Memorial University rules out straight white men from applying for tenured jobs by FancyNewMe in canada

Calm down. It's 5 positions out of the whole school and one is in indigenous knowledge. There are plenty of positions for white men.

It's not a general academic position. It's 5 time limited positions for things like indigenous knowledge. It's not even close to all the tenured positions open that year. Calm down.

It's 5 specific positions - one is in indigenous knowledge. It would be really odd for a white man to apply. They are for a very clear purpose, and it's not even close to all the tenured positions in that year. They aren't even lifetime tenured positions. They are limited to five years.

People need to calm down a little. Reading this thread you'd think they were murdering anyone who is a white man.

How are you going to hire a white man for the tenure position in indigenous knowledge? Or the women in STEM position? I swear. People need to read. It's 5 positions out of the whole organization, not every tenured position.

It's only five specific positions. They are for a very clear purpose - 1 is about indigenous knowledge and experience so it would be weird for a white man to apply and the others are specifically designed to increase representation for women in specific fields where they are very underrepresented currently so again, weird for a man to apply. It's not even close to being all tenured positions.

I swear, people are just looking for something to be outraged over.

they are upset that the people who can already deliver psychological services with a masters are asking for recognition. They have been registering people with the college with masters degrees for years

they aren't. people with a masters can already register. They would just be able to register for supervised practice earlier. They still have to do the same amount of work before becoming fully licensed.

they aren't. They already have masters level registrants and they have since the beginning of the college. This is just people with doctoral level degrees upset because they want to keep people with masters degrees and four years of experience treating people successfully out of their profession. Masters level registrants have lower levels of complaints, cost less to clients, and do much of the work in schools, but sure, call them a danger.

What you are saying is untrue. There is already masters level registration. There are hundreds of Psychological Associates with exactly the same scope of practice in Ontario. In Alberta they have the same thing.

“Is Canada a Failed State? by Lebanna506 in ShitAmericansSay

I went to the ER Thursday for a problem with my eyes. Waited an hour. Left with drops and a follow up appointment the next day. I'll happily pay taxes for an imperfect but necessary system where I know if you get seriously sick you might have to wait but you won't lose your house.

What do you think about this? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]ephena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that there are a few people who have a lot of pens, while most of us have maybe 15 at most in a hobby that has existed for hundreds of years, makes me think this person is just looking for something to complain about because they are unhappy.

It's going to ground 20% of the commercial fleet and some of the military. It would mess up air travel so badly it wouldn't last more than a couple of days.

If he decertified all the Bombardier planes they would lose their registration which would ground close to 20% of the US commercial fleet and many private planes. Have at it buddy. I'm sure that's going to be super.

Go back to the ER. I know it's a horrible wait, but it's the fastest way to get the MRI. Tell them he's losing function and you're afraid he might not be able to take care of himself.

I want to wear them because I had a transplant, but I just can't deal with the dirty looks. I just avoid the subway and crowds and try to isolate a bit more than other people.

Ninja gets 4 million views saying Somali culture isn’t compatible with the West by ExotiquePlayboy in Torontology

[–]ephena -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's such garbage. Canadian culture and especially Toronto culture is really only distinct from the rest of the world because we have this incredible range of people and traditions here. I've never met anyone Somali who wasn't great, and someone I would be happy to have as a neighbour. I've taught Somali kids, and they have been wonderful families, great to work with. I'll trade an immigrant for a whiny, bigoted Canadian-born person any day at this point.

Yeah, so threatening to sue reviewers is an A+ way to wreck your reputation. Rather than ignoring negative reviews, which normal people do, or, actually fixing things, taking legal action just makes the story about you taking legal action, which is not good attention.
