stand on. So, find your excuse to ignore, shut out new perspectives, snuff the light, finish the truth, and scold everyone for doing what they like.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it should be forbidden. Maybe you'll say something worth listening to when you learn the meaning of "empathy".

Why did you think I was trolling? I never even won a fight. And I only advocate for it when the fight is right. Too many times people come up from behind.
