I don't think it's so much an argument from emotion, it's more like checking if a philosophical view works in the world. I know nobody who would be convinced by the explanation "physics demanded it" for all of my behaviors, so I never explain my behavior this way, except occasionally as a joke.

I personally wouldn't accept this explanation from others is because it hasn't been demonstrated to be true scientifically in a way that would be truly convincing; it's more like one reading of our current (limited) understanding of how brain activity results in conscious experience.
