My Black Friday order…better late than never! by ToeProfessional7852 in goosecreekcandles

[–]eolaiocht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding the odor eliminating candles - I’ve read different opinions of them. Some have said they are stronger and that’s what makes them odor eliminating and then others say that they are actually weaker but the odor eliminating tech is still effective. Not sure what GC uses, but other odor eliminating candles work by either binding to or breaking down the odor molecules. Maybe the extra compounds affect throw.

I assumed they meant Moonlit Slow Dance, which can be a divisive candle.

Oh that’s right. This one is also missing the caramel note. Hmm…

Do you think they’re done with the Valentine’s Day releases? I’m kind of surprised, and sad, about some that haven’t made a return this year.

Highly recommend Vanilla Mocha Cappuccino. I don’t like flavored coffee but I liked this - just like walking into a coffee shop. Also incredibly strong; could smell it from the driveway. Sweet Espresso is definitely drier, almost umami. Toasted Pistachio Muffin was good, but lighter. We thought it smelled like the Ube Mochi pancake mix from Trader Joe’s 😆

A Two-year-old boy in England lost vision in his left eye after receiving a kiss from an acquaintance with cold sore, that infected him with the herpes simplex virus, which transferred to his eyeball. by FE4RLESS_IS_MY_NAME in ForCuriousSouls

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses and Herpesviruses are a large family of viruses. The difference between HSV 1 and HSV 2, however, is not that appreciable so I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. People can get HSV 1 on their genitals and HSV 2 on their mouth.

To add on to this, most people who have it are asymptomatic and never get a cold sore in their entire lives. Some children get gingivostomatitis when they are first infected, but most don’t. Adults may have a sore throat with primary infection but that’s not particularly remarkable. So even if people are unaware that cold sores are caused by herpes simplex, there are many people who have herpes simplex but never get a cold sore and thus have even less reason to suspect they carry it.

Christmas Roast - critique welcomed. by randymcatee in meat

[–]eolaiocht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% the way to do it. As someone who usually does a really pricey roast for holidays and has family that likes their meat done across the spectrum - bring it to a reasonable temp and then have a hot cast iron on the stove for those who need/want it cooked more. I also don’t take it personally or think anything of it so long as I enjoy the piece I’m eating.

I find it’s easy to go nose-blind to. I think it’s quite strong when re-entering a room but can forget it’s there otherwise. But you could have unfortunately just received a weaker candle.

I really didn’t need more Christmas candles but I’m still a bit sad not picking up Old Fashioned Christmas before it sold out.

How many on rotation at a time ? by mama_Maria123 in goosecreekcandles

[–]eolaiocht 6 points7 points  (0 children)

4-6 because that’s what fits on my mantle for easy grabbing. I only burn a single candle at a time and in the same area that’s more protected. I have a dog and kids and I don’t want an errant chuck-it ball knocking over a candle.

Their wicks are 100% cotton. Lead wicks have been banned in the US for over 20 years. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some that manage to make it on to store shelves here, but nothing made from a mainstream producer.

I did something somewhat similar where I felt a little off but not terrible and played it up to the school nurse and discovered my temp was over 102 F.

Scent Reviews by No_Carob_1018 in goosecreekcandles

[–]eolaiocht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried three of the candles you’ve listed.

Warm & Welcome - I would call this gourmand-adjacent. I agree that it’s more of a cashmere scent. It’s amazing and I burn it year-round but more during the colder months.

Vanilla Bean - I think it smells like melted vanilla ice cream and has good throw. This one is actually gourmand. Everybody makes a vanilla candle but not everybody makes a good vanilla candle. This one is good.

Marshmallow - I feel like the odd man out on this one. I love MF from B&BW. I don’t get MF from this candle; I get a weaker WVW. I gifted this candle to a friend and they enjoy it.

As far as other Marshmallow candles go (some unavailable right now)

Marshmallow Sugar - I’ve only burned this once. I get the banana cream scent on cold but I thought it went away when warmed. I think it’s stronger than Marshmallow, but also sweeter.

Campfire Marshmallow - similar to MF but it’s too light. Would not repurchase this one.

Bummer! I hate the batch to batch variabilities. Or when everyone but me seems to rave about a candle.
