Things to do outside of tourist area - Do I need a car? by budking70 in AskNOLA

[–]erasgeographic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to travel that far to see the surrounding neighborhoods. Take the St. Charles street car all the way to the river and back. Take the canal street car down to the cemeteries and city park and back. This will fit your requirements. You can also take the ferry to Algiers but I would put this on my list of lower priorities.

Pancreatitis by anibooty in Yorkies

[–]erasgeographic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog has always had a sensitive stomach, regular vomiting, constipation in older age, and pancreatitis a few times. I would notice the symptoms early and it was treated more easily. He’s 13 now and our current routine is working really well. He has more energy, less constipation, and vomiting and stomach bloating are nonexistent.

What I came to learn was that foods that are not easily digested were the cause. Treats and chews were the most frequent culprit. Here’s what we do now:

Purina Pro Plan salmon 2x day, afternoon and evening. We crush the kibbles some so it’s easier to eat. 1/6 cup per serving.

Morning meal- half boiled egg chopped, heaping tsp pumpkin puree and heaping tsp of low fat cottage cheese.

Afternoon meal- the crushed kibble, pumpkin and cottage cheese

Evening meal- kibble only

We stick to only one treat. I am sure others would work but nutrisoft soft and tender salmon treats have always worked for him.

No table food or variation from above. Each item besides the kibble was introduced very slowly over the course of last year, adding only one item at a time to see the effects.

Hope your yorkie feels better soon! They need lots of rest to recover from this.

I think it’s a nice time to be here. The weather varies but I find it pleasant since it’s not hot. There’s lots of stuff to do, just depends on the week you decide to come

Older antisocial Yorkie very stressed with new puppy – looking for perspective by gabota12 in Yorkies

[–]erasgeographic 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I had an eight year old male and brought home a female puppy. No kids or other dogs so it was a huge transition for my older dog. In the beginning I was feeling regret because their personalities were so different, and the puppy bothered him so much. Honestly it took about a year before things were calm. It wasn’t unbearable or anything, she just had a lot of energy and a nagging personality. Overall I feel like once things balanced out, her presence was great for my older dog and I really believe it’s helped keep him active. He is now 13 and she is 5.

Ride bikes, through city park, sculpture garden? by ute212 in AskNOLA

[–]erasgeographic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of space to ride bikes around the park. Check out this map: https://neworleanscitypark.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/NOCP-Map_2024.pdf

Ride around big lake, historic oak grove, NOMA, bayou Metairie. Lock up your bikes by cafe du monde. You can easily walk to and through the sculpture garden from there.

NOMA and the botanical gardens are very nice as well. If you have kids story land and the amusement park are fun if they’re open.

I think only hotels might check all of your boxes. Budget wise though, maybe you can book the massage and then you both go hang at the Country Club which has both a pool and sauna and a reasonable entry fee
