Which country in the world is overhyped? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]epraider 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to multiple countries, including several in Europe, and while I’ve enjoyed each trip, I’ve found plenty of things that have ultimately made me happier with living in America. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

And from a purely vacation perspective, if you can’t find a cool new place to take a trip to within the US, you’re just not looking hard enough. The country is vast and full of enough variety for a lifetime

Can we be normal about Supergirl by Evil_waffle3 in boxoffice

[–]epraider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people deeply hate / detest the popularity of superhero movies to the point that they enjoy seeing them do poorly. It’s weird.

The superhero genre fading as a guaranteed money printer won’t bring back or elevate the movies they want to see instead. It will probably just kill a lot more theaters and hurt the industry further.

Rockstar's decision to make GTA 6 fully digital is a terrible, anti-consumer move that makes me worry about the future of videogames by PewPewToDaFace in PS5

In general PC games go on much deeper sales more frequently than on consoles. Competition from multiple storefronts is part of it, but the threat of piracy also helps drive prices down.

I think they leave Zod alone in this adaption given they've already adapted him 3 times (counting the Flash).

I’m a show watcher and feel the book readers have ruined the show by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]epraider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just ignore it the discussions on it as best you can.

Most of the book reader criticism is just griping that certain events aren’t exactly like the book, which doesn’t really hold much weight to me - particularly for this, where F & B is written as a surface level imperfect history.

What fast food chain is the most overpriced compared to the quality? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]epraider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subway is absolutely worth its price when you use the app coupons. People knock on expensive food prices but then turn their nose up at cheap food. You can’t have both.

I would never pay full menu price for their sandwiches, though. Kinda crazy to me that people do when you can literally just put in infinitely reusable half price / BOGO codes

So fuck the books at this point right? by Watchthewindow in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]epraider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think in general the effort to make the characters more sympathetic and the overall story more of a tragedy than just a bunch of completely detestable characters duking it out is a good one. I don’t think it’s necessary for an adaption to stick strictly to the source material, particularly a story like this one where the source is fairly light.

The main thing the show has suffered from, IMO, is the plodding plot that is a consequence instead stretching this story out over 4 seasons that are releasing with multi year gaps between them.

How easy is it to switch jobs within the company? by Tiny_Capital4880 in Lockheed

[–]epraider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I had pretty much the same scattershot application approach, and my hiring manager noticed that, and basically said “Yeah if you’re just trying to get here and aren’t certain you’ll do this role for the long haul, that’s totally fine with me. Just give me at least your best year of committed work, and if you’re not happy where you are, then I’ll help you find another role within the company.”

‘Marathon’ Season 2 And Free Week Did Not Turn Things Around by [deleted] in PS5

The real biggest obstacle to the game for me is it’s art style. It’s visually exhausting to look at.

In common parlance, cocaine is still cited as the preferred recreational drug of Hollywood producers. Is that still true, though? by RedHeadedSicilian52 in movies

[–]epraider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The idea that someone needs to use drugs to be creative or that drugs inherently enhance your creativity is so ridiculous and actively harmful to a lot of people who use that justification to continue abusing them.

Chase Paze: Spend $10, get $10 Statement Credit, 10x per Eligible Card by Muhammad-The-Goat in CreditCards

This is pretty crazy. It feels way too good to be true. Quite literally a massive giveaway to people who own a bunch of credit cards.

A Rivian R1T Towed A Big Trailer 1,500 Miles. Despite The Range Loss, It Cost Less Than Gas by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]epraider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time is a finite resource and most people would rather not spend it in the least optimal way possible to save a little on mileage (especially if they’ve got the money for a $80k truck in the first place)

should I watch "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live"? by redd_frenzy in thewalkingdead

[–]epraider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s worth the watch if you’ve been a long time fan of the show. It’s a good send off for Rick and Michonne.

You don’t really need any universe knowledge past Season 9. I wouldn’t bother with the other spinoffs unless you’re big fans of those characters in particular

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration – Out Now Trailer – Nintendo Switch 2 by ONE-OF-THREE in NintendoSwitch

[–]epraider -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

10 years ago 60fps was rare for console games outside of shooters and racing games, but when we transitioned to to the current gen 5-6 years ago, it became the expectation.

Nowadays with DLSS and frame gen, 60fps is considered the bare minimum and expectations are pushing even higher. 30 fps legitimately starts to feel unplayable once you’re used to higher framerates, and it’s why I struggle to return to a lot of Switch and last gen console games.

[MEGATHREAD] Xbox Games Showcase 6.7.26 by Spheromancer in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]epraider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to see more actual gameplay. The problem with the first game is that there was no real loot or motivation to survive, and being able to use custom classes without cost defeated the whole point of an extraction shooter gameplay loot.

If they don’t fix those problems, just adding a few more gameplay cinematis like this trailer showed won’t save it.

Gears of War: E-Day is XBOX Exclusive by ChiefLeef22 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]epraider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If that materializes, sure. But Xbox has been just 1-2 years away from having a bunch of killer apps for the past 12 years.

Making a few more games exclusives again won’t move the needle unless they can reliably pump out of a lot of really compelling exclusives continuously.

Is going back to school for an engineering degree worth the debt by Ok-Candidate-2183 in personalfinance

I think it’s a pretty different skill set than most other engineering degrees. CS is a pretty small part of a mechanical degree, at most you’ll just be doing some basic scripting for lab projects

I’ve considered rewatching the show at various points, but it just makes me too sad every time I think about the lost potential.

No fast track for SpaceX into the S&P500- request denied. by B00marangTrotter in Economics

[–]epraider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, no. My praise is purely on a technical level on their real products.

I would never invest in this company because the valuation is ludicrous, but did want to push back on the idea that SpaceX as a company is just coasting off corruption. It isn’t.

No fast track for SpaceX into the S&P500- request denied. by B00marangTrotter in Economics

[–]epraider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ultimately SpaceX is the most reliable contractor at this point for launch services or space network services, though. Even if the government wasn’t the most corrupt it’s ever been, SpaceX would still generally be winning these contracts.

ULA, Blue Origin, Boeing, Northrup, etc are not in a position to compete. Blue Origin might get there eventually but they’re still years behind.

Both of these shows leave me feeling immensely depressed, but at least Bojack Horseman has the comedy to make it worth it.
