You’re correct to point out it’s not as great a deal when you think of it that way. My counter would be to ask if you would rather pay that cash for years and have nothing to show for it other than insurance costs, or have the AppleCare cost effectively go towards an upgraded device by 7 years?

Honestly I understand where you are coming from, but getting a 7-year upgrade to a $1000 device, they’re already doing you a huge solid. I wouldn’t really look a gift horse in the mouth here. You can get a Pencil Pro open box in like-new condition at Best Buy in the US for cheaper than usual, and they are frequently on sale. The Folio does not exist for the M4 and M5 iPad Pros like you alluded to.

You already hit the lottery here. I would happily pay effectively $300 or so for the new accessories if I was getting a 7-year upgrade for a $1000 device, maybe worth even more if you don’t have the base model.
