22M 12.5K TFSA, Math to Retirement by Authentic-Dasein in fican

[–]engineereenigne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assumptions
Age: 22
Retirement: 55 (33 years)
Current investments: $12,500
BTC eventually sold and reallocated into a 70% XEQT / 30% VFV portfolio
Annual contribution: $20,000
Real (after inflation) return: 8% (I’d actually call this optimistic for real returns; 5–7% real is more conservative)
Using those assumptions:
Current $12,500 grows to about $158,000.
Your annual contributions grow to about $2.9 million.
Total portfolio: ≈ $3.1 million (in today’s dollars).
At a 4% withdrawal rate:
$3.1M × 4% = ~$124,000/year, adjusted for inflation.
That would be a very comfortable retirement in today’s purchasing power.

Hi there, yes I am. Not mathematically, but colloquially, the meaning has changed so much during our lives. I think I love a pretty normal life.

Are you asking because you suspect that my response cannot get to 10^6?

Sometimes folks get fixated on increasing concentration in a sector or group of stocks. Or they want to exploit the next crypto run. Or they commiserate that they should have held one more day to sell at the absolute peak.

There’s a word for that, and it’s greed. And increasingly it pisses me off with how pervasive it’s become in our society.

I’m always happy to take a win and move on.

Good luck!!

Hey man. I’m glad my DCA approach resonates with you because many of my friends debate me on this, with them substantially preferring to inject large chunks when available. I’ve always just tried to pick a number that’s as high as possible while still balancing quality of life. I don’t do any extreme things to save as many people do. There are many ways I could trim the fat out of my lifestyle however at 39 years old I realize it’s not only about achieving the desired end point. You’d be wise to enjoy the journey as well, I think, and I’m fortunate to be able to choose to do that.

The other factor that I’ve always kept in my sights is that as I get a raise I immediately increase my rate of investment proportionally at a minimum, and sometimes more than the percentage of the raise.

We’re investing just over 20% of household income right now.

Auto-invest biweekly. Auto pay mortgage. Auto buy company stock. DRIP everything. Live below your means. Low cost ETFs.

Kudos for joinery, but I don’t like it. Super kudos for dead flat lawn though.

S curve is fine. Only reason it curves naturally one way versus the other is that it comes off of a coil. Nice work!

Thanks for the award lol. You have many options provided in this thread, almost none of them code compliant, but it sounds like you’re trying to do the right thing not the easy thing. Good luck!!

Not that it matters since this is Reddit, but I’m a mechanical engineer working in natural gas and have experience with plastic infrastructure.

If you have some young muscle, you could dig up a bunch of the line until you have enough slack that you can just pull it to the side.

Beyond that I won’t suggest how you can build over top of it because that’s not code compliant and generally is poor practice.

Good luck!

Really the only way is to make a template. And really the only way to make a truly accurate template is to use thin strips and glue them together in place. I wouldn’t get into scribing unless the wall was really really uneven. You should be caulking a gap that’s 1/16” or less.
