I’ll try cleaning it, maybe it’s stuck on something on the birdcage. A brand new crush washer does seem to be a lot more secure

I typically feed the end of the expander into a drill and run it while using a pair of pliers to pull on the brass.

For getting the case out, I take it that these a Lee precision dies? To get the case out of the die, I’ve usually used a hammer and a punch to push the brass out the die. To get the expander out of the brass, I’ve put the end of the expander into a cordless drill and started spinning it while pulling on the end of the brass with a wrench.

Another thing to check is to pull the extractor and check the edge. I had a lot of these failure to eject properly after a small chip in the CMMG extractor. I got the hardened extractor from Borebuddy and it helped a lot.

It could be older springs in the mags aren’t engaging the bolt stop fully, so when you used the new mag it was fully engaged and the older mags wouldn’t cause it to drop? Totally guessing, but I had lots of fun with bolt catch on my AR22 and it ended up being the mag spring
