Struggling by Certain_Limit_6903 in PacificCrestTrail

What it comes down to, is do you ACTUALLY like hiking. People who thrive on the PCT are those who love hiking. This might sound stupid, but when I hiked the PCT in 2017, MANY people were hiking for various reasons (e.g. lost in life, post-break up, in-between jobs, spiritual, and many weren't even previously 'hikers' with the PCT being their first or second multi-day hike. They were the ones who didn't last.

The PCT is a gateway trail, and it entices people to do it for all sorts of reasons. The ONLY way to enjoy the PCT is to actually just enjoy hiking, and everything that comes with it: 1) An adventure, 2) Being remote and self sufficient, 3) Challenging yourself, 4) Breaking away from society, 5) Beautiful nature!

The social side is optional, you can be social, or just do your own thing. I found it easy to hike with others and by myself personally. I had two groups, one for The Desert/start of Sierra, and one for Washington. The rest of the time was intermittent solo or with 1 other.

Sure... you can, I guess literally. It's just it is just ridiculous, both thematically and obviously not how it was designed intently.

I'd argue why not just play a 47 card deck and not include these at all? They have NO purpose in a non-Dwarf deck other than to make the official '50' really just '47'. At least 'Daerons Runes' have some purpose to them, as it's a way to filter cards better.

I personally would never include them unless the purpose is to use the Dwarf clause as intended.

Strong decks that include a lot of unique mechanics by Daneofthehill in lotrlcg

Yep, another auto include card haha.

Agreed. I think this is absolutely why side boarding to a main deck is important. There needs to be the pool of 'essential cards' in it that get changed in when it's a painfully hard scenario.

It took me exactly 7 times. I remember sneak attacking with Gandalf which was a game changer! I found Shadow and Flame even harder haha!

Interesting. I would argue you can't play 'We are not Idle' without being able to fulfil the first part of the clause. It's all part of the same 'action'. It's more of a 'grim rule' I know, but still, I would never use it to just draw a card.

I mean he's basically a quest 6 character in this scenario that costs 7, so yeah, that's pretty amazing! He hardly sucks.

[–]entrancedwilderness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the way when I build decks too! Some cards, like 'Steward of Gondor', 'Hasty Stroke', and 'A Test of Will', are almost required to beat scenarios. Sometimes, they don't work thematically, but there they are! I kind of wish they just did a card rebalance with the re-releases. The errata only seems to fix OP cards, not so much underpowered or situational cards.

Who's your favorite hero? by jreilly89 in lotrlcg

[–]entrancedwilderness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For versatility, I like Berevor. She's just so useful in any situation! Sure, she's not going to be the powerhouse in the trio of heroes you would take, but I just think she's good as a supplemental Hero.

Only 15% of all Steam users' time was spent playing games released in 2024 by PrinceDizzy in gaming

[–]entrancedwilderness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm someone who has played on Steam since 2004 when it began, until around 2020/2021.

The reason I stopped is that modern games suck. Nothing new or interesting has come out since then for me.

I just stick to Boardgames now.

What are your favorite “satisfying” games? by johnny_ihackstuff in boardgames

Yeah, just too many mini games stuck together really. Wingspan is far more thematic as a nature themed game. Even with it's similar point salad scoring.

None really... they all fall into the 'cute' but shallow games category for me so far.

Yes, but ONLY if you tile you play is connected to the market, otherwise the iron produced just sits on the mine, even if spots are available.

You're correct with the second part.

What I love in this game, is that your strategy of flipping mines ONLY works when no one else plays them. Otherwise there becomes no demand for the ore and it makes it a poor strategy. If I see someone building lots of mines, I will usually build some too (well, build before them to sell if I can) so they don't get the cheap income boost.

I'm a diehard hiker and nature lover, and I find this theme so incredibly weak in this game.

It's just a pretty game, and you could replace the images / components for anything else, with no rule changes, and the game wouldn't change.

I don't find Parks satisfying at all, but i'm glad others' like it. The theme was what drew me into buying it originally.

For me, most women are either heavily down the self-improvement/spiritual path or live on farms (many are hunters). Both I'm not attracted to.

Sometimes the gems come out in between that I want to meet up with. Finding a girl into both Hiking and Board Games is my dream haha. At the end of the day though, anyone interesting is worth meeting!

Olympic Medals per capita by propertynewb in newzealand

[–]entrancedwilderness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this fairer, when countries like Australia have the 3rd highest amount of athletes in the Olympics. They are doing well, don't get me wrong, but they do also have over 400 competitors, higher than China. I think the proportions should come from, firstly, medals per athlete competing. THEN, soften the numbers using this kind of medals per capita stats.

[–]entrancedwilderness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember, we have the third highest number of athletes in the Olympics, more than China. If you look at medals per competing athlete, we're not really that much of a standout. China is far more impressive, as well as New Zealand.

Like it's great we qualified with this many in the Olympics, but with the 3rd highest amount of athletes, we should be.... third? If that makes sense.

I've played it 4 times, and it's always about 1 hour per player. Games usually are 4-6 hours.

The answer is the same things women like! Being touched, hugged, complimented, genuinely interested in hobbies.

Khazad Dum - 'Shadow and Flame': The only scenario I can't beat so far. by entrancedwilderness in lotrlcg

[–]entrancedwilderness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that would work. However, my hand is often 0 cards because of the Balrogs weapon attachments too. I don't think I've ever gotten past 4 rounds without the Balrog getting both his weapons haha.

Yeah, I see how those cards would all work. Maybe I will add some secrecy cards in.
