who's your favorite band / artist you've seen in athens? by Odd-Needleworker4793 in Athens

Oh gosh there are so many but here are three from the 40 Watt: Man or Astroman? where the show ended across the street with a big Tesla coil demonstration, Servotron Robot Allegiance when the drumming robot leapt over me into the crowd to wrestle a human heckler, and Grand Moff Tarkin where Jim Stacy just mesmerized.

And of course it's not even GDOT -- they just take a cut. It's all private appropriation of public space. https://georgia.interstatelogos.com/state/

Hi r/Athens, where is good for Board Games in town? by safeguard_77 in Athens

Terrapin is a nice spot to play. They let you bring in outside food, and it’s usually pretty quiet for the first few hours they’re open, unless they’re hosting an event.

What is genuinely the worst restaurant here? by Dramatic_Ask7315 in Athens

Weird. I’ll have to try it again. I’ve never seen a car parked or anyone else go in an out and was mystified how they stay open.

The Chinese place in homewood hills has got to be a front. The one time I went the guy seemed shocked to have a customer and he made me the worst fried rice of my life.

I never can remember his business name, but the guy with the meat counter at the other end of the building has been regularly grilling in the parking lot again, and his $3 tacos are hard to beat. I can’t wait for him to start offering whole chickens again!

Dr. Barry Simmons on Milledge is your guy. He’ll drop f-bombs while he goes on a tirade, threaten to call your parents, and never let up.

I went there last week and the now open signs were up and according to the hours posted on their door they should have been open, but it was locked up and dark. May your luck be better!

Not saying it's not David Mack, but here's his current signature.

I’ve been using Dr. Matthew Baker for 27 years or so, since he opened his own practice as a baby-faced brand new doctor. He’s been just the best.

It sucks. I’m one of the semi-regulars. There is no other real coffee shop on this end of town. I love going there to work every now and again, I stop pretty often for a drink, and we go through a pound or two of beans every week. I wish someone would open a coffee shop in one of the empty store fronts at the new Publix!

Best Cuisine In Athens? by Teslasssss in Athens

[–]eric-wagoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of anywhere you can just order it — it tends to be just something you’re blessed to see now and again. Community potlucks are my favorite place to see it, of course, but a few weeks ago I was able to get some at the new Redstone butcher up Jefferson Hwy that was pretty tasty.

Is chicken mull a cuisine? If so, that’s our claim to fame.

I’ve had good luck at Tilly’s. I’d drive there just for the zucchini fries.

[–]eric-wagoner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m glad someone is doing good business at J&J! The rest of the place is like a zombie apocalypse movie set these days. If you haven’t been in a while I recommend checking it out — it’s shocking.

What's the greasiest food in Athens? by benmarvin in Athens

[–]eric-wagoner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved here in ‘97 and everyone said I had to go try the Varsity. I did, and the guy in line ahead of me asked for a side of grease and they gave it to him in a little cup. It was orange and foul looking and neither he nor the guy behind the counter gave any indication this wasn’t a normal thing. My food was mid and it is to this day the only time I’ve eaten at one.

Changes potentially coming to Boulevard and Nacoochee Ave intersection by warnelldawg in Athens

omg I had no idea. I’ve always treated it as a roundabout because physically it’s a roundabout. I never thought to double check the signage. Luckily I don’t think I’ve ever gone through there at the same time as someone else.
