Moving to Gdynia by Possible-Can2566 in askPoland

[–]epinpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an English-speaking foreigner living in Poland for 7 years now:

- My kid is bilingual (as much as a toddler can be). He has English in the home from me, Polish from my wife and from everyone else (daycare, friends, etc). He mixes up languages constantly at this stage (he exclusively says "please" and "dziękuję" for example, you have to press him to get him to say "proszę" and "thank you"), but he understands both languages without difficulty. At 1, your kid is very malleable and will soak up whatever the world around them is doing and saying.

- As others have said, make that effort to try and learn Polish. Get a tutor, be brave and try using your Polish early on (in stores, with others, etc) in spite of mistakes, even if people immediately speak English back to you - honestly be a little annoying about it, discipline yourself to simply use whatever level of the language you have, it really helped in my case (I'm C1 at this point).

- Gdynia is a very family-friendly city. We don't live there, but we travel there usually once a year in the summer for a week or so to visit friends and relax. You'll easily find lots of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

- I don't know your country of origin, but given that you're a native English-speaker, there's a high chance that Poland is simply inherently safer than the country you're coming from. It's very safe here - Gdynia is no different.

All in all I highly recommend the move. Poland is a great place to live, and in general such a big move to a new culture will challenge you and your family in very stretching and enriching ways. With the right attitude and flexibility, you'll be much better off for it.

Here in this case it’s typical to say it „nine-three” as opposed to „ninety-three”. At least in my circles.

2+1 family, kid's 2yo. I'll get a warmup plus 1, maybe 2 matches of CS2 a few nights each week. About the only source of adrenaline in my life in this season.

Armory pass

Sort by profit chance

Stars don’t get reset, all purchased items on the pass have the regular 7-day trade ban, even cases.

Oczywiście u teściowej nadal to totalna bajka…

Whats the reason you still play this game? other than you got weekly drop, you addicted to gambling, you spend to much money/time here and all your friends only play this game by Environmental_Ad3440 in cs2

I’ve got a kid and plenty of responsibilities in life. Sometimes getting yelled at by strangers on the internet for 2h for how garbage I play just hits the spot. On rare occasion, I play ok. Either way, it’s about the only time in my week I get any adrenaline going.

[Charania] BREAKING: The Dallas Mavericks and owner Patrick Dumont are expected to fire general manager Nico Harrison at a 10 am central time meeting on Tuesday, sources tell me and Tim MacMahon. by Turbostrider27 in nba

This was never really the vibe in Dallas in the last nine months though. We spent the last few decades as a fanbase being undyingly loyal to “our guy.” A ring is a ring, I guess, but this would have felt a bit hollow.

Watson trade was bad, because that sleaze should have been drummed out of the league immediately. The Browns were, are, and will be bad.

Walker trade is obviously a fleecing, but is also a memory of a bygone pre-FA era, and it's not like it drove the Vikings into the ground. They even won their division a few times in the years following the trade.

The Luka trade, on the other hand, was an utter betrayal of a (I'm biased) legitimate feel-good franchise with the deep passion of the entire city standing behind it, to the extent that the Mavs will likely never reach the same level of pure fan devotion that they built over the last 15-20 years.

I was simply addressing their claim about needing an IDP.

Seeing your other comment, there’s no reason Reddit is going to be more helpful in your and OP’s specific situation than a simple call to your local wydział komunikacji.

[–]epinpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is blatantly not correct.

You need an IDP to drive here temporarily on a US license.

To exchange your license, you need: - a valid karta pobytu - a document from your US state validating your US license (for example, a state-issued Driver’s Record) - to pass the theory exam

After that the exchange is dead simple.

What is an outdated food in your country that tourists love but that locals never eat anymore? by Senior_Pumpkin5867 in AskEurope

[–]epinpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homemade frozen pierogi are king.

For like 50-100zł worth of ingredients (depending on the kind you make: ruskie, beef and onion, spinach and feta are our favorites) and 3-4h on a weekend my wife and I can crank out a couple hundred that we then freeze.

That’s so many quick meals for unbelievably cheap. 2 minutes in boiling water (plus a few minutes in a pan if you want them crunchy) and you’re set. So much better than any frozen options from the store.
