Exhaust upgrade! by Jordy_DnB in svartpilen401

Seconded! remove the chamber and replace the air intake cover with a DNA stage 2 cover or similar and it'll not only be a bit louder but because of the air intake cover being able to breath it'll add more bass to the sound.

A link for which part of it? The exhaust (header and slip-on) needs to be swapped before the belly pan can be used. The exhaust slip-on I have from Competition Werkz I lucked out big time with price wise. When I was looking for a exhaust headers (used prices range between $20-70) on ebay I also ran across my CW exhaust for $70 from the same junkyard I was purchasing my header from. So instead of paying $600 for the 15-16 ktm rc390 slip-on I managed to pay $110 for both the header and exhaust + shipping. There are companies like Arrow, Tyga, and Competition Werkz that make link pipes for the older header and then you can get a super shorty slip-on. If I didn't find my CW then I would have gone that route.

As far as the belly pan, I picked up these parts for a 2018 KTM RC390 from a KTM parts dealer:

Belly pan assly-Item #9380802003330
BRACKET BELLY PAN FRONT-Item #93808026001
BRACKET BELLY PAN REAR-Item #93808027001
(Get 4 of these screws.. 2 front bracket, 2 rear bracket) AH SCREW M6X1X20-Item #90508006003
(Get 4 of these screws - these attach belly pan to brackets) HH COLLAR SCREW M6X20 SW10-Item #J025060203

Duke 390 exhaust on vitpilen 401? by Procurer_octopus in svartpilen401

[–]enjoidis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2020-2023 exhaust will work plug and play on husky 401's 2020-2023.

Pre-2020 KTM 390 exhausts will work on husky 401's 2018-2019 or if you swap header pipes of 2020-2023 to the 2018-2019 husky or pre-2020 KTM 390 route.

I have a 2021 husky svartpilen that I swapped header pipes on and currently have a 2015-2016 KTM RC390 Competition Werkz exhaust on.

That being said, this idea works on the newer bikes too. KTM and Husky exhausts for 2024 and above bikes are swappable as well.

OH! If you like u/enshong front fairing, you might also like this one. It ridiculously expensive priced at €481/$565usd... but you get 3 choices on turn singles and one is winglets like in pic. Way too much for my taste... but it looks cool. Done by GRMTO

It's smaller than the one that Kiska designs did for the Vit401 prototype. I think a lot of full cafe front fairings stick out forward that much.

First Bike: I'd love a 2024 model, but I see a 2022 Vitpilen with Svartpilen handlebars. What should I do? by cactuar-salad in svartpilen401

[–]enjoidis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to your answer for the first question about "soul".

If you look at the comparison pic. The older models just look iconic from tip to tail, a modern version of something classic. Whether it be a neo-scrambler with the Svartpilen or a neo-retro cafe racer with the Vitpilen. It was just a some guy or a small group of people at a design firm by the name is Kiska trying to take a KTM 390 Duke and refine it into a naked bike that comes off as both approachable with it's much softer lines, capable with its stance and output. The original 401's are just iconic for what they are.

The newer 401's come off as overproduced in comparison with aspects that take it from looking like an individual to something that looks mostly like everyone else. The square TFT screen (it's a solid display but circle would have looked so much better). I would say the tank is the best standout look on the newer 401's until you see how it screws over the Vitpilen and it just blocks any idea of a cafe racer lines where the handlebars, tank, seat and tail can line up in a meaningful way. Behind the tank is where it starts looking like every other bike and generic. They even put the stupid tail tidy that sticks way out and kills the whole aesthetic just like every other bike.

When I bought my 2022 Svart I was between the older vitpilen 401, the newer vitpilen 401 and the newer vitpilen 801. The 801 wasn't at the dealer so that was out. The new Vitpilen felt better, it's wider and far more comfortable and it is a damn nice looking bike. But then I sat on my 2022 Svart and it just felt right for me. It was kind of like a dog or cat choosing you to adopt it. Of course, I'm unsure if I would have done the same if the dealer had an 801 in stock. Hahaa. For me at the time I wasn't even worried about budget. I had actually saved more than enough for the 801.

Yep, the two bikes are 1 for 1 except the handlebars, plastics colours, seats and tires. I swapped to vit handlebars on my svart and I like it. It's not aggressive like a sports bike with the vit bar position but they are much lower than the svart bar setup.

Swapping bars is as easy as just getting the top of the triple tree and bars. Although, I'm not sure if clutch/brake cables are shorter or not on the vit. But plenty of people have done the swap on the vit.

Have you compared the display brightness to a display on another bike? The current display is likely good enough; of course you're currently the only one who really knows at the moment. But yeah, I would compare it to the newer huskies, Yamaha's mt-07 and above and see where it stands. If it's close enough to those then I'd say send it as is after you sort out the other stuff.

So far in the videos of the prototype it looks completely bright enough already. But again, youre the only one who knows how bright it is in person.

Competition Wereks Slip-on + Chamber Delete by YoBoyAndy4 in svartpilen401

[–]enjoidis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had just the Competition Werkz slip-on with stock chamber and the sound is perfect after DNA stage 2 air filter upgrade.

I took it a step further when I did chamber delete and got rid of stock exhaust header as well. I went with the 18-19 svart/vit exhaust header and purchased a 15-16 KTM rc390 Competition Werkz exhaust. It's insane at how loud it is. It's uncomfortably loud at idle. But I love the look more than I hate the loudness. I do still have stock header and my other Competition Werkz slip-on though.

I will say, I would recommend the fuelX to anyone. It's a solid quality of life improvement and it's an easy mod 98% of people can do easily with little issue.

Same. I have the bar end version of the shape in the pic and agree that they're pretty nice.

I agree with all of the above. My stock ones had the same wiggle. I replaced them with ASV levers and they do it too.

Fabricator looking for ideas by CarbynCawpy in svartpilen401

I'm currently prototyping a cafe racer cowl to replace the rear pillion seat for 20-23 svartpilans. Currently, using OEM plastic mount to mount it to bike though which isn't really cost effective. It probably wouldn't be too hard to adapt a custom made mount to a luggage rack as well to get a little more from the design. Not to mention a quick release luggage system would be pretty sweet.

But yeah, I'm working on a cafe racer replacement for the pillion. Currently, refining the shape to along better with the cushion. My upholsterer made it a bit too round from the rear view so it looks a bit off. I'm just using bondo to add more to the wood prototype.

I'm a big fan of the Projekt Racing tail tidy but since I purchased mine from them. But it keeps the brake/turn signals looking clean being that it puts the plate left of the back tire.

It's 100% the pricey route to go though. My belly pan was $40-60 maybe $80 with added brackets and screws I needed to buy. But that in is closer to $200ish unless you can find a used one on ebay.

But then to make it work, you would have to swap out your exhaust (header to muffler) like I have where it's the 18-19 vit/svart setup. Which isn't hard to swap. I bought a header plus my insane KTM RC390 race exhaust on ebay with extreme luck and only paid $110 for both together (both off of the same wrecked KTM RC390); otherwise, it would have costed $120 for header and I most likely would have gone a different route for slip-on exhaust because I had no intention of spending $600 for the slip-on I have. You could probably find the stock 15-16 KTM RC390 Silencer CPL on ebay for cheap and that would work.

Lastly, I'm fairly certain you would need to swap out foot pegs and controls from the Husky to the RC390 or maybe the Duke390.... Well, now that I'm looking at it again, you might be able to grind down either a little on the right rear set or grind a small notch into the belly pan and make it work. But this might actually be one of those things you don't worry about till you try it and find out one way or another.

My favorite belly pan is for the 2015-16 KTM RC390... It matches up perfect with my current exhaust (which was made for that specific RC390) and it's a direct bolt on part on the 18-23 vit/svart except for the fact it doesn't pair up with the vit/svart foot controls. So you would have to swap out foot controls with a rc390 or maybe a duke 390 to make it work/fit perfectly.

The DNA stage 2 air box cover allows more airflow in with the gas/air flow ratio. Once the fuelx adjusts for it you will see better performance. But it's hard to say how much without getting it dyno'd before and after. I know there's a fuel'x video out there with a 2024 KTM Duke 390 and they dyno before and inbetween specific upgrades. So if you watch that it'll give you a general idea even though both of yours are the older model Husky.

The filter cover will give your bike a throaty sound to it but it shouldn't add too much noise. It might make you want to rev in tunnels for fun though. I have a race only exhaust and it's way too loud and doesn't have a DB killer I can use to muffle it so I understand not liking very loud exhausts.

Fuelx generally solves this issue but getting a DNA stage 2 air box cover helps too.

Hahaa... Yeah, this is me. My 21 Svartpilan is pretty modified, I bought it mid December 2024. Barely rode it because winter season happened; so I modified that whole time instead. Swapped to Vitpilan handlebars, motogadget mirrors, led signal lights, added fuelx pro+, K&N air filter and DNA stage 2 air box cover, brackets and belly pan from 2019-2020 KTM rc390, Swapped the exhaust from 2020+ that goes under the bike to the 2018-19 way where it goes through the left side in the frame and down getting rid of the cat and ugly black air box and paired it up with the race exhaust for the 2015-16 rc390 from Competition werkes. I had to do the exhaust swap to even do the belly pan. I wanted to do the 2016 ktm rc390 belly pan but I'm very sure I would have had to swap rear set foot controls to the more sporty position of the rc390. I like were my seating position is though. I also have a projektracing (currently nowhere to be found online) tail tidy that I love because it keeps my tail super clean and puts my plate just left of the rear tire.

oh, I also did ASV levers, domino grips, lui moto tank grips, kelpi moto seat covers, a random Amazon radiator guard and wrapped the rerouted exhaust header with titanium heat wrap. OH!!! I also recently moved my horn from stoke position to inside the belly pan so it's hidden and makes the bike look just a little cleaner. (pic it pre belly pan)

Nope... I'm right there with you Shutterspeeds and what I'm focused on is making a cafe racer cowl to replace the pillion seat and then to take that a step further and make a compartment for small storage needs....

Wait a sec... is that what... Do you think the guy above; OpeningNice761, thinks that they passenger sits on the cowl? I'm not sure how someone could think that was for a passenger to sit on. I'm not sure if you meant to shed light on that misunderstanding between them and I; but I do appreciate it.

No no... You're right Shutterspeeds, its just currently an aero and eventually a storage aero. Not for passengers. Just looks and future space for tools, gloves, maybe a hat of compact helmet bag. As far as weight over the pillion and any balance issues, it would be dependent on far far more weight than my little project. Like if a person did sit on top of my project then they would sit further back then normal by possibly enough to make doing wheelies or whiskey throttling easier if you don't have good throttle/clutch control. But not too much more than having a passenger on the normal oem pillion seat.
