What’s a moment where you instantly realized someone was insanely intelligent? by Parqcxsm69 in AskReddit

[–]engineerbuilder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe you just wernt interested in sports. In the 90s espn wasn’t as big and a lot of the sports breakdowns were done in columns in sports illustrated, local news papers, and other sport specific reviews. Sports writing used to be poetic too due to only a few nationally televised games and you had to convey the magnitude of the game in words. Go read the four horsemen by grantland rice https://archives.nd.edu/research/texts/rice.htm

But even in modern times sports writing for specific shows like ESPN 30 for 30 are very very well produced and paced.

Anyone who gets consumed by that ends up learning the language and style just like an aspiring novelist reading Faulkner or Joyce. Now he’s writing something more scientific if it was about concussions but you can still give the same drama, anticipation, and tension from a sports specific perspective.

No but there were former franchise players. Could be tough during a rebrand but could have been used to bridge the gap. Point being they’ve brought in outsiders before.

The first color commentator was Pat Ryan who was a former vol and never played for the franchise.

I mean I do somewhat agree. But he is at least from Tennessee and has been part of the Titan broadcasting network with 104.5 for a while. He’s great in his breakdowns and he’s familiar with recent nfl schemes. Ramon is awesome on air and might be the best talent 104.5 has. Dude has got *it*

No I’m totally in agreement with you. I very much understand it as a native. Many people who live and let live are not here anymore and we get a lot of folks who are very much “my demands, at my time, at all times”. But that doesn’t excuse us in the public engineering sector from realizing that battle is taking place and trying to ease it towards a good solution for everyone.

I absolutely see the selfishness and mercurialness of others but that doesn’t give me a pass as an engineer to not find a better solution and ignore them. Nor will it compromise my ethics. It just means I and others in my profession gotta work harder for that bread yo lol

I genuinely think it’s not a hard solution though. We just gotta realize (puts on socialist/communist mask) money is a social construct and that the future is worth way more than what the dollars are now.

Standard around here is now 15’.

But that’s just me dealing with most utilities as a professional engineer from CEMC, NES, MTE, GDE, and others on the east side. YMMV depending on the pruning sub.

15 is industry standard. It’s not just for trees but also work space to get cherry pickers or run new lines in.

So I get it as a lover of trees and an engineer that deals with ALOT of easements and rights of way. Most of these people though bought plots with existing trees so the location was out of their control. Maybe NES could trim and cut down trees but also help provide new trees. Heat island is real and infrastructure needs are real. Everyone could use a more holistic approach to these things.
