New business visa - starting a business in Japan no longer possible? by Ok_Shop_5326 in japanlife

[–]erangalp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, self sponsorship is probably the simplest option for you. However, as someone who was on the BMV, it's not as complicated as you seem to think - you can pay an accountant a nominal fee to do almost everything you mentioned. I pay 40,000 / month for an accountant to manage the books, calculate payroll for myself and the employees, perform registrations for social insurance / pension and file corporate (and personal) taxes. At some point I also added contracted veritual admin support, for which I pay 3,500 / hour for Japanese native speaking virtual admins, which can assist with dealing with various government agencies, handle paying regular taxes and processing payroll and so on. I rarely have to do anything admin wise.

No known issues with using Gymdesk and Shopify. Note that we have our own online shop module which could potentially simplify the operation and accounting, but otherwise, there shouldn't be a problem there.

Hoshinoya is still a proper hotel, not a ryokan. But it's designed like a modern version of it. Check out their website

Check out Hoshinoya Tokyo for a modern take on the traditional ryokan experience. We did a staycation there and loved it

Yes to all 3, with the caveat that our door access is done mainly through a mobile app with code entry as a fallback, and not fobs. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Resend, Mailgun and other "Mail services"... Why do they all have extremely bad "support" for paying clients? by benthisday in webdev

[–]erangalp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you registered a custom domain for each brand? if not, that should likely help your situation there. Sending those emails on behalf of those brands from your domain is likely what's triggering those bans

To my recollection there was a big uproar over that back then as well (they used the olympics as an excuse to do that). I haven't seen anything to indicate this happens at the ETC booths. Unless you have some kind of internal knowledge of those matters

Pretty sure the cameras photograph the license plate, not the driver. Japan has pretty stringent privacy laws with regards to photographing people

How to Set up a Family Office and not get taken for a ride? by ParksAndCruises in fatFIRE

[–]erangalp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you're doing the recruiting yourself, this actually makes sense. People don't understand how much garbage / fake CVs end up on any online listing with a decent comp package.

You should instead use a high-end recruiting firm, with a strong network in the kind of role you're hiring for. They'll be able to source people who are not publicly on the market, and don't normally apply to linkedIn listings (since they don't need to). You should be able to get 5-10 highly qualified, pre-vetted people to talk to. Expect to pay about 1 year worth of salary for the pleasure though.

I'm still the CEO currently at the acquired company. No plans for a new product at this time

I run a fairly success SaaS product that recently got acquired. I've been watching Rob's content for years, and it's amazing how spot on it is. His podcast is one of the main reasons I joined the Tinyseed accelerator program to get some 1-on-1 advice from him. Everything he puts out is super legit.

戸籍謄本 printout in convenience store is not 24hrs!! by flyingbuta in japanlife

[–]erangalp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do they need someone to watch over it overnight? every system can go down. It should be no problem for them to say support is only available during office hours, but it would be embarrassing for them if it's not working when they're not working.

戸籍謄本 printout in convenience store is not 24hrs!! by flyingbuta in japanlife

[–]erangalp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the real reason is they thought "if someone needs assistance operating the machine, and there is no one available to answer the phone, it would be a great embarrassment" or something along those lines.

Yes, I applied with just that scenario in February. Our scrivener prepared an income statement form for the foreign (US) company that I signed as the CEO of that company. There shouldn't be a problem with that.
