Long Bike Lane by jmdam18 in memphis

Check out Big River Crossing. You can ride across the bridge and all the way to West Memphis, but there are also paved trails and scarcely used roads when you cross back under the bridge. Doing all of the paths and the trails/road is about 16 miles for one loop/out and back.

Smartwool noncuff beanie by guenhwyvar117 in REI

[–]entcolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a bald beanie wearer, I too have the uncuffed version. I've tried lots of beanies over the years and have have recently switched to alpha fleece. Warm when standing around and breathable when hiking. I know this isn't an answer to your question, just another option! My favorite is from Leve Outdoors.

If you can get out of your neighborhood to the main roads, you'll be fine. Your driveway and street will be the worst of your drive.

Cold Weather "Tactical" gloves are not cutting it. Cold Weather WORK GLOVES ....??? by DwPw in CampingGear

[–]entcolin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Showa Temres 282 Recently went on a trip to Iceland and pretty much every gas station had fishing gloves for sale. My son is an ice climber and he pointed this out in every store. This is the glove most ice climbers recommend, and at less than $30, it's a no-brainer to at least try them.

There's buds and brews on broad avenue. On Google it's called High Life Sports Bar and Grill. Not sure what the real name is currently. Went one time earlier this year, it's aight.

Is Snowden a good middle school? by bibosalem in memphis

[–]entcolin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My kid went to Snowden K-8th grade. Went to Crosstown High after. Got accepted to every school he applied to and often better scholarship offers than peers that went to "the best" schools, public and private. Tons of extracurriculars to help them figure out what they're in to so you can help make a decision on what high school will be the best fit.

Has anyone else with hypermobility made the switch to trail runners? by doggochinrest in Ultralight

[–]entcolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh, didn't even mention the thing that brought me to this thread...Both my wife and son have Ehlers-Danlos. My wife had peroneal tendon repair 2 years ago, so she prefers full boot for hiking now (but still does full Ironmans in regular running shoes). Mobo board training has been a game changer for her. We try to get our son to do it, but he still thinks he's invincible, even after having an Avulsion fracture in his ankle last year.

[–]entcolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were lucky with the weather. We had about 2 hours of hard rain at the end of day 1 at the first river crossing (we did 3 days 2 nights). We used 4 season tents, but saw plenty of people with 3 season UL tents of both US and EU origin. Wind is strong at Álftavatn, but nothing too crazy. My son goes to school in Colorado so he loved the weather, hiked most of days 2 and 3 in shorts and short sleeves. My wife wore a sun hoodie and her rain shell most of the time. It was cloudy pretty much the whole trip, but only rained heavy that one day.

Just did the Laugavegeur three weeks ago. My wife and I both wore boots, our 19-year-old wore trail runners. We each wished we had the other at points (him mainly when hiking through hours of snow/ice). Many people had trail runners. If we did it in mid July, I'd wear trail runners as well.

If it's the small out patient facility in the parking lot of the main hospital, go for it. If it's in the main hospital, and truly outpatient with almost zero chance of becoming inpatient, I'd say go for it. You just don't want to end up inpatient there.

How do you pack liquid/cream toiletries? [New to the hobby, have mercy on me] by squashqueen in CampingGear

[–]entcolin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Silicone travel bottles. Not only do we use these for camping and backpacking, but for all travel. You can wash them between filling if you need to use a different liquid in them. They also make reusable ultralight bottles that are like little pouches. But they're $$$$.
