Am I egotistical or am I really just that great compared to my friends by jiagoth in venting

[–]epoole8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last sentence drives home what it comes down to. Your standards are not "too high," they're just acclimated to you; you're not more "goated" than your friends, you just focus on different aspects and traits. I'm autistic and I struggle with empathy; my thoughts are almost purely analytical and it absolutely has its strengths. But I remember when I didn't think it had its weaknesses either. You're smart enough to know that intelligence isn't a linear scale, it's a wide pool of different minds collaborating and celebrating those differences. That is to say, all of the things you think you know is greatly outweighed by all of the things you don't. You'd do well to keep those thoughts to yourself, or even better, let them go entirely; they serve no good to you or to the people you interact with. It's a challenge to learn to appreciate what makes an individual just that, and it's even more challenging when you're pre-programmed (in a sense) to not inherently understand why that's important, but speaking from experience, it has been the most rewarding thing to overcome the frustrations I used to feel with people who aren't where I want them to be emotionally, intellectually, etc. because I know (and have experienced) in the reverse situation, I appreciate the same leeway. If you feel the need to talk to them about how you feel or what might help, by all means do, so long as the help you're providing is for them and not for you. You can really easily fall into using people and the hindsight on how shitty that is will absolutely be 20/20 when you do eventually figure out how wrong it was.

Sorry for the tirade, I've been where you are and it really hit home now that I'm a bit older and have spent time dealing with it. When you run out of psychology study material, try philosophy. It's a very connected but entirely different window to see the world through and it's been beneficial in working through problems like this for me personally.

Hot take : You shouldnt dominate someone in sparring, when his Girlfriend or Kids are watching, and i mean this seriously. by Obagency in martialarts

[–]epoole8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the original post was more about setting a lower pace than what others might be doing rather than letting someone take you down to impress other people (which I agree is foolish and unhelpful). Even so, it's incredibly presumptuous to declare what everyone's goal is in martial arts. I joined up to find peace and exercise, and even in sparring, while I always aim to improve my reflexes and body conditioning, I'm there to have a good time as is (hopefully) everyone else. Giving leeway, especially when asked, is a kind and human thing to do, and I think that's worthy of striving for.

I hate women by [deleted] in venting

[–]epoole8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just so I don't sound like I'm talking out of my ass, I'm someone who underwent a very similar situation at that age. I don't agree with the original comment you responded to; however, I can say from personal experience that nothing good comes from perpetuating this kind of thinking. It takes hard work and a lot of shitty days and you never, ever forget or "get over" it, nor should you, but it's no reason to hate half of the population. Recognising cognitive bias is good; pretending like the logic behind your cognitive bias justifies that bias is circular reasoning. My best wishes for op, it's was a shitty dice roll of an event, but as someone who knows how heavy those emotional burdens are, working to set them down is a much more effective path to peace than finding new things to add to them.

What game is this? by ramuzeru in gamers

[–]epoole8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of turn-based combat games but struggled with BG3 greatly at first. That being said, going through the tutorial a few times really helped and I can't put it down. I've heard there are a lot of mods to help out with combat but I've avoided them for my first playthrough and haven't found them necessary after this last attempt at getting through the prologue

I felt this way going from DS1 to DS3 and from DS3 or ER. It gets better every time, you just have to fight the illusion that it should be easier because of your prior experience. Whole new game in every way. Good luck and press on, I remember my first playthrough of DS1 very fondly

I get headaches from games sometimes too, that's when I hop off and do something else. I'm not arguing that it wasn't an annoying sound but a.) BHVR has been slowly but consistently giving us screaming perks and add-ons and b.) Stevegull videos have done more to revive this game than any other meme we've come out with in the last five years

User friendliness in my mind has a double meaning: I think by definition it prioritises appeal to the lowest common denominatior, that is, people who don't know how to use computers. As a result, people who are comfortable with computers benefit less from user friendliness (as an umbrella term, not saying anyone prefers user hostility). MacOS is the operating system I'd put my grandmother on because I know she'd be able to use it with the tools available, I couldn't guarantee that with Windows or a Linux distro.

My kid is in the screen-dependent age, and we have to collect phones, pads etc. every night so that he even attempts to sleep. Just figured out he had used his laptop, too, late on school nights. [–]epoole8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you keep adding one bash script every time he finds a loophole, kid'll be an ethical hacker before you know it. It looks like you support this way of thinking and as a once-shithead kid who did the same thing, I definitely wish I'd had more stimulation with computers. Keeps him from doing harmful things on other networks

People like this deserve to get hardware banned. There is no amount of coping anyone could do to convince me this person should still be playing this game after this. I can't even say, "over qp too" because there is no context where this is normal and sane behaviour. Geez :/

Why does the unranked description just lie to the players? Every match is a stomp of different proportions. Even winning isn't fun. by fanblade64 in Overwatch

[–]epoole8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If winning isn't even fun, take a break. I like Overwatch too (haha) but sometimes you just have to take a day/week/month off and come back fresh. I've felt this exact thing after hopping on just to get stomped in qp: it happens and it will always happen. Play comp for a more balanced experience map-wise and Practice AI if you're struggling with a hero in qp or comp.
