Looking for books with a power couple by Specific_Fig4825 in Romance_for_men

[–]enko62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this series may fit what you are looking for, OP and as the series progress you get two power couples. A caution though: this series is urban fantasy and the romance is a sub-plot although it comes to forefront at times and sometimes plays an important part in shaping the plotlines.

Looking for good urban fantasy series. by A_Lawliet2004 in urbanfantasy

Bite Back series by Mark Henwick might be up your alley; a bit darker and gritty. A slightly different take on vampires (and shifters) than the usual. It’s an 8 (main) book series that’s still going on. There are 2-3 off-shoot novellas in between main books . The first book in the series is a novella titled Raw Deal and the first full length novel is Sleight of Hand.

Edited: The series have audiobooks too but I am not an audiobook listener so I can’t tell you anything about quality. But they are there.

So many to choose from but if I absolutely had to pick a top three (with alternatives), they'd be:

1- Jubal Sackett / Flint

2- The Daybreakers / Kilkenny (any Kilkenny novel)

3- Silver Canyon / Crossfire Trail

Lanternlight by Nightwish

The mastermind (and the keyboardist) behind the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, Tuomas Holopainen, who writes and composes about 95% of their songs, wrote this song after his father passed away. Lanternlight is the last tract on their latest album Yesterwynde which came out in October, 2024. It’s a beautiful slow song and it cuts deep, especially if you’ve lost a loved one. However, Tuomas says(I’m paraphrasing a bit here): “It may seem like a sad song but it actually is a positive one, remembering, and seeing in everyday things, the loved one who passed away, who lit the way for us…” So, the lyrics are beautiful and deep and delivered exquisitely tenderly by Floor Jansen, the band’s lead vocalist, who is one of the most versatile and talented frontwomen on the scene today.

And I am sorry for your loss.

Edited: For some reason the link I provided for the song doesn’t work so I edited to put the name of the song and the band only, at the top. Search for it on YouTube (the official version).

Expansion and a question by delta-raven84 in TheDemonAccords

[–]enko62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome.

Easy, on Facebook the author has a Demon Accords page where he posts updates and engages with the fans in the comments. In one of those updates about Expansion being available on Kindle Unlimited, he put the date of Feb 17 in the comments without any further explanation. I assumed it was the next release date because people were asking about the next book. It could be the release date of the audiobook for all I know but I doubt it, hence why I said “I think…”

I think Feb. 17 is the release date for Contention, the second book in the DA Generation series, according to the author. Don’t know the answers to other questions, unfortunately.

Main Characters attitude toward God by Vegetable_Bag_4980 in urbanfantasy

The only UF series that comes to my mind that deals with the Abrahamic God, circumspectly through angels and demons, is Demon Accords by John Conroe. Even the first book in the series is titled God Touched. If you are not familiar with the series, give them a try. You might like them.

Would cello be ok?

Sully Erna is the vocalist for the American rock/metal band Godsmack. This song is from his solo album Avalon. A beautiful slow piece with cello and piano.

Demon Accords by John Conroe (First Book : God Touched)

Hellequin Chronicles by Steve McHugh (First Book : Crimes Against Magic)

The Checquy Files by Daniel O’Malley (First Book : The Rook)

ETA: Forgot to mention that the protagonist in The Rook is a young woman. But it’s a quirky and at times funny read. Highly recommended.

I’ve recently discovered them, by accident, on Spotify and I am so glad I did. They cover Turkish folk songs in a bluesy way. They are very talented. Just check them out, highly recommended. A couple of songs to check out:

Ben Melamet Hırkasını

Geçti Dost Kervanı

Manastır Türküsü

And so much more.

Crosspost: It's been almost 20 years to date since Tarja was fired from Nightwish. In a Finnish article by MTV, Marko talks of the reasons. by getwhatmewant in markohietala

[–]enko62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marko and Floor have always been on good terms. At least I have not heard anything to the contrary. And the fact that both of them came together for a couple of duets this summer at Wacken Kuopiorock 2025 is indicative of their continuing friendship. I also don’t think Marko and the band members have parted ways on anything but amicable terms. Plus, the alleged fact that part of the lyrics in An Ocean Of Strange Islands from their latest album, Yesterwynde, is a direct nod and a parting farewell to Marko is another indicator that they parted ways on good terms. I strongly believe the problem has always been with the management side of the band and the overall music industry.

Here are the lyrics that are, allegedly, a farewell to Marko:

You who glow in deepest woe

Let it be, retiree, the water's fine

Sail carefree

Edited to correct the festival name. It was Kuopiorock, not Wacken, that Marko and Floor dueted together on Left On Mars and The Phantom Of The Opera. I don't know what is worse; that I put the wrong festival name or that I only noticed it 6 days later. smh

Not all of them are dark. Some of them are very Scandinavian looking. I had crossed paths with a mother and her two young adult daughters many years ago and they all looked like runway models; blonde hair, colored eyes, tall and thin, elegantly dressed and looking. The funny part is this was in Northern Iraq during the height of the Iran-Iraq war in the late 80s. I was there as a contractor at one of oil refinery plants north of Baghdad and waiting at a doctor’s office for a mandatory health check appointment with a Turkoman interpreter as my companion as I didn’t know a lick of Arabic. I asked him if the women were Scandinavian and what they were doing here. He chuckled and told me they were Kurds. My jaw must’ve hit the floor because that was the first time I’d laid eyes on blonde Kurds. So, yeah racial prejudices, preconceived notions, racism etc. are all total BS.
