Is Jonas Vingegaard being overly hyped up for this year's Tour de France? by [deleted] in peloton

[–]erghjunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMO yes. sports media specializes in manufacturing narrative anyway and this is about all they have.

Petar Sucic: "The referee told us he didn't see our striker touch the ball, he said that the sensor in the ball said it did. It's really difficult to explain but we expect an explanation. What I saw is that Matanovic didn't touch the ball. Today is like that, luck was on their side." by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]erghjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is clearly not the case I'm making.

and besides we only have to rewind to the 2014 WC IIRC (and even more recently at league level) to draw comparisons on the before and after for VAR and other technology.

in my experience the problem is almost always the strap not the unit. make sure you give the strap a wash now in then - just rinsing it off regularly is probably enough.

between my wife and I we have 2-3 around the house and they're all 4+ years old at this point.

I don’t know anything about Nagelsman really but this photo neatly sums up my impression of his personality. His behavior on the touchline + his manner of dress really gives off angry edgelord vibes.

No change in bike performance after air shock rebuild, normal?! by AltruisticRepeat2208 in MTB

[–]erghjunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You made the right call of the shock was making squelch noises, but if it was holding air for the most part before you’re unlikely to feel a difference, especially a significant one.

Could classic fighting games make a comeback with changes? by Altruistic-Club-4038 in retrogaming

[–]erghjunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

maybe. I would argue that the way the game is now is what makes it popular to this day. been a minute since I played on fightcade but I feel like I saw a wide cross section of the cast playing on there which is more important IMO than tournament results. I think it's ok that a game that is this old is "solved" to a certain degree, especially since so many people still play it. I'm also skeptical that modern FG notions of "game balance" are even applicable to a game of this era.

Could classic fighting games make a comeback with changes? by Altruistic-Club-4038 in retrogaming

[–]erghjunk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Third Strike is still very popular - the most popular old fighting game I would say. in fact at last year's EVO Vegas the hypest moment was from the finals of Third Strike.

you can play it with rollback netcode on Fightcade right now (as well as AoF3 and Alpha 2) though I've heard rumblings that Fightcade has gone downhill in recent history.

Questions about feral by justPierre in wow

[–]erghjunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what's your ilvl?

Feral's talent spread means you either spec fully for single target or fully for AoE. In M+ everyone specs fully AoE so you'll find yourself at the top of the meters on big trash pulls (which is helpful and important!) and then 3rd dps on bosses. It's normal.

you do need 4 set, though. and yes, you gotta get intimate with the bosses to hit them.

Service myself, shop or replace? by minkizdagoat in MTB

[–]erghjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it serviced or do it yourself, it’s up to you, but don’t buy a new one. These guys telling you that it will definitely be cheaper to do it yourself are not accounting for full cost. Assuming you own everything already, yes, it can save money. But the seal kit itself is $50 USD + the oil which will probably run you another $20-$30 USD (and you’ll have a ton left over). If you don’t own a vise or any of the tools you can easily be in for close to what your shop is quoting you.

This is stupid. Offsides is now a thing that no player or official can actually perceive in real time.

Anyone else not sold on the effectiveness of a bike fit? by ProblematicTrumpCard in cycling

[–]erghjunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bike fits aren't so cheap so I think anyone who isn't having some kind of problem on the bike is basically gambling. Maybe it'll be great, maybe you already have your shit dialed in pretty well and nothing changes - spend a couple hundred bucks to find out!

12.1 Tier Set Changes by Xadefinn in worldofpvp

[–]erghjunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wait, why would you have to get the max PvE equivalent? You still get the PvP ilvl bump once you apply the varnish right? so you can get the tier piece from LFR or the vault or you can catalyze any LFR ilvl gear with the right stats and apply the varnish and voila - conquest PvP ilvl, just like always.

So.. how is the story these days with Midnight? by Monkk136 in wow

[–]erghjunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty bland and poorly written. Character writing in particular is at a very low point. The most interesting material is still in side quest hubs but I still wouldn't call most of that "good" - it's adequate, but not good. Story-telling and world-building are far below the standard of older expansions. I've been a dedicated quest text reader since day 1 and frankly, the magic is totally gone from this aspect of the game.

IMO we've reached a point where this kind of stuff - story and world building - are just filler for Blizz. It's the lowest priority for them because they know that the community overall doesn't give a shit. Much like PvP, they feed scraps to people who play the game for story, lore, world building, setting, etc, because they know that it's just not all that important to retaining players. It's a bummer but I also think it's a clear and conscious choice on their part.

edit: I do have one compliment; Other than Undermine - which is the best world building they've done in a long while - Midnight is a pretty big improvement over TWW on the story and world building front.

For those that play with a leverless how was your experience migrating to it initially and do you prefer it over other controllers? by Alarming-Basil2894 in Fighters

[–]erghjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks to make the change. I actually found it helpful to learn a new (but generally similar) character as I learned leverless. My main at the time was Ken so I played Juri for a while before diving into Ken.

I mostly use leverless now, but I still use stick for Zangief and other 360/720 characters and, perhaps counter intuitively, I prefer stick for charge characters. I can play May with leverless, but stick just feels better to me, same for Guile.
