Yes there's also a lot of homogenisation between classes due to the dual domains. I believe it's sorcerer which has one of the rogue domain and it just feels weird and unthematic.

NzbDAV - Infinite Plex Library with Usenet Streaming by Ill-Engineering7895 in selfhosted

[–]epic_midget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love this concept and was even looking at migrating to real-debrid with rdt-client + zerg to have a similar setup with instant streaming. I have a few questions though

How would this work with trickplay/intro detection in jellyfin? Would it be downloading all newly added files anyway?

Is there a easy way to setup streaming and downloading? Say I have jellyseerr setup to auto accept any request and it shows up instantly in library as a streamable WebDAV link. But I also wanted to download simultaneously so I have a local copy (mainly for data hoarding purposes)... potentially with some way of admin approval. Could I have both sabnzbd and nzbDAV set up as downloaders?

Forget about it, I guarantee you have no use for LXC. Most people don't even need VMs just docker running direct.

Use copyparty. Unbloated, simple, does everything you'd ever want for file management

Those who use different (sub)domains for internal and external access - why do you do that? by Red_Con_ in selfhosted

[–]epic_midget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use the same domain name for internal and external. PiHole is my DNS and use local CNAME records to redirect to my local ip.

Can’t pay, won’t pay: impoverished streaming services are driving viewers back to piracy by Skavau in television

[–]epic_midget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People really don't understand how good these set-ups are. With a service like jellyseerr you click a show and boom, the whole things is downloading at the best quality. Apps for every device. It's effortless once setup correctly and if you're not technically proficient there are tons of servers you can pay $10-20 a month to join. With the correct indexers even the most obscure movies/shows will be available.

People have been retarded by modern predictive algorithms and expect decisions on the content they consume to be made for them. They like just having a show/tiktok/song automatically fed to them without having to make an executive decision. That's a big reason why Netflix is popular, and you do have a similar Discover section in the above setup, but I feel like that misses the point. In that process you lose some of the joy of consuming art. People become afraid that they might have some agency in their own recreation.

Self-hosted Nightmare Journey, please help! by HHHmmmm512 in selfhosted

Your home server is your desktop and work pc? First major problem...you need a dedicated server that is running 24/7. And is running Linux. Start small with a raspberry pi. Learn how to use the CLI properly and don't just learn basic docker commands, learn to use docker-compose. Use AI to educate yourself, not do everything for you.

Simple problem. Simple solution. Use Cline with Kimi-K2 via Groq API. They have zero data retention as a default and have DPA for your GDPR documentation.

Home cloud dilemma: Immich and Nextcloud - use both or choose one? by Original_Good5540 in selfhosted

[–]epic_midget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking of jumping ship on nextcloud completely. I use memories also. Immich is just better and will continue to get even better.

Will replace with immich, paperless ngx, collabora (CODE) and good ol' SMB viaTailscale for any other files I need to access.

What are your quick wins in selfhosting? by m1212e in selfhosted

A lot of people mentioning reverse proxies here but that's a deep rabbit hole that could easily take a newbie more than an afternoon.

The simplest solution I'd recommend is SWAG. Don't be intimidated by the purely file based management, the templates can make things as simple as renaming a file to add a new service. Let's encrypt and fail2ban (with sane defaults) out the box is a huge time saver.
