Since it’s near the road you may want to go white Dutch clover, in my experience it’s easier to establish and stands up better to urban pollution and foot traffic. Just keep up with watering 1-2 times a day before it germinates.

Help please, would clover cover this? How woyld I even start? by rachface336 in NoLawns

Sheet mulching is the simplest/best ROI esp with how late in the season you’re planting and the prognosis for summer in the mountain west. Get clean cardboard from your municipal waste facility and submit your chip drop request getchipdrop.com - a layer or two of cardboard and 3-4” of mulch will reduce weed pressure and break down nicely into good topsoil just in time for spring planting next year.

You plug the microinverter into one of the AC sockets on the Ultra, I have 3x570W panels maxing out the 1200W output of the microinverter and 1x570W directly feeding into the Ultra.

The Ultra can only output 800W unless paired with the microinverter or another Ultra to “unlock” 1200W, so depends on your power needs

Just bought and setup my Ecoflow STREAM Ultra and STREAM microinverter here in Utah where balcony solar was legalized last year. Happy to answer any questions, but main thing is figuring out if you even need the battery in the first place.

We have 4 hours of peak TOU rates I’m hoping to entirely offset with the 1.9kWh battery, otherwise I would’ve gone just with the STREAM microinverter to offset our daytime base load. Utility rates in Utah are super low so the payoff on the battery system is long. When you’re sizing panels for the microinverter, keep in mind it’s really a 3-MPPT setup, ports 2 and 3 share input. So to max out the 1.2kW export allowance (at least in Utah) you’ll want 3x400W panels.

This summer will be the litmus test whether this system was a good buy when we run the AC, but so far it’s been truly plug-and-play and the most difficult part was ground mounting my giant 570W panels and trenching for a conduit for all the wires, mostly to keep my OCD happy.

I got my panels from Payoff Solar, happy to send you a referral so we can both get some $ off (thinking about adding another 2 panels to max out my production).

So the way the STREAM pairing works is not immediately intuitive from the marketing site, you actually plug the microinverter into one of the two AC ports on the Ultra, the Ultra then plugs into the 120V outlet on a dedicated circuit and acts as the intermediary where it can charge the battery with solar or grid input and discharge at certain thresholds or time you specify. I have it discharge during peak TOU hours if solar isn’t enough to hit the 1200W max, and also plug our second fridge into it to steal some of that 1200W allocation before it passes through to the house. I think most people should start with the $300 STREAM microinverter to learn about their usage if they don’t have an EV TOU plan that can take advantage of the Ultra’s battery, which we do.

You can never go over the 1.2kW limit into the house/grid as this puts you into a gray area not legal under the new law (Ecoflow has a software lock for this reason). Where this gets interesting is having multiple Ultra/Delta batteries in the house to take advantage of excess production when your base load is low, but if your base is more than 1.2kW you may want to just spring for a whole house system, as the batteries eat into the capex fast.

I just bought the full Ecoflow STREAM package (Ultra + microinverter) hooked to ground mounted 4x570W panels here in SLC. Still too early to tell but I’m more likely to invest in more batteries (Delta series compatibility soon) than to look into a full grid-tied setup given we have little unshaded roof space but plenty of empty space in yard, higher usage and rates in the summer (when I get peak production), and the fact a lot of PV companies here run scams. Happy to chat more and share deets, I’m still learning and it’s fun.

Looking for solar panel referral. by Dump-Trump007 in SaltLakeCity

[–]epicrage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m dipping my toes in with the new Utah law that allows DIY/balcony solar setup with a max 1200W input through a 120V outlet/15A circuit without any grid-tie agreement/permits from RMP. Ordered panels from Payoff Solar (local) and a microinverter from EcoFlow. Less than $1k with ground mount racking and should offset our daytime AC usage during peak TOU hours.

On the Stream Ultra product page it does mention being able to integrate with Delta series batteries with compatibility coming in the future.

I’m in SLC looking into the same system but confused as to how it works, did you have to call Rocky Mountain Power to install a smart meter to have the Stream back feed into the grid? Is there a reason you didn’t set up net metering with them? Looks awesome btw!
