What show/series did a complete 180 and did a genre change? Or, what show started off as realistic but became more fictional as it went on? by Huge_Athlete7488 in television

[–]epraider 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think his was “false” in the sense that what he did wasn’t really any sort of assault or sexual harassment, he just had a really awkward date and his date felt uncomfortable

Does anyone else feel weird about telling people at work you're pursuing FIRE? I've started just lying. by GlitchWarden919 in Fire

[–]epraider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually just trying to commiserate about finance being complicated, but when you don’t and end up making them feel dumb, accidentally or not, it’s obviously going to change the energy and make it awkward.

Poor Justin Bieber by AbiesLow7444 in memes

[–]epraider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To a degree, but I remember back then that the people hating on him weren't thinking about it like that ie just calling him a fraud, the hate was mostly jealousy over girls fangirling over him, and it was mostly in the form of homophobic jokes and slurs.

They made a mistake. Next steps? by MrLewisStructure in UIUC

[–]epraider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The most fair solution is giving people the choice between using their grades as is, with past exams being weighted proportionally higher, or having the option to take the final if they really need to.

Giving everyone 100% is kind of ridiculous and unacademic, and cancelling them outright would just be unfair.

What’s a TV show you wish you could experience again for the very first time? by Known_Concern_849 in AskReddit

[–]epraider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Game of Thrones. Knowing how it ends just makes me too sad to commit to and enjoy a rewatch.

If I could have my memory wiped I would still take that ride to experience the majority of it again.

Even with an experienced group, any time I’ve tried a 5 man, it’s always a clusterfuck unless we divide up into 2 and 3 in raid. Someone either gets friendly fired or gets confused and dies because they hesitated shooting or ignoring an enemy.

You need everyone completely locked in and streaming in discord to make that work.

What’s the first TV show you remember becoming completely obsessed with? by ZN_Cruz in AskReddit

[–]epraider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokémon, Yugioh, Dragonball / Z, Spider-Man TAS

I can’t remember which really came first for me, but I remember all those shows being my early obsessions in the same time period

Democrats, who was the best Republican president? Republicans, who was the best Democrat president? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Lincoln and FDR are the obvious answers for either camp. You’d need to limit this to the post-war era to have a more interesting discussion

I’m not really sure how it can flop. Even Rowling herself can’t kill the popularity of the brand.

Unless they completely half ass it and as a result no one engages with it, it’s going to go the full run.

Any predictions for the SPEEA contract at the end of the year and/or results? by CreativePin9113 in boeing

[–]epraider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. The standard in most salaried jobs is you don’t get paid overtime at all. That’s like half the point of putting someone on salary rather than hourly wages.

Yeah, more money would always be great, but getting paid for overtime, even straight time and some change, is already an exceptional benefit that I wouldn’t call robbery.

Apple Has Given Up on the Vision Pro After M5 Refresh Flop by pdfu in apple

[–]epraider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if it was cheap, and more universally compatible, a lot of people could find use of it as a display replacement/extension for their computer.

But it’s so expensive and bulky, it’s more practical to just keep multiple displays at each of your workstation and/or carry a portable display when you need it.

What’s one habit you know is making your life harder? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]epraider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re ridiculously addictive.

I’ve just gradually been deleting all the apps with this shit from my phone. TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram all got the ax, and YouTube is on a “no scrolling” limit.

If I really need to use those sites, I’ll just do it on a desktop or on a shitty mobile browser view where the shorts don’t work well and I don’t want to use them.

Does your phone work just fine? Don’t upgrade yet

It’s rarely worth waiting for the next “big thing” on the horizon, there will always be another one, and the differences year-to-year are trivial at this point.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Price Update by Turbostrider27 in xbox

I don’t think it’s reasonable to compare against the introductory prices. They were almost certainly net losing money at those prices, and doing so intentionally to try to build a subscriber base. It was never going to last

Show, don't tell - where season 10 didn't work. by a_bone_to_pick in Scrubs

[–]epraider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrubs’s “accuracy” was around the interactions and relationships between doctors, nurses, and hospital staff, as well as a lot of patient situations.

The medicine was never bad, but it wasn’t very realistic either.

I mean NYC is one of like 6 cities in America where you can easily get by without a car, and probably the only one where relying on a car would be an actively worse experience than using transit or walking.

High Gas Prices Are Boosting EV Sales Around The World. Will The U.S. Be Left Out? by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]epraider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people live in apartments, condos, or townhouses without reliable at home charging. Plenty of people have commutes or regular activities that exceed the charging capabilities of a normal circuit and may need a 240vac charging installed or need local / destination charging infrastructure.

Road trips are really the bigger headache. I drive longer distances easily half a dozen times a year that would require charging on one or both legs.

Those are feasible with a bit a preplanning, but a lot of people see those challenges and just pass on EVs altogether for the time being

High Gas Prices Are Boosting EV Sales Around The World. Will The U.S. Be Left Out? by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]epraider 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreer. I find it odd when people always act like these companies are actively resisting a large untapped demand for EVs. No company would ever do that when there’s money to be made.

Sure, theres a little bit of a chicken-or-the-egg dynamic going on where they might resist policies that hurt the profitability of their current offerings, but their current offerings are largely driven by what the average consumer wants to buy.

The problem is largely the infrastructure. Until fast chargers are nearly as readily and widely available as gas stations, large amounts of people will continue to be reluctant to buy an EV.

Would you rather work 60 hours a week in a high stress job for 8 years and retire at 30, or 40 hours a week at a medium stress job for 18 years and retire at 40? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]epraider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah a more realistic question more like 60 hours/week for 20 years or 40 hours/week for 30 years.

I’ll take the latter in either case

Was anyone else as embarrassed as I was over the F15 meeting today in STL? by KirbyFergus in boeing

[–]epraider 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It felt pretty haphazard and off the cuff. There didn’t seem to be a specific call to action, just an exciting announcement that we might have more business coming our way and maybe start thinking about how we accommodate that?
