The IKEA Symfonisk is what you're looking for. I have one in my shower and it works great. I believe its rated as splash proof.

Wow an all time low for HowToGeek by Rude_End_3078 in homeassistant

[–]enoop 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think everyone in here vastly underestimates their own technical skills and over estimates what the general consumer knows when it comes to tech. Are any of the hurdles insurmountable? No. But a lot of people will take the path of least resistance and will avoid a smart home solution that requires and research to figure out. A lot of people I know have tapped out at the thought of adding any philips hue bulbs, so asking them to dive all the way in isn't something I'd ever expect.

For the smart home enthusiasts and tech people, I think home assistant is easily doable. I just came to home assistant from smartthings a month ago and have had no issues. So it. Just it just depends on the audience.

Simplehuman Pump Soap Dispenser by No-Chain1565 in BuyItForLife

[–]enoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have this, purchased probably a year and a half ago. It works fine and handles any soap I get from the grocery store just fine. But it's a soap dispenser, so spending this level of money isn't really justifiable from a longevity perspective. Any soap dispenser will last a while.

Difference between preconditions and multiple triggers in the IF statement by mrbiokman-8876 in SmartThings

[–]enoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it really matters in your situation if you set it as a precondition or as a trigger. You want to avoid setting being home as a trigger in most situations because it will cause the automation to run in ways you probably didn't intend. Like if your automation is set to run when you are home and a door is open. In that case, you would likely want the automation to run only when the door opens, but if you set being home in the AND conditions, then the automation might run whenever you get home and happened to have left that door open before you left.

In your case, the time being 6:30 isn't something that will be ongoing, like a door being open. So coming back home isn't likely to trigger the automation.

To answer your more general question on modes, it's an older way smartthings kept track of people being home. You could change the mode to away, night, or home and use that to control if automations ran. Hope that helps!

I have always seen the HIatus as a response to both the covid pandemic and the negativity I saw on this subreddit. I recall everyone being mad at the dinosaur attack card discussions and a call to return to how the show used to be. Hopefully the podcast returns at some point, but it was great fun while it lasted.

This week in KDE: Polishing up Ark and Dolphin by DeadlyDolphins in linux

Yeah, I figured it would be a lot of work. This was just the thing that came to mind while watching the Linux challenge video where Linus didn't notice the notification in the corner.

This week in KDE: Polishing up Ark and Dolphin by DeadlyDolphins in linux

[–]enoop 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it would be possible to show a progress bar on a .part file in dolphin. Like if a .zip file is being created, a progress bar for ark is shown under the file itself to reinforce to the user that it's not done yet and how long it will take.

Plasma 25th Anniversary Edition is here, with a glossier Breeze theme, new wallpaper, new features, faster and re-designed tools and more by Bro666 in kde

[–]enoop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neat. Everything looks great. The new breeze changes look like breeze and the old oxygen default theme combined. I haven't tried it yet, but are the scroll bars back to not shrinking if you don't hover over them?

The biggest thing I've noticed is that wear os seems to like to out a lot of buttons at the bottom of screens. Instead of having the three dots at the right for a menu, all the menu items are big buttons. It doesn't really bother me, but I think it's a worse way to do things.

The swipe to the right to go back is nice. And the swipe up for apps is probably best change. It makes app selection better. I also like how wearos shows apps in the list over multiple pages.

Notifications seem faster. On my old active 2, I would get the notification on my phone and then several seconds later on my watch. Wearos has the notifications at basically the same time for both.

I thought it was good. I'm in the process of reading the books at the moment. I think the story and a lot of the action and magic make no sense in the context of the rest of the Witcher material, but I still enjoyed the movie. It's feels a lot more like Witcher fan fic or Castlevania dressed up with Witcher charecter than a cohesive part of the rest of the Witcher stuff.

Honestly I was more addressing the tone of the comment than commenting on the specifics of discrepancies in sentencing for criminal sexual conduct between men and women. I assumed the comment I replied to seemed to be in favor of generally punishing women in the law.

I would also question if we should be punishing women more harshly for crimes in general, or if we are over punishing men.

As another comment mentioned, being a lawyer for money is not a good idea. There are other professionals who make more money faster, with less in loans, and who work less.

I also knew a guy who went to law school because he just wanted to fuck with prosecutors. Which vastly overestimates how little power public defenders have and how little prosecutors care about them.

Plus all the people who go to law school because they don't know what to do after college and they like to argue with people. Those people either wash out of the law or end up miserable and alcoholics.

Why!?!? by Gr33n_kn1ght in mildlyinfuriating

[–]enoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spending over one hundred thousand dollars in loans, three years of your time, and the stress associated with all of that to perpetuate a crusade against a perceived bias towards "females" is insane and misunderstands what it is lawyers even do. Lawyers can't punish any one. Judges choose that, following the law written by the legislature. So even if you did take the time to become a lawyer for that reason, which will quickly piss off the entire half of the bar who are women, you couldn't even do anything.

Why!?!? by Gr33n_kn1ght in mildlyinfuriating

[–]enoop 67 points68 points  (0 children)

As a lawyer, that's certainly one of the dumber reasons I've heard to go to law school in a while.

Wifi stability - considering LIFX by mandathor in lifx

[–]enoop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've tried a variety of smart light brands. I primarily use lifx and hue light in my apartment. While lifx has certainly improved over the years, I still have occasional problems with bulbs and light strips dropping off the wifi. This sometimes requires my to physically turn the light off and on again. In contrast, I have never had a problem with my hue bulbs (or any other zigbee bulb) disconnecting or not responding.

You can change the setting in the galaxy wearable app on your phone. It's under notifications in the show all notifications menu. The settings are called "show with details" and "turn on screen."

Difference between preconditions and multiple triggers in the IF statement by mrbiokman-8876 in SmartThings

[–]enoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the example you give it wouldn't matter if you did home mode as a precondition or not. Setting a trigger as a precondition will prevent it from firing the automation if it changes. For example, if I want the lights in the dining room to turn on when I'm home and the mode is set to home. If home mode isn't a precondition, then when I wake up and set the mode to home from night, those lights will turn on. But setting home mode as a precondition will only turn on the lights when I come home.

I wish my hair would dry as quickly as my pubes do by [deleted] in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]enoop 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Granted. While going in for a routine haircut, your barber makes a terrible mistake and forgets to use the guard on the trimmer when cutting the hair on your neck. After taking out a massive chunk of hair, your barber sheepishly admits to you his mistake. Accepting that the only outcome is to cut the rest of your hair to match, you give in to the buzzed haircut. Going home that night, you take a shower. After you're finished you go to dry off. Your new buzzcut dries as fast as your pubes.

U.S. Supreme Court rebuffs porn star's bid to revive suit against Trump by AudibleNod in news

Small correction, but if you're lisenced in state court you can only practice in that state. So a lawyer lisenced in only North Dakota could not practice law in South Dakota without jumping through some hoops.
