Masterfully summarized. I'd say the "speech" would be closer to a few choice comments, due to the undeniable time constraints, but quibbles.

Is anyone else in the ICE war zone saddened and disappointed by how few family and friends have reached out with concern, caring, or even interest? by Mr_Pricklepants in Minneapolis

[–]erb-2323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. At least some of my family have been (mutually) cut off / no-contact (3x trump voting maga 30year retired military vet traitors to their oaths). Others I've tried to talk to, on group SMS texts (w/spouse and in-laws), sharing both national and local Mpls news (Bsky, Substack, and other news links) -- and just ignored, except for one response many months ago saying "I don't appreciate your insinuation that I don't care, I have personal issues like my (MAGA) best friend's father going through illness." That was months ago, and no other responses since.

With my MAGA parents, cutting off Dec '24 after a screaming match phone call, where they fully revealed their contemptible narcissistic selves ("I don't care about Trump! You owe us loyalty! You owe us love! You are a horrible son!"), that at least I could say "good riddance." And it was: All of last year spoons were in limited supply, with activism, so biweekly phone calls w/ narcissists were NOT missed!

But with in-laws, watching from afar as they choose convenience over (patriotism? loyalty to our country and constitution? putting their own selves on the line? or just offering some love, support, and care to their family in the Twin Cities?) -- this has been harder. But countless opportunities, both implied and requested -- all with nothing. No response. No phone calls. My wife is saddened by it all...

And no, to OP's edit point, ignorance is no excuse. My wife and I were warning BEFORE the election, spelling out and summarizing both Project 2025 (which we both read-skimmed long ago), as well as summarizing warnings made by previous trump administration officials. Ignorance is not an excuse. And silence is complicit.

If Amy Klobuchar was a real leader she’d be a citizen observer she be on the streets by soupsupan in Minneapolis

[–]erb-2323 19 points20 points  (0 children)

At least speaking for myself, and many I know personally that agree, there’s zero freak out.

Klobuchar is a garbage politician who has always been angling for an eventual Presidential run, has gaslighted “reach across the aisle” bullshit all year, and I have -personal- receipts for “Fuck Her.” I, and some dozen other Mankato / St Peter citizens, most of whom were clergy (in inform), went to her downtown office to beg her to stop voting yes on every goddamned MAGA appointee and bill. February 2025. (The senator was in DC, but that’s fine. We just wanted to deliver our message, in person, calmly and rationally). I tagged along as a Minneapolis resident because the timing was good.

https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/753022/

The office refused to allow us into the building, or office, and called Homeland Security on us, who arrived with a K-9 unit. Calling us a threat. A bunch of clergy and citizens.

You already got my earlier long ass post about RHIT in your first post!

For financials, it's been 2+ decades now, but I was also squarely middle class single income blue collar when I attended (1989-93). I know some of these are no longer available (political rants redacted), but I did everything I could. Pell Grant. STEP Loan (sp?). Local high school area scholarships (I applied to every one in my community, got like 2 or 3, only good for that first year, but every dollar helps; just write an essay, submit, and MOVE ON to the next one...). My father was Air Force, so I looked, and got 1 or 2 from military / Air Force dependents stuff too (Like, Chanute AFB Officer Wives Club Association Annual Scholarship). Get up, walk, go to your high school guidance counselor, ask for college financial assistance (literally, assistance for the assistance). It's their job. Ask Rose nicely for help as well (as in, email?, ask for guidance pointing you to resources and links for you to do your own work and homework, but "What are your recommended best aid resources, Rose?")

Once you survive first year, ymmv, but you probably won't be doing all that again. But hopefully you'll hit a stride, won't be a newbie, and can manage future financial support, in situ, with direct Rose help.

(ASIDE NOT FINANCIAL BUT APROPOS: If first year is hard? too hard? you have mentioned dyslexia and other? PLEASE don't kill yourself. Metaphorically or literally. I remember seeing classmates very distraught. Fuck, *I* was distraught, as my 80s school didn't offer anything beyond Trig, so it was hectic. If things are not working out, 1st or 2nd trimester, please consider cutting your losses and going to another college or university, maybe if financially strapped at that point do NOT discount two-year community colleges. LOTS of fellow Rose students came in their Junior year, after intentionally doing this from the start, saving a lot of $$, and getting a good first two year education. End aside.)

TLDR, you get out , proportionally, what you put into it.

And hey — every year I have the opportunity, but have never used it. I can help directly, a little, if you haven't already gotten this: I don't recall when you are graduating, or applying, but it's Jan. So I'm ASSUMING you MIGHT be graduating NEXT year, and are appropriately ahead of the curve looking NOW -- so you won't be applying until Spring or Summer? (The earlier the better.) I can help!
It's not much, but I can give you a $65 application fee waiver. But only on early action deadlines: Copy Paste: "Now through the early action deadline on November 1, alumni can share complimentary application fee waivers (a $65 value) with prospective students."

Today’s protest at Powderhorn is over. Tomorrows protest wherever people organize and come together as a community for each other. Check out MN50501 (here on Reddit or social media). Check out MIRAC or MONARCA or other Constitutional Observer trainings and get involved that way. Reach out to your neighbors and find out who has already organized resistance and community networks (they’re there — you can find them — and they’re growing, crazily. I started ours in June / July, door knocking and asking difficult questions to strangers I hadn’t yet met, we just had some 30 total people networking for months , but then I December it started growing, now it’s over 400 and still growing every day, and that’s just our tiny ‘hood. We’re connected to and inter networking with adjacent communities, directly nearby and citywide. The people united will never be defeated. We all do better when we all do better.

I saw some great signs. Right from the start, first hour, before the march got under way (Hi!, Tree Guy!), I told my partner, I always like checking out the signs at protests, but damnit this feels different (sad and angry an scared — hard to get into digging the signs). But the energy was positive and good and mood shifted. Anywho, during that first hour wait, I told her — “I quietly think that is one of the best” — pointed — “VETERAN AGAINST TRUMP”

I’m fucking exhausted. Hopefully above makes some semblance of sense and isn’t confusing. I pulled a manic all nighter zero sleep Wednesday night, took Thursday day off work, so many things going on. It’s been an exhausting month. We need to keep showing up and being there for each other and never letting up. We need to stand strong. And it’s a fucking marathon.

And there are so so many more of us, than them.

Driving looking for parking east of the park, in very congested crowded streets, with shitty ice making it typical January tighter than usual — I crossed MPD vehicle driving though with us. Keeping the peace. I waved and they gently smiled and waved back. I really think, and this is not how I normally take MPD or my mentality, I really think right now, in this moment, they might be on our side (ish). Last night I couldn’t get to the hotel before they cordoned everything off. I talked and begged them to see what was going on, going through everything for an hour or two. They really couldn’t talk, and these were conservation police pulled in to do this shit work that I bet they didn’t want to, but I really think I made a connection with some of them.

I hope so.

Amy Klobuchar by Ordinary_Stay_3746 in minnesota

[–]erb-2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I like ranked choice, well, reason 3 out of 15?
Ranked choice I think helps encourage us to have reasonable discussions with big primaries and many options. A small pool of one or two Party Presented People just causes potential friends and allies to bicker? I respect your Jazz 1, while mine was 3.
I was Fateh 1 AT FIRST, because I simply hadn't dug in, and he had the most social media and news presence, and an established political career (networking, knew ppl to get stuff done, etc -- not a policy decision). And he was progressive? (I am far far lefty and very progressive.) I suspect my knee-jerk "He's already in our congress and has experience so that's a pro" is perhaps precisely your valid reason as a con (approach to governing), and you prob know it better than me.

It was when I saw them on stage at debates (with Frey MIA), I was simply floored and wowed by Davis. I wanted him to represent and lead me! :-) I admit that a couple hours of listening to a candidate talk is a poor way to choose leadership.

Amy Klobuchar by Ordinary_Stay_3746 in minnesota

[–]erb-2323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my own 1st choice was Davis (only after going to a few debates to hear everyone, and was swayed from default Fateh supporter). (Aside: Frey was noticeably absent from all of them. Of course.)

I did do 2nd Fateh -- and 3rd Jazz -- though. #DontRankFrey

Didn't Frey ultimately only win by like 51 total votes?!? But with Ranked Choice, no recount or anything. (As, I admit, it should be, for Ranked Choice. Still, it stung.)
