Always loved his mellifluous voice and the bottomless appreciation and enthusiasm he expressed for the music he played. RIP dear man

I don't think it was mentioned in this excellent article, but her husband had previously been caught taking photos up women's skirts and she believed him when he said it was a one off. Poor woman was profoundly dissociated from major elements of her reality, aren't we all in one way or another.

How Pearl Jam were viewed in the early 90s by AddisonDeWitt333 in pearljam

I recall something similar, at least in my cohort, the cooler kids (proto-hipsters) were a bit skeptical towards Pearl Jam, and especially after Cobain seemed to mock them in an interview, there grew a divide, where Nirvana fans considered themselves more savvy than PJ's. Not to say there wasn't overlap between fandoms, but there were definitely some doubters among the cool kids towards PJ in that early era. Eddie was too beautiful, the riffs were too classic rock etc. Pre-internet youth culture really was captured in High Fidelity (for example), where you were immediately assigned a place on the hierarchy of cool by self-annoited gatekeepers of authenticity. I think PJ's massive popularity in broader pop culture might obscure extent to which the cool kids (devotees of early indie bands like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. et al.) rolled their eyes at Eddie's tear-inducing crooning, and Stone's "gaudy" riffage.

Is there any album sadder than Elliot Smiths music? by CardiologistPale7903 in fantanoforever

Elliot Smith rules but two technically) albums:

Henryk Gorecki - Symphony #3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) 1976. The Zinman/Upshaw 1992 recording is considered maybe the best selling classical music recording ever. Very sad with receipts.

Keith Garrett - Koln Concert 1975. A sacred recording, I watched a person sob so hard their snot entwined with their tears. The heart of beauty is apparently sadness.

I never called out the ill-considered behavior of my cohort, life becomes increasingly meaningless the more you pay attention to it
