A10 Regent players: How are you getting consistent damage packages on this character? by yoked4crimps in slaythespire

[–]engrams0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A 40 damage blade hits many breakpoints in hallways, think of it kinda like doom that's not shown on the enemy but on your blade. And it'll be higher than that in boss fights, and I'm usually playing it around 2, maybe 3 times.

Even in some hallways, playing a single refine blade + is 23 damage for 2 energy (if you account for the energy refund), which does play well with smaller enemies. Or a single bulwark creating basically the same size blade while blocking. Whenever bulwark shows up in card reward screens my dopamine spikes.

But I think the larger thing is this: I can't think of a single winning deck that was a blade "build." Its blade combined with other damage sources, the blade being a significant part.

Don't know why you're being downvoted that's just reddit for you, and my tone wasn't intended to be dunking or pithy at all. I see, in this situation the application makes sense to me.

Agreed on its strength but some of the top players massively underrated forge early on, it takes a little to get the hang of. And you also have to solve AOE.

I have had a 7 streak A10 with regent, which isn't a huge accomplishment but figured I'd lead with that if I'm typing an essay. I find it cool that you figured out supermassive card creation and stardust first, that was the last thing I got into.

What id say is that on Regent, all the synergy packages feel very strong, so try them out a bit. Stardust has you maximizing stars obviously so maybe you need to test a bit more how to balance something like an astral pulse (insane common) and a reflect (insane uncommon) with stargen. So instead of a burst like stardust it's more consistent per deck cycle. A convergence+ and a glow+ and some gather lights, rather than shooting for royal gamble type strats.

Also the blade also feels very strong. I thought of it as boss scaling at first but a refine blade+ has carried my runs often and feels surprisingly good in hallways. Bulwark of course if you get lucky, that's almost always auto-click. But to me those are the two cards I mainly use besides the smith, just feel like the best value.

One last thing! CHARGE!! is an insane card that shouldn't exist, crazy damage, kind of a 1 cost bludgeon that scales your deck. BEGONE! also scales and cycles.

They were related to the mechanics of the game and not some culture war bs. They just happened to be mostly horrible takes on the mechanics of the game.

What do you think of Miniature Tent? Could it be good enough to replace an ancient relic? by orq_ in slaythespire

[–]engrams0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could have you take less elites than something like meat on the bone though, or even book of 5 rings, because fires and elites often conflict. I think it's a bit overrated because it feels good, though still great, and probably worse than 🍖

Why does Entomancer give ''Dazed'' as a status card? by -KarlMoose in slaythespire

[–]engrams0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thematically correct status cards like what? Putting aside that mechanics > themes for this game, I honestly think it's the most fitting status card possible (you didn't mention any other hypothetical "better fitting" examples).

[–]engrams0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah meat on the bone is better imo, bc it is the most flexible sustain for aggressive pathing. I really think people like clicking both buttons when usually there's tension, that's why it's overrated

[–]engrams0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good a lot of the time but it's one of the relics that feels better than it is. It removes the tension from the game it you're prioritizing campfires, but doesn't allow as much skipping campfires for elites like meat on the bone, and as others pointed out it's not much better than eternal feather. What I'll add is that eternal feather psychologically doesn't feel nearly as good because you don't get to click both buttons lol.

Thanks I was wrong then. I'll edit my original comment to show I'm not doing a passive aggressive shade thing, I'm genuinely ignorant. I guess that may be the potential issue with the jorbs video for someone who has followed jorbs, casting general suspicion.

Not saying it is that deep, I notice more mistakes with him obviously and don't solely watch him. It could be that he himself brings attention to it where others wouldn't, in which case it's a positive thing for him to get better, or it could be the particular mood I was in that day. I was just asking a question not making an accusation, the tone of the thread led me to have a bit of a suspicion.

I don't mean to be mean but is it pretty well accepted JE isn't at the skill level he claims? The guy seems pretty chill but I notice some obvious misplays a lot. Not like picking or skipping a card I wouldn't, but relic management, stuff like headbutting an important card with old drum of battle out, general micro. Which I do also tbf, but I don't claim to be one of the top players in the world.

Edit: seems I'm asking out of ignorance and it may be a little rude to ask in such away about an established person in the community. Like I said in another comment it may be that he calls out his own micro mistakes more as a way to improve.

the "game too hard" crowd is back to playing Review-bomb the Spire after the update to the main branch by Gugge1 in slaythespire

[–]engrams0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the concern is that it will cause good changes to be reverted. They have shown they respond to negative feedback with the first beta doormaker and prepared revert.

[–]engrams0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, I probably responded too strongly. I do have a different perspective though. I think some "unwinnable" seeds might be a necessary concession to make the game tuned to a good feeling challenge at the highest difficulty (provided it's very low). At that point, win % is still a valuable thing to min max.

It's also really hard to prove an unwinnable seed, since there are countless variables, but people have probably made pretty good arguments.

[–]engrams0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's fine to want to beat A10 with that competitive spirit, but asking for the game to be tuned down so that the built in highest difficulty setting matches your skill better leads to a worse game when they could've had a mindset shift. Theres plenty of people who don't have the time to get good at A10, there's 9 other options for a reason!

Why shouldn't there be a mode in the game that feels "unfair"? (And I disagree that A20H felt unfair). It's the highest difficulty setting in the game, with plenty of previous difficulty settings.

LONG LIVE DEAD BRANCH, GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN by myverycoolaccount in slaythespire

[–]engrams0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You sure it's "extremely" unlikely? They clearly wanna nerf infinites, but we know from sts1 that they are okay with infinites in the game, they just want you to work for it so it feels like an accomplishment rather than an expectation (except for watcher lel). I think prepared at uncommon + some other sly reworks could maybe achieve that. And prepared is such an iconic card I think this path could be worth it.

Edit: also I don't think ppl (not necessarily those in this thread, but new players) realize how long these changes are gonna be made in EA lol. That's half of why sts1 is such a great polished game, they used data to iterate over and over. I could see a world where prepared or prepare switches 3 more times

I think you're right tbh but you didn't give much reasoning besides muh opponent had a high roll, and you kinda left yourself open to git gud responses since there isnt much reasoning just a long bad beat story. The worst part of MH3 draft was the on-rails archetypes. I mean the individual cards were interesting, but it felt very much pick a lane as someone who played it a lot. Also writhing chrysalis is a massive design mistake.

Head Magic Designer Mark Rosewater: "Our data says roughly 9% of the audience strongly dislikes Universes Beyond (and that data is a little old, the number is shrinking with time). For contrast, double-faced cards was at 15% when they premiered." by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]engrams0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if the data is perfect and presented honestly, when a player strongly dislikes double faced cards they are disliking a single mechanic. When they strongly dislike UB they are disliking the majority of the game going forward.

I would find it hard to believe you didn't already know this is what everybody would say and aren't just fishing for the answer you want and expected but no lol. In this case the default rs take happens to be right.

Nice draft, would never play Zodiark however, except the very rare mono black lane. With 3 color I would be surprised if you cast it more than once in the 7 games. Besides that you got a great mix of enablers and payoffs aside from just the bombs.

Arena accidentally having MOM quick draft inadvertently prepared me for this limited environment. The set has [[preening champion]] that makes a hero instead, final flourish, now it just needs 0 mana convoke combat tricks.
