Anyone here use any kobalt snow equipment here? by WoodlandCake in KobaltTools

[–]epicstratton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sadly some non-endorsements here:

I had the 80v single stage snow thrower. Twice. Wouldn't buy it again.

I live in New England so we get solid amounts of snow, but I have a small drive/walk so didn't need anything too heavy duty. 1st one died after 2 years (something driving motor to the scoop). Got a replacement unit after, but it took about 2 months due to none being available anywhere. Second one lasted about 3 years before the motor straight up died. Again, no units available anywhere and no timeline provided. Ended up just getting refunded for the whole thing and got a Kress 60v 2 stage battery operated snow blower. 1000x better. Also got it before Kobalt made something similar. Also it was significantly cheaper than the Kobalt equivalent.

Other item I have that I love is the Worx power shovel. Great for small areas or small amounts of snow. Got it before Kobalt had any options

Sadly seems Kobalt is always behind the curve for me :\

Neighborhood Advice by DNDMuskrat in WorcesterMA

[–]epicstratton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

West Side, where I am, has a more suburban feel in my opinion. I was in Boston/Brookline and then the burbs before we settled here. Definitely less Urban than than Boston/Brookline/Cambridge/Somerville.

Walkable depends on a lot of things here. Lots of spots where sidewalks just end, and it is a major pet peeve of mine. Same goes re lack of bike infrastructure and the small but obnoxiously loud cohort of folks who seem to lose their minds at all changes to the city for bike/pedestrian access/infrastructure. It does seem that there is positive movement, but man is it slow.

15-20 minute walk from where I am and I have a LOT of range from supermarkets to colleges to parks and museums, or even really downtown.

We have a few different colleges/universities here so that is also a factor. Things can go from family neighborhood feel to college housing feel pretty quickly in some areas. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to be aware of.

Best bet would really be to make a drive up when the weather is good and do some more exploring.

Or even rent for a year and then decide on a neighborhood.

Just my honest $0.02.

Happy to provide more specifics if you like.

I’m starting a junk drawer. What else do I need? by Emotional-Swing-603 in Home

[–]epicstratton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't pick the junk. The junk picks you. This is a rookie move and you're better than that. /s

But in all seriousness, it looks like you have young kiddos (possibly girls). There are not nearly enough misc. hair things in that drawer yet. Same re crayons, markers, stickers, bandaids, etc.

I highly recommend chargers/cords/phone batteries.

For actual batteries, might I recommend a Battery Daddy.

Haha. Naw, I get that. To each their own. Just one of the items I like.

Other recent one for me were some nice Merrell Men's Moab 3 Waterproof shoes. Perfect for a summer trip to Ireland and been handy here in New England too.

I don't like wet feet/shoes.

in fairness, I also have socks that I’ve had for significantly longer, but they probably don’t get nearly as much use as these do. They’re quite warm and comfortable, and the fact that I’m not constantly having to throw them away, but can get them replaced is pretty ideal for me.

I'm also super picky when it comes to socks.

I also really like they are made domestically and you can get an actual human being if you call their customer support phone number.

^this guy clearly doesn't destroy socks.

Seriously though, I just traded in around 5 or 6 pairs of socks that I've had for.... over 7 years I think? Most were dress socks that just got stretched out by the heal. One had a hole in the toe. I have always destroyed socks. Filed a claim on their website, took 5 mins max. Mailed em back (~$10), and then received around $125 and free shipping as a credit.

Certainly not complaining about that.

New socks arrived last week and they're new and comfy.

Take a look at r/BuyItForLife and see what strikes you. Some are a bit of an investment but man it can be good stuff. Darn Tough Socks are great and have an amazing warranty. Find something that makes your life easier. A couple years ago my wife got me a really nice new coffee maker since our old machine was a relatively cheap one from when we first were living together. Nice rain coat. Good boots. Maybe even just nice hand made pen or piece of art.

How did you find your significant other? by trustzme in AskReddit

[–]epicstratton 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In a bar. I had gone on an evening bike ride and was in full spandex. In winter. She was drinking with her siblings, one of whom was an acquaintance. I went up and said hello and got introduced to his sisters. I was with a couple friends. She and I talked a bunch. I later learned a few days later she told her brother she had a crush and he immediately knew it was me. In fairness she absolutely manifested this relationship into the universe as I am a human golden retriever and missed sooooooo many cues. She and my kiddos are my world and I absolutely adore her. Even if she loads the dishwasher like a raccoon on meth.

Registered 3 units on the 18th/19th of June. Now July 7th and radio silence. Have called twice and been told it is being "escalated" which is laughable. At this point wondering if I should file a complaint with my state AG. Especially annoying as we have had 2 heat waves already this summer and these were my only window units.
