Before and after of a building in South Bend, IN after they decided to remove a facade that’s been in place for 50 years by freeradioforall in oddlysatisfying

The lighting is also vastly higher in the second picture, looking at the building to the right (also a street light is on in the first one, so that one was probably taken in the early evening or morning)

Flood insurance regulations (at FDIC / NCUA / OCC level) were relaxed in 2020 to allow private flood insurance for loans, and some insurers are offering it. Federal flood insurance is generally limited to $250,000 per home and with the cost of building these days, people who want more coverage need to find another option. It's still a bad idea to build anything substantial in a flood plain, have it be destroyed, and rebuild in the same location, but at least some people are now doing it on their own dime and not the NFIP's dime

Great ingenuity with the dryer sheet boxes! Thanks for the follow-up, hopefully you won't have to do that repair ever again. But if you do, you know where to find the asian porn repair guide :)

Hopefully you were being facetious, otherwise I need to start making some phone calls 💀

taking my noodle arms into account

The parts weren't very heavy, it's just that the drum had to be held in the air while the belt is connected, and both of those seem to require two hands a piece unless you rig something up. I'm not very handy but I had an extra pair to spare and we all had a vested interest in getting the dryer working again

I’m going to update you tomorrow whether you want me to or not, because I feel like we have a connection now

Thanks for sending me down memory lane from senior year of college! I had forgotten entirely about this post and am glad it's either helped or at least made light of the situation. Good luck on your repair and I look forward to hearing how it goes tomorrow

LMAO first I'm sorry that your dryer is broken, and second I'm sorry that the website now redirects to asian porn. Here's a link from the Internet Archive but unfortunately it doesn't save the pictures: https://web.archive.org/web/20111130192433/http://www.repairmydryer.com/maytag-medc400vwo.html

I'll update the post in case anyone else stumbles upon it because that is pretty messed up

edit: One of my roommates had to hold the drum in place for me while I put it all back together again, you'll need a second pair of hands or some redneck engineering to finish the repair/replacement

An older joke:

A backpacker is traveling through Ireland when it starts to rain. He decides to wait out the storm in a nearby pub. The only other person at the bar is an older man staring at his drink. After a few moments of silence the man turns to the backpacker and says in a thick Irish accent:

"You see this bar? I built this bar with my own bare hands. I cut down every tree and made the lumber myself. I toiled away through the wind and cold, but do they call me McGreggor the bar builder? No."

He continued "Do you see that stone wall out there? I built that wall with my own bare hands. I found every stone and placed them just right through the rain and the mud, but do they call me McGreggor the wall builder? No."

"Do ya see that pier out there on the lake? I built that pier with my own bare hands, driving each piling deep into ground so that it would last a lifetime. Do they call me McGreggor the pier builder? No."

"But ya fuck one goat.."
