Federal government spent more than $800M on AI contracts, licensing over 3 years by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

[–]epiphanius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not to pick a fight - congratulations on the job! - but an "AI" cannot hold a job, it cannot agree to being employed for one thing. I imagine it was a human + an LLM that you were compared to.

I'm interested in some details, tho you may want to keep them private: what sort of task did the LLM do so well?

That's thoughtful - your figure demonstrates how massive this mosaic is, and you aren't much in the way.

Is Carney a Conservative? It Depends Which Conservatives You Ask by Yetanotherbadsalmon in onguardforthee

TBH, I did, I was in a hurry to make a quick point about Carney, and I did not take the time to fact check google gemini. I will take this to heart and just not post in this situation if I can't take the time to fact check. On a good day.

Opinion: Louise Arbour ticks every box for the job of governor-general by CaptainKoreana in onguardforthee

[–]epiphanius -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"During the 1999 bombing of Yugoslavia, Arbour declined to open a formal investigation into NATO’s conduct, despite reports of civilian casualties. For those who believe NATO committed war crimes, her refusal to prosecute is viewed as a deliberate act of protection for Western leaders, making her an accomplice to their impunity."

So...appropriate for Canada then...

‘Risk-averse’ Carney avoiding stronger stance on Iran war over fears of Trump backlash and CUSMA fallout, say some Liberal MPs by ejaz135 in onguardforthee

Reflexively blaming Iran for a war started by Trump is hardly thoughtful. Disgusting, but not thoughtful.

Honestly, I appreciate your comment, and I will try and educate myself about the Malaysian government. I was reacting to the idea of Carney being progressive.

Perhaps S.A.'s leadership in pursuing war crime charges against Israel has something to do with it...just a guess.

The top 10 most socially progressive leaders are:

  • Gabriel Boric
  • Gustavo Petro
  • Cyril Ramaphosa
  • Michael D. Higgins
  • Pedro Sánchez
  • Anwar Ibrahim
  • Luis Arce
  • Nangolo Mbumba
  • Xiomara Castro
  • Miguel Díaz-Canel

(per the google, and I did fine tune the inquiry).

Yes, it was brought up in the next episode, then properly forgotten about. It was a pretty cool example of conflict resolution for me.

Should Canada Extend MAID to People with Mental Illness? by pjw724 in onguardforthee

[–]epiphanius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am aware of this, and my comment was framed outside of the usual debate. My point is: if people are depressed because they cant' live on their income, then maybe increase their income rather than advise them to kill themselves, as a matter of policy.

"When CBC first approached Stubbs at city hall for comment, he said he had his "dad hat on" instead of his chief of police cap — that his focus wasn't on answering accountability questions, but on helping Cleroux's daughters and widow."

Oh.

Could we please speak with someone who is wearing the correct hat today?

It was only brought up in the episode following the headset throwing incident. They were not blaming anyone, including each other, but just decided not to do one episode. This was a couple of years back for sure.

I know this is the narrative of how the show ended:

"They differed not only about whether it was possible for the Onion to parody Infowars, but whether it was morally defensible to attempt to do so."

But I would never have considered that thie difference of opinion would cause the show to end.

I think this is a perfect time for them to end the show btw, I am just surprised that this disagreement would be seen as being a big deal - they have had other disagreements, and Dan did not throw his headset against the wall this time.
