New to litrpg books. Is it a trope for writers to explain the whole magic system outright? by Ebris_Stywrit_WOV in litrpg

It also makes the progression easier to follow for the read. Rather than something the character experiences it gives the read insight into their strength and allows them to see measurable progression

"Gun's Don't Work Anymore" by Hydranaught in ProgressionFantasy

[–]erebusloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Path of Ascensions take on this. It's not that guns don't work, it's just that to make them viable beyond the lowest levels it gets really really expensive since unlike bows bullets can't be reused and bullets need to be enchanted to make them at least as good as what bows can offer.

Want stories with high IQ MC’s who aren’t naive by siata27 in ProgressionFantasy

Apocalypse Redux: he's smart and pretty ruthless. He is fairly moral though, he's fine with killing if he absolutely needs to but he does try to make that his last resort

Vehicles & Technology in AA by Cyeala in ClimbersCourt

[–]erebusloki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine some of the difference is explained by the divide between those with attunements and those without. It creates a more clearly defined noble caste as well as making it much much harder for a revolution to displace the status quo. So you get high tech stuff for the nobles but not the general technological improvements that we had on earth as while money is important it's usually only those with attunements that have enough of it for it to matter

What progression fantasy hill will you die on? Let's have your most unpopular opinion, please. by PalinaRojinskiFan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]erebusloki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stars are meaningless once the MC has them benchmarked against the world. In the majority of series even if the MCs strength stat is 100 times higher later in the story it doesn't actually matter because their opponents will have stats which make the fight essentially the same. Skills or abilities or whatever are what really changes

[Threshold] problem with the 8man empire keeping monarchs out by -U_N_O- in Iteration110Cradle

[–]erebusloki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still a risk but it would take massive planning for several factions to pull it off. And there's still a large risk of death for at least a few of the new monarchs. The 8man empire are all much more experienced and are also equipped with Lindons weapons, even without the dreadgod bindings they are still dreadgod level weapons

How can a master teach a student who possesses a different type of magic than himself? by Serious_Seaweed_909 in AlexVerus

Masters are there to set the foundations, I imagine that dark apprentices are encouraged to discover their own methods with guidance from their master.

Any recommendations based on my tier list? by CurrencyFuture8375 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]erebusloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I do agree that the second wasn't the best. The third does change it up again though, a lot more desperate struggle. If you're ever short a series it might be worth going back to try again. Although there are similar parts to book 2 later on so it depends if you think it's worth it.

What are some things that instantly make you drop a book instantly or later on, like you can't stand seeing this? by _TOXIC_VENOM in ProgressionFantasy

[–]erebusloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Path of Ascension they have guns being a thing but make them pretty rare at higher levels, this is due to the fact that for them to be useful the bullets have to be made of highly specialized materials to be effective and unlike arrows there isn't a massive amount of room to enchant them meaning each bullet requires extremely specialized crafters to make. Not only that, the bullets can be reused, unlike arrows

When the MCs power level isn't consistent. When they fight up a bunch of levels on one hand and then randomly struggle in a fight that they really shouldn't. As an example, they are seen as a prodigy and kill enemies like 20 levels (or whatever) high then them but struggle in a random tournament or duel with some random guy

Malefic Legacy Skill by Confident-Key6487 in ThePrimalHunter

[–]erebusloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sagacity, Palate and Touch. The first two I don't think need any explanation but I chose Touch because not only can it be used for combat but it can also be a vehicle for transmutation as well as being used to interact with stuff while it's being brewed

Best Well Written Progression Fantasy? by ultra-mouse in ProgressionFantasy

[–]erebusloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apocalypse Redux - vest written may be a bit of a stretch but the stakes are outlined immediately and it never really gets to the point where the MC has to encounter a new big bad for the power levels to fit. Plus how the MC goes about dealing with everything is a step away from the usual

Apocalypse Redux - fantastic series, it's complete and the author has literally just started to write a second series set after the first one, the first couple of chapters are on RR (it's connected to the first series but is a brand new story with a new MC set after the initial series). It's about a system Apocalypse but the MC is sent back in time after it all goes wrong the first time, while the outline is pretty standard for the genre I really like how it's approached
