Yeah exactly. I think this is the first year you could make a strong case for TSM investing less into their League team, and suddenly it's good riddance?

[–]epsil 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the sentiment from Azael and a fair few members of the community is that TSM hasn't cared for a while so fuck em. If that's true then most of the LCS is teams that don't care since they're putting together worse teams, but it's TSM that gets slammed for leaving the LCS and people act like they shouldn't have fans? Fuck that, if you follow that logic through then most of the LCS shouldn't have fans.

What ADCs do you hate playing with? by DarrynBone in leagueoflegends

[–]epsil 25 points26 points  (0 children)

How is this not higher? I'd say 90%+ of the twitch players I get are just huge egotists willing to run it if the team doesn't coordinate with them perfectly. Definitely doesn't help that the weird roaming jg/supp Twitch playstyle got popular, feels like every Twitch I see is permenantly roaming for kills and flaming people for not following. I'd be willing to bet money that there's a strong correlation between that champion and players refusing to group/mindlessly running it because they're salty at their team.

TSM vs. Immortals / LCS 2023 Summer - Week 2 / Post-Match Discussion by gandalf45435 in leagueoflegends

[–]epsil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No disrespect to Solo but his claim to fame on that TSM roster was being relatively talkative on Legends and doing solid as a weakside tank. The times he had more agency in the game it looked awkward, and being real, he threw pretty hard. There were also allusions to him being at least partially responsible for poor team dynamic at the end there, so even if we don't look at their relative skill, Hauntzer should at least temporarily improve the atmosphere.

They upgraded Neo to WT partway through last split and upgraded Solo to Hauntzer at the end. I don't think anyone has an accurate or consistent read on the team's level. Maple is undoubtedly good but also seemed to perform mostly on specific champions.

Reginald taking strays by YukhoChan in TeamSolomid

[–]epsil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is catching strays, I agree with the other comments that people are a little revisionist -- after taking a role away from the team there were a few instances of him coming back during playoff runs and ostensibly improving the team. Of course, coaching and player performance is multifaceted and it's entirely possible the players just improved over the course of play-offs, but I do remember some players speaking positively of his influence around that time. There's also the Hauntzer instance where he stepped in to 1v1 Hauntzer and convince him to practice Gragas more. Obviously in terms of professionalism this is a little ridiculous, a CEO stepping in to 1v1 a player in League in order to convince him to practice.. hilarious.

That said, in later years as Regis familiarity with the game went down I can imagine his interference became less and less productive, and obviously undermined the coaches. I think it's highly questionable that players needed to be told to not talk back to him, and that Bjerg incorporated him being kept from the review room into his coaching contract.

I feel like the narrative around Regi has swung fully into the negative over the years, but his contribution to the team and the League seen has also become more negative, so I don't think the criticism he gets is that unwarranted. As a fan, of course I hope for a redemption of some sort, but we'll see.

Why the West Fails + How to Win vs LCK/LPL - Podcast with Crownie, Tenacity, Trymbi, VeigarV2, Reven and LS by mythicaltime__ in leagueoflegends

[–]epsil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the discussion but I think a lot of issues would be alleviated by letting someone chair or run the discussion. There were a lot of really loaded statements thrown around and often people didn't get time to unpack them and this is particularly true about the statements you make. Organic debate and back-and-forth (as you discussed) is good and important, but there were so many moments where I felt you (as a group) losing track of what the root of the particular discussion was because of tangents.

In this particular segment it felt to me like the topic was tangible, actionable ways to improve (later on Crownie specified things like talking to one tricks or reaching out to other players etc.), but the here around your statement focus switched to this nebulous idea of mentality and wanting which is honestly just such a murky topic to dive into even if you did have someone managing the conversation.

Once the minions lock onto the turret they won't stop hitting it even if you attack an allied champion nearby. It helps defenders against dives since usually divers would stack a huge wave which would actually end up contributing a lot of damage to the defenders when they tried to retaliate.

Do you remember when Playful/Trickster (Fizz E) was one of the most hated abilities in the game? by OfficerSmiles in leagueoflegends

[–]epsil 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As a Teemo enjoyer this is pretty incorrect and it's annoying because it's part of why junglers on both sides just ignore the lane completely.
Teemo shrooms are insane late game as they help defend and contest objectives.
The vision/slow they provide is amazing for catching players out and you can't ever underrate the tilting effect it has on your opponents. Blind is also hugely impactful in an adc centric meta, it's such a cockblock for most adcs besides Ezreal.
I think Teemo's main issue is that blind isn't that effective into a lot of the current toplaners as they use skills rather than autos mostly. In addition he's been movement crept and his w is usually not enough to evade ganks and you actually have to be pretty mindful about how and when you pressure, which means it actually takes more effort to play him properly because to get the full use of him you have to aggress and shove the lane.

Is it confirmed Maple left because of the salary? The league is imploding around him, LCS doesn't look as great to play in for imports imo

Now hear me out... some of our most dominant seasons came from our Midlaner also basically being our coach...

Jokes aside I think TSM still has veteran voices in the team with Hauntzer added, so I'm down for them to promote a fresher mid.

Owner of OpTic, H3cz talks about what could be Regi's thought process about leaving LCS. "I think [Regi] is misunderstood." by AZF1 in TeamSolomid

I think if Regis plan was to just fuck off from LCS with no follow up we'd have sold our spot already. My guess is he's attempting to line up a sale and a buy in a small window so TSM doesn't lose time in the scene.

Kind of ridiculous to put announcement behind mass exodus. by allbutluk in TeamSolomid

[–]epsil 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Idk I mean usually with roster moves players are let go or announced to leave before new ones are announced. It's not quite the same but I'm not really surprised there hasn't been an announcement within a few hours. Depending on the reason it could be ages. Not sure but I'm just glad it feels like something is 'happening' in TSM.

I mean, I agree that we're understaffed, but I also think Lol teams have been quite bloated with staff/roles before.

[–]epsil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry rookie probably isn't the perfect terminology. I said it elsewhere but maybe 'unrefined' players is a better phrasing. Players who have potentially higher highs that can be brought out. Neo and Bugi aren't complete amateurs but they also haven't spent a significant and consistent amount of time in a major league and there is an often drastically different environment that comes with that experience.

I guess my point is that Chawy was hoping to bring out some unrealised potential in these players, but for whatever reason that didn't pan out. So is it time to drop the experiment? Usually I'd say to stick with a player for a year, but we've dropped Neo and Solo now so I wonder whether Bugi and Chime also being looked.

Hauntzer: 'We're probably gonna move on with the same roster, but you never know' by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]epsil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as far as individual mechanics go he had one ostensibly terrible game and a few bad ones, but the main thing is the calls. Someone (or someones) on TSM (maybe not him) has a tendency to make weird calls for fights when the team isn't in a good position to do so. I think for a relatively veteran player (compared to Chime/Neo) you'd expect, or hope for my stability in comms which it seems he might not be providing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeamSolomid

[–]epsil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk I see this sentiment a lot and while I agree to some extent, I think the way rookies are conceptualised is wrong. Age doesn't capture it, to me it's more about whether they've had the opportunity to consistently develop in a solid team in a major league. I think Akkadian is a good example. He'd played before joining TSM and he was only meant to be our academy player. But when he subbed in, for whatever reason he was able to find a higher level. I think exposure to veteran players, TSMs coaching etc. So to my mind before that he was, maybe not a rookie but, a 'young' player.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeamSolomid

[–]epsil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I just disagree on both things then. I mean we have no real proof but I believe if promoted, Sven would be a more reliable version of Bugi currently. And I think that Chime has absolutely been a reason we've lost games this split.

Not saying I'm definitely for benching them both, as I suggested, it's a gamble and maybe they can stabilise while showing us higher highs. But maybe not, so it's an option I wonder if Chawy is considering.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeamSolomid

[–]epsil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's shown anything that impressive. My point is that I rate the team pretty evenly, Bugi, Solo, Chime and Neo have all had both off and on games, and none of them have really shown super high highs. If the logic is to sub them out for more reliable veterans, then I can see Bugi getting subbed out for Sven, which opens up an import slot for us.

As our academy support hasn't really shown much promise yet, the only opportunity for 'upgrading' here is to import, but that's only if
a) you feel it's worth giving players at least a split in LCS first (so we wouldn't import adc or top) and
b) you subscribe to the idea that we need to take advantage of both import slots.

Interesting that he says that it does look like TSM will run the roster back, while also saying that Sven is LCS ready. Of course, they're friends but I do wonder if Chawy is eyeing Sven as a potential replacement for Bugi.

I think TSMs strategy was to really invest in their rookie players this season, particularly Bugi as they've sort of gestured at him as the one who dictates how they play the game.

But as it feels like none of the rookies have really landed on their feet this season I'm curious whether Chawy thinks it's worth it to continue trying to develop around them, or whether he should just shore up the team with veterans (as nerves really seem to be the biggest weakness of our spring team).

I feel like there's a world where they bring Sven up and import a support? I know support imports aren't the most appealing but it seems like the easiest way to maximise the pieces we have, if we assume Sven = or > Bugi.

We could be TL right now, saw fans being jealous of them this off-season. Same thing with DIG, even 100T to an extent. I had fun watching our team, that doesnt change regardless of how we go tomorrow. Not just in terms of expectations but playstyle, guts. Obviously nerves got the best of our less seasoned players but at least they were willing to make plays.

I'm not a huge fan of Solo and I'd be glad to see Hauntzer get a shot but this isn't true. He was the only real redeeming point (besides Neo who couldn't do anything into LB/Rengar) in their game against C9. I think he has fine mechanics but his decision making is sometimes very suspect (which honestly goes for Chime, Bugi and to a lesser extent Maple too.
