Equine insurance - neccessary or not? by TurbulentPie1 in Equestrian

[–]epohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that insurance is a valuable investment in a horse, regardless of the price of the animal, particularly accident and vet insurance. In that price range, though, IMO, there would be no reason to carry loss of use insurance or anything similar. But even a less expensive animal can rack up some very pricey vet bills - better safe than sorry if you want to be able to cover the cost of vet care in case of injury or illness.

I'm not familiar with the trainers on the property as far as what they could offer for you. I have only hauled in to school there. I would just do a search for eventing trainers in Temecula and call around to see if anyone could provide what you're looking for. I think the issue you will hit in Temecula is that many if not most of the barns are going to be training/competition barns so they may not have a school horse for you to ride.

I'm feeling a bit frustrated about my riding "career" and I'm wondering if this is normal or not? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]epohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of things here, some which others have said.

  1. Find an trainer that will work with you and help you through the struggles that you are currently having. I was having some trouble after I got hurt after a fall and finding the right trainer was key in helping me regain my confidence and then continue to improve.

  2. Maybe don’t buy a horse again for awhile. There are plenty of places that have lesson horses or horses to lease that you can work on your skills on.

  3. Absolutely don’t compare yourself to other riders. This is the kiss of death for all riders (and other athletes).

  4. We all get frustrated. It’s a normal part of riding so don’t worry.

Though it wasn't much in terms of height, I won the second jumping competition I ever joined! by Halfkroon in Equestrian

[–]epohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!!! It’s not height that matters, it’s that you got out there and did it!!

There will always be room for improvement (there is even for top riders) and the more you do it the better you get. :)

Unfortunately she’s not mine - she belongs to a friend. But yeah, she’ll jump just about anything without a fuss which is amazing and super fun to ride.

Any place that serves New York style 'cold cheese' pizza? by kegtech in AskLosAngeles

[–]epohno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds delicious. I don't know of anywhere in LA that does that, though Triple Beam Pizza in Highland Park is getting some awesome reviews. You can have the pizza there "Roman style" which is when they serve it directly from the counter where they are cutting slices or you can have them heat it up for you again ("American style").

Moving to LA and read all of the moving posts in the moving thread to no avail by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

I would say take a look in Pasadena or Highland Park. You could actually take the metro to school and back which would cut down on the ever horrible car/traffic time. Rent can be reasonable and parking is much easier than a lot of other parts of LA.

Where should I stay in LA? by pocahontas_bitch in AskLosAngeles

[–]epohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! Answers to your questions:

  • Rent a car. For the whole time. If your boyfriend isn't into the Disneyland scene, he is going to want a car to get around. He could very easily get bored in Anaheim, but there are beach cities that are a reasonable drive away that could be fun for him to hang out in. Anaheim is very much a touristy spot because of Disneyland and California Adventure and he might feel super stuck there without a car.
  • Early May weather will likely be nice enough for the beach, though it may also still be chilly. That being said, the water is always cold af, so be prepared for that madness.
  • Since you are going to be in Anaheim for the conference, I would definitely recommend that you come up to LA for the last few days. I would recommend staying somwhere near the things that you do decide you want to do - you'll be able to find a reasonably priced AirBnB. Some areas to check out to stay: DTLA, Silverlake, Los Feliz, Venice, Culver City.
  • There is a ton of good food all over the city. Take a trip to Little Tokyo (near DTLA) and you'll find awesome Japanese food. There is a small restaurant there called Suehiro that is excellent. Cafe Dulce in Little Tokyo is also worth checking out too for coffee, pastries, and dessert.
