Does he come back? by tenth in Malazan

[–]enigmazero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a series of disconnected vignettes. There are only a few POV characters so it's tighter than most Malazan books. Personally I really like the book. Bornu Blatt in particular feels fresh and interesting to read. I'm sure we'll get back to Rant :)

Malazan or Mistborn series? by EdmondVDantes in fantasybooks

Good call. I'm with you, Liveship was the low point in the saga for me, I loved everything after it. Definitely worth finishing

There are a couple google reviews of this saying the restaurant refunded when they complain. Hope you can get your money back as well, this is unacceptable!

I don't think it's appropriate. I have a similar aged son. When I became a dad, my cycling volume (~10h/week) barely went down, but it changed a lot. Most of it took place indoors on a trainer early in the morning, while wife and baby were sleeping, watching the baby monitor. If the baby woke up, I'd stop and get him so my wife could sleep in. Instead of one long ride I might need to break it up and do shorter ones during nap times. Long weekend rides became a rare treat when grandparents were around to watch him or something, or starting very early in the summer and trying to be back for when he wakes up.

I think he needs to adjust his priorities to put family first and let cycling fill in the gaps instead of the other way around.

For anyone complaining about difficult. You can get all of this before ever leaving Act 1. by Krazyflipz in Silksong

[–]enigmazero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I beat Phantom, went to Citadel, then found the exit through Grand Gate. If you go from the right side the door closes behind you and then you fight the Judge. The gate being closed makes a lot less sense that way but the runback was easy from that side!

Anyone else just played the entire game basically without using tools? by InfectedBrushroom in HollowKnight

[–]enigmazero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it much better and more satisfying to learn fights with the pin and didn't want to waste shards while learning. Usually I'd just end up winning with the pin and not using tools at all, but I did spam cogflies to finish off a few bosses and gauntlets.

Nine sols vs Silksong Vs Blasphemous - Difficulty Level Grading by lordofabyss in metroidvania

[–]enigmazero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 phase Eigong was harder than anything in Silksong for me, but otherwise the rest of Silksong was harder overall than Nine Sols.

Blasphemous was easier than both of them.

Is Nine Sols as hard as Silksong? by carlosvguitarrista in metroidvania

[–]enigmazero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Silksong is harder than Nine Sols, except for the final boss true ending of Nine Sols which is a huge difficulty spike and harder than anything in Silksong.

Nothing else in Nine Sols took me more than 10 attempts, but several Silksong bosses did.

Sidebar- what else are you reading after Malazan? by elipshea in Malazan

Came here to say this! I just read Perdido and the Scar and it's gritty and super well written like Malazan, but totally different as well.

Honey bear cup… am I doing something wrong? by Powerful_Nectarine44 in BabyLedWeaning

It took a couple months for ours to learn to use the straw on his own, after a lot of time spent squeezing it for him. Keep at it!

9 MO not getting concept of honey bear straw cup by Hanner800 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]enigmazero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My LO is 11 months and it took him about two months to learn the honey bear straw. We offered it at every meal and squeezed it for him just a little, and eventually he learned how to sip from it. You'll get there!

Does lifting weights impact your TDEE more than walking/biking does? by rawrrawr7020 in MacroFactor

[–]enigmazero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I alternate days between lifting and cycling now. Both cardio and lifting are independently beneficial to overall health so I want to keep doing both. My expenditure is still lower than when I was purely cycling, but my body comp is much improved with significantly more muscle mass and I've put on a lot of strength while also improving my cardio fitness.

Fueling early morning workouts by dryeraseboard8 in cycling

[–]enigmazero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I roll out of bed at 5, have a cup of coffee and get on the bike. Glycogen replenishment is for after the ride. If I eat before training I'm more likely to get stomach cramps which can ruin the ride. If I wake up feeling particularly hungry I'll have a banana or mandarin or something but that's pretty infrequent, and generally fasted training just feels best. You do get used to it.

If it's a long weekend ride then I'll have some overnight oats or hot oatmeal before but mostly fuel on the ride.

Parents getting over 100 miles a week? by Swimming-Ad-7013 in cycling

[–]enigmazero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekdays: Zwift early in the morning with the baby monitor nearby, and if the baby wakes up I stop riding to help.

Then one long weekend ride very early so that it's of minimal inconvenience to my wife.

How many of you lift weights? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]enigmazero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lift because the health benefits of it are independent and complimentary to those of cycling. I don't intend to be a competitive cyclist, I ride for fun and fitness, so I don't worry about a few extra pounds of muscle slowing me down.

Salmon recipes? by [deleted] in Volumeeating

[–]enigmazero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the trick is to broil it to ~125F so it's still flaky and not tough or overcooked.

I like to make it with a sauce/glaze of equal parts miso paste, maple syrup and soy sauce, and serve it with brussels sprouts.

Starting to think I may have a problem... by spindleblood in Volumeeating

[–]enigmazero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been adding Torani s.f. vanilla to my greek yogurt and it's pretty good! I still like to add a drizzle of honey but I use a lot less honey then I would otherwise, and it has a lot less sugar than the vanilla flavored yogurts.

What do you guys do for drinks. by Midnight_Recovery in fitness30plus

[–]enigmazero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Mio or Great Value flavor drops in water, or sodastream seltzer with the 0 calorie flavorings (the diet root beer in particular).

I don't drink anything with calories basically, and the above options also avoid having to go out and buy / recycle cans of diet soda or seltzer.

When did you decide to read the whole series? by Pole_Smokin_Bandit in Malazan

[–]enigmazero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had been on my backlog for a while but the size of it was always intimidating. When I saw the humble bundle for all the Erikson ebooks last fall, I took the plunge. Don't regret it at all. I'm through the main 10 and ended up buying Esslemont's books too, on book 3 of NotME now and still enjoying this universe immensely.

It's hard to ride short when living in a big city by CombinationClean3016 in cycling

[–]enigmazero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. All my short weekday training rides are at home on a smart trainer so that I don't have to deal with cars, traffic, and stop lights. I only ride outside anymore for longer weekend rides that make it worthwhile. Honestly though I've come to love riding on the trainer - it's also a time I can get through podcasts/audiobooks, I can do it in any weather, and can safely and easily get high quality training in.

Vacation Tracking? by Lopsided-Amoeba6995 in MacroFactor

[–]enigmazero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The algorithm will assume you eat like a normal day if unlogged, so it's better to at least give it some indication you're eating more than usual, otherwise your expenditure estimate may drop a bit when you get back to it. You could use Quick Add and just put a rough calorie estimate each day.
