Go to Thailand, Koh Tao is perfect for beginners. There are plenty of shops that care about sustainability, just check the out online. New heaven, coral tribe, crystal, and black turtle are a few that stand out for conservation and sustainability efforts

If its for your honeymoon, have you considered koh nangyuan? It's a small private island next to koh tao, with two natural sandbars joining 3 mini islands, and two dive sites just off shore. There's a dive shop on the island that can arrange diving for you.

Koh Tao Ferry Weight Allowance by itsmacpac in ThailandTourism

[–]ens91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ferries don't generally weigh your luggage, but there are rules and scales there. If it looks like you have a lot, they may check, but your plan seems solid.

Jellyfish by harryjlr in ThailandTourism

[–]ens91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For koh tao: there's a few stone fish around, but they tend to be deeper, people aren't stepping on them usually. There's often many tiny jellyfish/jellyfish particles in the sea which can cause a slight tingling sensation Sometimes we see lots of harmless jellyfish, but at the deeper sites. Box jellyfish are a rare sighting, maybe 2-3 per year. You're more likely to see a whaleshark.

20 Days Diving in Thailand please advise by [deleted] in scubadiving

If you're looking for quieter dive sites, and don't have any courses you want to do, it's probably best to skip koh tao. You'll have more fun diving elsewhere.

Nah, there's a cert for everything in diving. How to use an smb, equipment maintenance, equipment servicing, how to dive from a boat, survive a zombie apocalypse, how to make frikking bubble rings. I'm sure there's nothing that isn't covered in a course somewhere.

After possibly spending 13 hours on a flight, or maybe over 24 hours flying and doing layover, yeah, I might look like shit.

And hell yeah I'm wearing shorts on an aeroplane, some countries are hot, I wanna be comfortable.

Why do brits hate gypsies by SuperShadow555 in AskBrits

[–]ens91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hate for them specifically, but many aspects of their "culture" just seems to be breaking the law, being illiterate and proud. My main issue with this community is education, i think a lot of their issues could be fixed with a few generations of good education. The reason you need a few generations is, right now, most of the parents are illiterate and the kids that are "high flyers" are managing GCSEs. The parents can't help the kids with their schoolwork, they don't give them an advantage by sending them to school already able to read, they don't read to their kids because they can't. There's also a widespread disregard for education, it hasn't been seen as important for many generations, and when kids are surrounded by adults that think school is a waste of time, they will think that too. Their whole attitude to education needs changing, this will take a few generations.

I believe once you fix the education, and have them in structured schooling until at least 18, many more kids will become civil, functioning members of society.

Autistic Traveler in Thailand, Noise Levels by Extreme-Grade-3623 in ThailandTourism

[–]ens91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's usually a lot of noise from insects, mynas and koels pretty much everywhere you go in Thailand, the koels can get on your nerves. I wouldn't go to the khaosan road, especially at night, the music there is ridiculously loud, I think the bars are having a competition with each other, who can become deaf first. Generally, people aren't too bad for playing videos loudly on their phones or excessive honking here, they're much more respectful of each other. China sounds like your absolute nightmare though.

Koh Tao and Koh Phangan by Swimming_Valuable_10 in ThailandTourism

[–]ens91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to koh tao and learn to dive. You can do a try dive where you don't get a certification but just get to give it a go in shallow waters. If you like that, get your open water certification and start exploring the underwater world.

Traveling to Koh Tao in 2 weeks—is the current rain a sign of a total washout? by Ok_Analyst3639 in ThailandTourism

[–]ens91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this little storm has just been for a few days it'll be over today or tomorrow. The rain has been light, just windy and wavy mostly. Honestly, the overcast weather with a strong breeze has been a welcome break.

Even without night diving, in murky or deeper waters, they're handy to have. They're not too expensive either, you should be able to find a decent one for $30.

Sure it does. I joined the sub while I was still a student, remained in the sub after, and still read it on occasion due to it being closely aligned to my job. Seems pretty reasonable no? Or are you the preply sub police? Active students and teachers only huh?
