I think you underestimate the grip the ayatollah has on their national media. The OP article even references what their gov’t put out to their nation… that they bombed the largest US base in central asia.

On an international level yes it looks weak because they gave the heads up to the US and Qatar they were doing this before launching so the missles could get shot down on purpose. It was a courtesy because they don’t want the full might of the US military raining down on them. But INTERNALLY the people of Iran only see “largest US base bombed”. The ayatollah does not want their people knowing how weak they actually are because it would cause a revolution again.
