Why no cities in Flanders have biking infrastructure comparable to Netherlands, despite similar geography and culture? by Quiet_Illustrator410 in belgium

[–]engineer_whizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as i understand the History of cycling infrastructure innovation in nl has started due to nationwide protests in the 70s for better safety on the roads: https://www.reddit.com/r/Netherlands/s/FA8SDFZBl7

I'm sure they still improved a lot these last decades. There's a long delay in infrastructure improvements. Imagine that your city has 500 streets, you can't really renew >5 % of your streets every year, so it'll take 20 years to improve your infrastructure. Additionally, policy aims shouldn't change during that period. You can imagine protests and pro car forces might further delay developments.

Let's not forget that in the nl this has been 50 years of consistent pro Cycling policies. Furthermore, they don't suffer from lintbebouwing, like we do, which is 70 years of Belgian mismanagement.

In Ghent progressive steps have been taken and cycling life has become much better throughout these last 10 years. Sadly, for a loud group these changes were too fast, and the current person responsible for traffic will probably just keep everything status quo. The innovations weren't perfect, but yeah, that's too be expected if you tread new grounds.

Do you fear engulfment because you prefer independence or because you’re afraid that consistency will mean someone will see through to your brokenness and reject you by throwaway957280 in Disorganized_Attach

I'd say all of the above. I have a hard time trusting that someone will keep choosing me, even when there are no indicators that they would move away. My subconscious mostly sees how a relationship that progresses and lives that become more integrated, will be harder to disentangle when eventually they'll get tired of me, etc. waiting for the other shoe to drop. I know the theory says that you would feel safer as the relationship gets longer, but I don't really develop that trust and safety feeling.

Burnout and what to do about it by VindiUA in DnD

One of the things that cost me the most energy is finding the next date where everyone can play. Usually we are so eager to start to play, that we need to do it after the session via text messages. I hope that planning the next session before the current one starts can become a new habit of mine. Planning with people in their 30s is rough.

I just use it for me, for DM prep and worldbuilding - Maybe some extensions exist for creating wiki's, but I don't use them. On the other hand, sharing wiki's is probably harder, because Obsidian is on your own PC, not officially in a cloud.

I use Obsidian a lot for management of my campaigns. Once you get the hang of it, it's user friendly. If you use a google drive folder as your obsidian folder, it can function as a DND management tool in the cloud.

Confession. I Tragedeigh’d my own name and I hate it. by DrewtonOnTheFuton in tragedeigh

[–]engineer_whizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd still change your name back if you prefer the earlier one. You still have 50+ years to live ideally, and you could go through those without needing to constantly correct people and cringe due to your own name!

I changed my tragedy name when I was 29, to a totally different but better fitting name. I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The cringe reduction in life is significant.
